Situated between Braye Beach and Arch Bay, it has a perfect curve of white sand nestled in between rocky headlands. Saye is just over the dunes from the island’s only campsite. Braye Bay is a good sandcastle beach. Only a few minutes walk from the harbour and town, it is sheltered by Alderney’s famous Breakwater. Longis Bay is on the south-east coast and has a wide, half-mile sandy beach facing south. It is protected from winds by a long wall built during the German Occupation and is a favourite for sunbathers and rockpoolers. Corblets Beach, on the north coast, is the best for board surfing. At high tide the rocks cut off this bay from the adjoining Arch Bay. Arch Bay is a small sheltered beach adjoining Corblets Bay. An ideal beach for young children. Platte Saline is perfect for nature lovers and fishermen, but swimming is not permitted here because of a severe undertow. Clonque Bay is ideal for rock pooling, nature lovers and the firm footed. Please note that dogs and horses are not permitted on beaches from 1 June to 15 September with the exception of Platte Saline, Clonque and Crabby beaches. This interesting museum displays a record of Alderney’s fascinating history including exhibits of materials from the German Occupation, the islanders’ mass evacuation in 1940 and return in 1945, the building of the harbour and breakwater, an Elizabethan wreck, an early Iron Age pottery and the Gallo-Roman occupation. The designated Ramsar site extends to 1,500 hectares, some 600 hectares more than mainland Alderney and includes all the waters from the island’s west coast out to the northern gannet colony of Ortac, Burhou, the islets and reefs that surround it and includes Les Etacs. On arrival in Alderney, visit the Alderney Visitor and Wildlife

Information Centre in Victoria Street. Find out what to do and

what to see and pick up free advice, literature and leaflets about

recommended walks and tours.

With over 50 miles of walks and paths taking you across commons,

beaches, along the cliffs and around town, the best way to discover

Alderney is on foot. The south coast is mainly dramatic cliff walks,

dotted with Victorian and German fortifications and the northwest

coastline (towards the bird sanctuary island of Burhou) is designated

a RAMSAR site. Along the north and east coast can be found

golden beaches interspersed with picturesque Victorian forts and

the occasional reminder of the German occupation during WWII.

You can join one of the many interesting guided walks - ranging

from town walks, history, heritage and bird watching tours to

nocturnal bat walks -which are organised by the Alderney Wildlife

Trust in co-operation with the Alderney Society. (Dependent upon
