The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated 40 days after Easter, commemorating the forty days Jesus appeared to his disciples, reassuring them of his Resurrection and continuing to teach them his ascent to the Father is the final action of the Paschal Mystery and allows the Holy Spirit to come into the world.

Today’s First Reading is one of only two narrative accounts of the Ascension (aside from the single verse in Mark, part of today’s Gospel). The other ap-pears at the end of the Gospel according to Luke. Both were written by the same author and addressed to someone named Theophilus. In Luke’s mind, Jesus’ As-cension into heaven is further proof that he truly was raised from the dead. He also understands it to be the birthday of the Churchhence the teaching about the coming Kingdom of God.

In the Second Reading, the letter writer describes how the Church should live its calling as one Body and one Spirit, com-mitted to one Lord, on faith and one baptism. And just as a body has many parts, the Body of Christ has many dif-ferent kinds of ministers who contribute to the building up of the body.

Although today’s Gospel is most likely a somewhat later addition to the Gospel of Mark, it provides a fitting closure to the Gospel by recalling the appearances of the risen Christ and recounting his un-derstanding of the disciples’ postResurrection mission: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel!”(Taken from At Home with the Word)

Blessing of Mothers

During the season of Easter, what a great time to remember our mothers and ask for God's blessing on them. It is God who ultimately gave us life. It is through God's unselfish lovemirrored in our mothers' willingness to associate their love with God's and take the risk to love us into lifethat we have the opportuni-ty for life. We remember our mothers this Mother's Day with much love. Let us pray for each of them:

God our heavenly Father, you give to each the ability to share your generative love.Bless those women in our lives who mirror your loveand bring forth life through their will-ingnessto risk bringing new life into this world.Help us to show them our gratitudefor the gift of life and the gift of a moth-er's love.May our lifegiving God continue to bless them

and show them his unfailing love.We ask this through Jesus, God's Son and our brother.Amen.

St. Anne Memorial Brick Garden

We are excited to announce the new brick garden at St. Anne’s! This area, located outside the west windows of the church vestibule, has been established as a place to memorialize significant events such as births, deaths, weddings, baptisms, or any other significant mo-ments. There will be an order form and sample bricks available in the upcoming weeks.

A special thanks to Jamie Huerta and Pure Landscape & Brick Design for all of their efforts and support. We look forward to many years of enjoyment from the area and hope you can be a part of it as well. The Brick Committee: Erica & Paul Miner, Jamie Huerta, Marie Manion, Jim Kelty and Kim Zernec

We will be celebrating Fr. Gerry’s 50th anniversary to the priesthood on Sun-day, June 3rd after the 10:30 Mass with a reception. In lieu of gifts, Fr. Gerry has asked that you make a donation to Food for the Poor or Catholic Relief Services.

“MOTHERS”

It amazes me that I can’t remember a phone number, or often wonder what day of the week it is, BUT, I do not forget the many beautiful stories and situations that I have read about which speak of being a mother, and a mother’s love.

To share a story from Mother Teresa’s book “The Joy in Loving”, which I have shared many times before, but will repeat it again.

“Once I picked up a child and took him to our Children’s Home, gave him a bath, clean clothes, food and everything we could, after a day the child ran away. He was found by somebody else and brought back to the Home, again, he ran away. Then I said to the Sisters: Please follow the child and see where he goes, this happened after he ran away the third time. He was followed and under a tree was the mother. She had put a small earthenware vessel on two stones and was cooking something she had picked out of the dustbin. The Sisters asked the child: Why did you run away from the Home? The child said: This is my home because this is where my mother is.”

I also remember when Pope Francis said, “I have learned much from those mothers whose children are in prison, or lying in hospital beds, or in bondage to drugs, yet, come cold or heat, rain or drought, they don’t give up and they never stop fighting for what is best for them.” Further he tells us, “Where there is a mother, there is unity, there is belonging. “

Although mom’s come in all shapes and sizes, whether they are natural mothers or someone who is “like a mom” today is the day to honor all women who ren-der love, kisses, comfort, aid, under-standing and guidance.

I think of many who enter my office and in discussion, they are estranged from their families, and this just breaks my heart. This year, let us join together to pray for reunions for those who are struggling with such heavy hearts when it comes to their families. I am sure we can all “spare a prayer” for these lost, hurt souls. I know in my heart through our prayers healing for them will begin.

To those beautiful mom’s already in heaven, don’t feel the ache of not hav-ing them near, but feel their love com-ing down in the ray of a sunbeam, or a beautiful spring rain which produces the fragrance of the flowers, or in the beau-tiful sunrises, sunsets, or see her eyes in the eyes of your own beloved child. And yes, even in my adopted children eye’s I see my mom, and the love she had for them.

Peace and Blessings,Karyn

It’s that time again! We need nomina-tions for the St. Anne Pastoral council. New members will be selected using a blind drawing at the 10:30 Mass on Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018. Do you know an active, registered parish-ioner who would like to help support the St. Anne mission by working in a team environment to create priorities and planning? Prayerfully consider add-ing this person (or yourself) as a nomi-nee to the form. Further details can be found on the forms on the table outside of the entrance of the church. Thanks for your consideration.

Pad Project Great Success (see above) Thank you to the 14 women and young ladies who helped out with this project last Sat. (In spite of the beautiful weather) We completed 64 out of the 115 that were pre-pared to be sewn and the rest were taken home by these lovely ladies to finish. We have enough liners cut out to send 4 with each of the exterior pads (That’s over 400). IF ANYONE CAN SEW A ZIG ZAG, WE COULD USE SOME HELP ON THIS. They aren’t due back until end of May, as most of the groups that take them go on Mission Trips in June-August. Call Kim is you have a spare hour or two to help with those.

Children’s Village Softball We play one game per month with the youth at Children’s Village and the other youth

groups in our vicariate. The game dates are:

June 4th, July 14th and August 18th, 11:00 am-

2:00 p.m. Please sign up now for any dates you will be able to participate in. It’s a great day to show these young people we care, have some fun, play softball and volleyball and enjoy a nice lunch together. Adults needed as well for support and to help coach.
