From the Pastor- Fr. Stan May 21,2017

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We were blessed with a beautiful day on Mother's Day, and the whole week gave us the sense of

warmth and spring and life, as it could be given to us only by a mother. By the Fatima anniversary and the

canonization of Francisco and Jacinta, the two of three children of Fatima we were reminded by the Holy

Father about our Heavenly Mother Mary, who came to visit not only the shepherds of Fatima, but all of us

who believed in God. As a mother is concerned for her children and the family, so The Blessed Mother is

concerned for the Church and the world. She is concerned about us in Brentwood, She is concerned about

every person, every child. The problem is, that not every person in Brentwood and around knows about the

Blessed Mothers love for them. How many children and youth in Brentwood don't attend the Mass on Sunday, how many have no

idea what the rosary is about.

The children of Fatima were prepared for their encounter with the Blessed Mother, first by their parents who thought them

the faith, they knew their prayers, they prayed daily. Then the apparitions of the Angel prepared them for the coming of the Mother

of Jesus. In the year 1916 the Angel appeared to Fatima children three times: in spring, during summer and in fall, teaching them

about the manner of prayer and reverence that we should have for God. Next time the Angel guardian of Portugal was asking for

constant prayers and sacrifices to God. In third apparition the Angel gave them Holy Communion after teaching them how reverent-

ly to receive it.

There is so much to be learned from those apparitions about the practice of our faith, and about the communion and

cooperation with which we participate in the life of the Church and the world. We could make much more difference in the world,

but we would have to pray more. Often our prayers are just expressions of our wishes, but without much heart given to it, not speak-

ing about the need for sacrifices and reparations to God for the offenses of our sins. What is given to the children is much practical

teaching on how to be engaged in the reality of life, how to affect life by faith, prayer and sacrifice. I think we all need to go for a les-

son with the Angel, and to the school of the Blessed Mother, so that we could become not just complainers in the church, but that

we would become collaborators of the Blessed Mother in transforming our world by action of prayer and charity.

The accounts of those apparitions show us the way we are connected to heaven, to Christ, to the Blessed Mother, to

Angels and to Saints. It is something to rediscover for ourselves, it is a treasure of great value, it is a precious pearl hidden for us to

be found. Have the Blessed Mother speak to you, have the Angel teach you to pray, be the coworker of Christ in salvation of the

world. Let's stop being complainers to God about the world, and become the transformers of the world with Christ.

Our Bishop John Barres in his pastoral letter on the 100th anniversary of Fatima apparitions is challenging us to be the in-

struments of - dramatic missionary growth - in Long Island, by answering the invitation of the Blessed Mother, to be those agents of

transformation by being her missionaries in our communities.

In today's Gospel Jesus invites us to his love by keeping his commandments, and than He promises us another Advocate,

the Spirit of truth that will bring us to the fullness of revelation. "And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love

him and reveal myself to him." Jn 14:21. Let us pursue those promises by learning about those revelations and making them our

own, than we may perceive the reality of heaven and earth meeting in the depths of our hearts. Than we may become those Angels of

truth for one another, bringing each-other to the closeness with Christ, and with the world that surrounds us.

This Saturday we had our 94 youth being confirmed by our Bishop John Barres. Let that gift of the Holy Spirit transform

the lives of our youth, may it give them the maturity of faith and the experience of the closeness of God permeating every aspect of

their life. May they harvest the fullness of faith in their lives by corresponding to the love of Christ and the Church. May the red dec-

orations of the church, remind us of the fire of the Holy Spirit poured into our hearts at Baptism and Confirmation, and let that fire

of God's love burn us from within, as we correspond to Christ love in our lives by working for the - dramatical missionary growth - in

our community. Let it help us to prepare for Pentecost.

This Thursday we will celebrate the Ascension of Christ to heaven. Let us remember to attend

Mass, as we long and search for happiness in our lives, the place to find it is in Christ alone. Let's walk with

Him every step of our lives and we will find the joy of life here on earth, and happiness that knows no end

in heaven.

God bless everyone !!!!

Have a great weekend !!!

Fr. Stan

WE ARE HERE IF YOU NEED HELP

If you or you know a neighbor who is struggling with

something and not sure where to turn, come to

St. Anne’s we are here to help you by providing

confidential support and a compassionate presence.

Many feel the need for a friendly ear, a gentle hand

and to know they are not alone when facing serious

illness, mental health concerns or caring for those who

are ill or elderly.

Please don’t hesitate to call our Parish Outreach

Ministry office at 631-273-8113 ext. 229

Thank you to all who generously donate to our food pantry. During April 2017, we were happy to assist 127 families, 28 seniors,

178 adults and 151 children. We also helped 7 new families. The generosity of the parishioners of St. Anne Parish allows us to

reach out to people in our Brentwood/Bay Shore neighborhood who struggle each day to make ends meet.

Teenagers from St. John the Baptist DHS assisted in making 50 Easter Baskets for the children of our pantry clients. There is

also a wonderful group of retirees from Islip who donate to our pantry each month. This group also donated more than 50 Easter

Baskets. All the baskets were given out before Easter and I know the children were delighted to receive them. Thank you to all!

When items are available at our outreach, we give our clients gently used clothing, towels and bedding. Any donated clothing or

bedding should be washed or dry cleaned for sanitary reasons. Our clients are very grateful for these extra items. All donations

are truly appreciated by those who cannot afford to purchase them on their own.

Here are some items we need this month: soup, rice, beans, cereal, jelly (small jars), juices, toilet paper,

tissues, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, shaving cream,

disposable razors, diapers (size 4 & 5), baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, pet food and laundry

detergent. If you have any questions, please call me

631-273-8113 ext. 229.

Thank you for caring for the poor in our parish community. Janet Lambert, Outreach Coordinator
