Easter means different things to different people. To the young child it means an Easter basket and, hopefully, a great outfit to wear on a special day. To others it means a time to gather with family, eat agreat meal, and to worship. What we know for sure is that the events of Easter changed the world. In his book, “Who is this man?” John Ortberg writes, “One of the unique aspects of Christianity com-pared to other faith movements is that it actually traces its origin to one particular event in one mo-ment on one day in history. This is not true for Judaism, Buddhism, Islam or Atheism. But one daythere was no such thing as a church and then suddenly there was.” Ortberg goes on to say thatnowhere in the gospels is Jesus found to have said, “Now you don’t have to worry about death, andeverything will be OK.” Rather, the disciples realized that they had work to do, and that suddenly theirworld was a lot more dangerous than it was before. Ortberg writes, “To believe in the resurrectionmeant believing that the universe has been created by a great God and that he means to heal and re-deem it. When that happens he will forgive his people their sin, establish justice, end suffering, healcreation and bring the righteous dead to life. Resurrection will be dramatic, obvious, undeniable anddone on a mass scale.”

Easter changed the world for good for God, and no force of evil or darknessever has been or ever will be able to undo that. I look forward to celebratingthe resurrection of our Lord and Savior with you on Easter.

In Christ,

by Liz Schreier, Resource Team Staff

Seeing God working through others is a common occurrence inthe Community Resource Center here at St. Andrew’s. RecentlyI received a phone call from a mom who was in need of bedsfor her two children. Although she was alsosleeping on the floor, she was only asking forbeds for her kids. She was concerned thatthey weren’t getting a good night’s sleep be-fore school.

I explained that we have no storage space forbeds, but sometimes we get phone calls withsuch offers, and I would take down her infor-mation in case something came along. (Whenwe have families in need of furnishings, one ofour favorite things to do is to connect them tothe people who are offering such items. The most exciting timefor our shelter guests is when the day comes that they get theirown housing, although they rarely have beds.)

Not even ten minutes later, I received a call from a woman who

had three beds to donate! (A set of bunk-beds and a twin bed.)It would be perfect for this family! We arranged for a volunteerwith a van to pick up the beds and deliver them to the family. Thanks to many of you, we were also able to provide sheets, blankets and new pillows.

The woman who donated the beds mentioned thatthey had just been in a spare bedroom and wererarely used. She shared with me that she suddenlyfelt a strong urge to call the Community ResourceCenter and offer them, but she had no idea why.

I think I have an idea why. I encourage any of youwho feel the “urge” to make a phone call or dosomething for someone else – act on it. There isusually a reason. You might just change some-body’s life.

To donate furnishings to the Community Resource Center, please email [email protected], or call 651-762-9124. Ifyou have bedding or pillows, please come to the CRC anytimeM-Th 8-4.

HHABITATABITAT FFOROR HHUMANITYUMANITY

It's been half a year since over 150 members of St. Andrew'sand other friends put their faith into action by helping to build athree-bedroom house at 730 Jessamine in St. Paul. The family, immigrants from Myanmar (Burma) has moved in to their newhome and look forward to finally having a stable place to live.

With last summer's successful Habitat forHumanity project behind us, we look aheadto next summer. St. Andrew's will againhelp to build a new house in partnershipwith several other churches. Wall raisingwill start on June 3 and we will supply vol-unteers and meals for the next four weeksof the house build this summer. The house wil be a two-storysingle family home at 522 Thomas Ave W in St. Paul.

2013 will be the 22nd year St. Andrew's has helped a needyfamily achieve home ownership. You may know that Habitat forHumanity is not a charity program. Homeowners make theirdown payment with 300-500 hours of “sweat equity”, and thenpay a zero interest mortgage for the actual cost of the house.Homeowners are carefully selected from needy applicants: onlyone in ten qualified applicants is offered one of the 60 homesbuilt each year by volunteers and Habitat families here in theTwin Cities.

Join your St. Andrew's friends and volunteer with Habitat nextsummer!• Be a construction volunteer (must be 16 years old)• Be a site host• Bring lunch or provide snacks, • Run in the Cemstone Run For Others on April 20 or do-nate to the Habitat building fund• Put this mission on your prayer list

Each year St. Andrew's members raise $24,000 to pay for thematerials used during the four weeks we build. The specialHabitat offering is April 13/14 this year, or you can designate agift to the Habitat for Humanity fund any time.

Volunteer registration will begin in April. Check out the Habitatfor Humanity page on the saintandrews.org website.

MMISSIONISSION JJAMAICAAMAICA

St. Andrew’s Mission Jamaica 2013God is good! We are blessed…for the journey

It is 4 a.m. Feb. 2, 2013, Mission Jamaica sojourners are trick-ling into the airport, blurry–eyed, coffee in hand, excited to beleaving sub-zero weather, excited to begin the journey to Ja-maica. For some it was their first time to Jamaica, first time asmissionaries; for some it was returning home to “family” andfriends…for all, it was a Spirit guided…God breathed… call togive and receive the love of Jesus with all people.

The guiding scripture for this mission trip was Psalm 121; I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come?

My help comes from the LORD,who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;he who keeps you will not slumber.

He who keeps Israelwill neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;the LORD is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all evil;he will keep your life.

The LORD will keepyour going out and your coming infrom this time on and for evermore.

This scripture is a promise of God’s guidance for the journey, fortravel in the wilderness. It is a Psalm that calls us to trust Godwith our anxieties and to remember that God can be trusted andis faithful to the promise of being with us always….As we set out each morning for either J’Bode [Jamaican habi-tat], Westhaven Orphange, or the medical clinic we saw in thewilderness of the hills and the wilderness of downtown Mon-tego Bay [which definitely does not look like the advertising forSandal’s!] opportunities to be a part of God’s mission in Ja-maica, live into God’s promises for the journey. Our earthlyguides for the journey – Grace, Joe, Percy and Pastor Douglas –greeted us each morning with obvious joy, difficult to under-stand given the challenges of driving us to our work sitesthrough rush hour traffic and barely passable mountain roads.

As we drove to the clinic one morning Percy was our driver, andhe gave us a little history of Jamaica. He told us that there wasa new government in place, that he was not sure what wouldhappen with their national healthcare…they were in the worst

economic state they have ever been in, very similar to Greece.Another morning, as we traveled up to Westhaven to providemedical care to the folks at Copse [a region in the hills], I askedJoe how things were with him and his family. Of course every-thing was alright, it always is with Joe. As we drove over a fa-miliar river I noticed how dry it seemed. I ask Joe if they hadrain lately. Joe said they were in the worst drought they hadhad for years. Looking at Joe I asked him how can you be sohappy all the time when it seems as things around you are sochallenging? Joe looked at me, a look of shock on his face that Iwould even ask the question I think, and then he said, “God isgood! God is faithful! We trust God!”

God is good, God is faithful, and God can be trusted is the wayour Jamaican friends live, in all circumstances. That is whatthey blessed us with….that their joy comes from living intoGod’s promise of presence. They live each day with what theyhave for that day and give thanks for it. In a country that hasmore churches per capita and some of the most visible povertyeverywhere, we find the greatest joy because of their trust inGod. The Superbowl commercial got it right, Jamaicans are joyfilled and proud of it….Thanks BE to God!

Peace,Pastor Cindy Senarighi
