St Anne’s Central School Newsletter Term 1 Week 3 2017
Week 3 sees the students settling down to their learning routines. I hope everyone
has had a chance to look at our first Parenting Ideas article. These will be sent out
fortnightly.
Community Council Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. The
Council provides advice to the school and principal on the following areas:
· Catholic Identify and Character
· Enrolment and Growth
· Financial
· Leadership
· Physical Resources
· Academic Programs
Our Council is divided into a committee structure and most members lead a
committee. The committees are:
· Fundraising
· Marketing
· Repairs and Maintenance
· Canteen
· Uniform
At this week’s meeting Mrs Marita McRae tendered her resignation from the council.
Marita has contributed much to St Anne’s in this capacity and in the previous P & F.
We owe her a debt of gratitude for her hard work and commitment to the school.
Thank you Marita. Nominations are now open for new members and the council could
have up to three new members. Please consider nominating for a position. If you are
interested, please write to me or email me on [email protected].
Thank you to our canteen volunteers both old and new. Please consider using the
QKR ordering system if you can and getting orders in before 9:00 am. The early lunch
time means a much shorter timeframe in preparing lunches.
The Annual Secondary Pool Party was held last night with a Hawaiian theme.
Students had a great time, thank you to Mrs Breust and the secondary teachers for
organising this event.
Please pencil next Wednesday at 9:30 onto your calendar. This is our Opening
School Mass. Student leaders, SRC reps and Sports Captains will be recognised, our
new liturgical banner will be unveiled and our brand new choir and band will make
their first appearance as we join together to pray for our school community in 2017.

Year 8 RE news
This term in Year 8 RE, the students have been exploring the unit ‘Prayer and Healing’.
They started the unit by looking at a scene from the movie ‘Invictus’ and discussing Nelson
Mandela’s ability to forgive and promote Reconciliation in country that was ravaged by
apartheid.
This took our discussion to the students naming what they thought ‘Forgiveness’ meant.
Some of the responses included:
Sorry
Reconciliation
Trust
Peace
Second chance
Everyone free together
Understanding sorry
The strongest weapon but the hardest to use
RE News
The students indicated in their RE surveys at the start of the unit that sometimes it can be
hard to understand bible passages that are used in Religion lessons. When Year 8 were
introduced to the bible passage from Colossians 3:12-14 which was about forgiveness.
‘As the chosen of God, then, the holy people whom God loves, you are to be clothed in heart-
felt compassion, generosity and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another,
forgive each other if one of you has a complaint against the other. The Lord has forgiven you;
now you must do the same. Overall these clothes put on love, the perfect bond.’
In order for the students to understand this passage they undertook an exercise whereby
they ‘dressed’ a student to make the connection. Below is a photo of Liam who was dressed
in the virtues of forgiveness and overall they put an overcoat which represented’ love’.
Thanks for being brave Liam!
