The Church continues to proclaim that The Lord is Risen, the Lord is
Risen indeed! Pentecost brings us to the completion, perhaps the
“fulfillment” of the Easter mystery as we rejoice in the outpouring of
God’s power made manifest in the Holy Spirit. May our observance of
Lent, Passiontide, and Easter bear fruit in God’s people unto eternal life!
On Saturday, May 26, Bishop Paprocki will ordain four men to the Sacred Order of
the Priesthood at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield at
10:30am. Every ordination is a special event for a Diocesan Church and for all of its
parishes. Not only is it the way that ministers are provided so that the needs of the
faithful are met across 28 counties of Central Illinois, not only is it possible that one
or more of these men could one day be a pastor or spiritual leader of our own parish
church, but it is a sign of the Holy Spirit moving among God’s people, entrusting them
with the very heart of the Church’s mission to preach and
baptize (‘make holy’).
Rob Johnson is the son of Doug and Patty Johnson of
Niantic, IL (near my own hometown of Decatur). His first
Mass will be at Visitation Church of Resurrection Parish in
Illiopolis at 2pm. Fr. Johnson will be the Parochial Vicar
at St. Boniface Parish in Edwardsville, as well as chaplain
at SIU-E.
Aaron Kuhn is the son of Tom and Barbara Kuhn will
celebrate his first Mass at St. Edward Church in Mendon
on Sunday, May 27 at 2pm. Fr. Kuhn will be the new pa-
rochial vicar at the Church of St. Peter in Quincy.
Dominic Rankin is the son of Mark and Stephanie Ran-
kin, and member of St. Rose parish in Quincy. His first
Mass will be at St. Rose at 10:30am on Sunday, May 27.
He will be returning to Rome for graduate studies.
Mark Tracy is the son of Jim and Jill Tracy of Quincy. His first Mass
will be at Holy Family Church in Mt. Sterling at 3pm on Sunday, May 27.
Fr. Tracy will serve as Parochial Vicar at St. Anthony’s Church in Effing-
ham.
———-
In the coming weeks we also congratulate Fr. Tom Hagstrom who
celebrates his 25th Anniversary of Ordination on May 29.
———-
May is traditionally held as a month in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Let us pray… the Magnificat My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior; he has
looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed;
the almighty has done great things for me and holy is his name. He has mercy on those
who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm and has scat-
tered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has
lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, while the rich he has sent
away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel, to remember his promise of
mercy. The promise he made to our fathers; to Abraham and his children forever.

Annual Olympic Day Highlights On May 8th, our students participated in our annual Olympic Day events. The 5th –8th grade students
traveled to Flinn Stadium to compete in track and field events with students from the Quincy, Hannibal, and
Mt. Sterling Catholic grade schools. The event began with an opening ceremony that was followed by boys
and girls dashes, relays, long jumps, tug-of-war, and distance throwing events.
Our younger grade students participated in Olympic Day events at school. The students were divided into
