St. Andrew Goes Beyond the Veil Hosted by Barony of An Dubhaigeainn - Middle Island, NY

Greetings Everyone! Well, this year’s St Andrew event has come and gone. We hope you all had a wonderful time. Such an event cannot be successful without the help and hard work of many folks. With this in mind, thank you especially, in no particular order, to the following folk: Baroness Lassar – For creating such beautiful apple blossom tokens for the event that we all might be able to cross between the worlds of Man and Fae safely, for serving as my level-headed sounding board, and for being my co-Autocrat. Baron Master Ateno – For serving as our Land Agent, handling camping and bunk accommodations; stepping up as my “media coordinator”; and for stepping in for Baroness Lassar when she became too ill to attend the event. Thanks go to Lady Slaine who assisted Baron Ateno with the various media sites, working hard to keep them updated and in sync with each other. Whew! Lady Sorcha – For serving as Merchant Coordinator and wrangler. Helena Lundonie and her assistants who handled troll and reservations, handling all with an eagle’s eye for detail. Marshals in Charge – Our Knight Marshal, Lady Vasia (Heavy List), Lady Genevieve Velleman (Archery), Lord Eanraig (Fencing), Lord Magnus (Thrown Weapons). Thank you gentlemen and ladies for running some fun themed tournaments and, to our out-going Baronial Heavy List Champion, Lord Ian McCauley, for running a special “trick-or-treat-themed tournament to choose the next Baronial Heavy List Champion! In addition, thanks to all the other marshals who came out for the day to assist in the day’s martial activities! Kitchen Staff – Duchess Isabella, Lord David Fisch, Lady Monkee, Lady Vetra, Baroness Amina, Lord Lev, and the rest of the kitchen crew for such an amazingly delicious and seemingly never-ending dayboard and feast! We were certainly stuffed to the gills. Serving Staff – Lady Violet for heading up and wrangling the serving crew through chaos thick and thin, and to the servers: Lady Sláine, Lady Arnbjorg, Lord Duggmore, Lord Saravit, Lady Jenna, Lady Fiona, Lou, and Nadine and Ginger. Event Booklet – I had asked Lady Allisenda to coordinate information I had gathered for the event into an event booklet. On relatively short notice, and within her own tight mundane life schedule, Lady Alissenda worked her amazing magic and voila, we had a beautiful event booklet. Many of you may remember Lady Alissenda’s beautiful work as one our past Chroniclers. Included in the booklet was a tale by our own Lady Saruke, who wrote a beautifully poignant “not-ghost” story that still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it – a truly fitting piece that perfectly honored one of the themes of the event, remembering and honoring those who had gone before us. Thank you, Ladies, both! Children’s Activities – Thanks to Lady Fiona and her staff for creating such wonderful activities for the Baronial children. A great job, as always! Thank you to her and to Conrad for seeing that the Gold Key and Silver Key made it to the event when Lady Hugeline became injured and could not attend the event. Our newcomers were grateful! Lord Richard the Poor – My sincerest thanks to Baron Richard for traveling far to teach dancing at our event. My one regret is not having enough time to dance your dances – Next time, Richard, I promise! (When I am not autocratting ;)

Set Up Folks – Baron Ateno, Lord Magnus, Helena Lundonie, Baroness Suzanne, Lord Titus, and Baron Master Jean Xavier Clean-Up Folks – Enough cannot be said for these folks who stayed to the bitter end Saturday evening and, in some cases, got up early Sunday morning to finish clean-up from the night before. Most notably, Lord Titus, Uta (Courtney), Countess Seneath of Acre, Stooge (who assisted us even though he had already spent the entire day helping in the kitchen) and his sister (I'm sorry, I did not have your name as of this writing), plus Lady Miranda Flamekeeper, who all washed dishes in the late evening, spelling the ladies who had already been washing/drying dishes and pots for a fair bit, Lady Arnbjorg, Lord Duggmore, “Little” Mary, Lady Sorcha, Lord Magnus, and Helena. A special thanks to the four ladies who traveled to our event – their first event ever – from Broken Bridge and Queens – and helped with cleanup Sunday morning. Alas, I cannot locate your names as my notebook with your information is MIA (Allyn and Stephanie were two of you, that much I remember, despite being a bit crispy around the edges). Remembrance Table – Many thanks to those who provided photos for the table. The Barony’s old historic photo albums received a lot of attention, with some folks offering to add vital details to some of the older photos or simply to add to the collection. Please don’t forget these albums exist – they are an important part of our past! Miscellaneous Thanks to: Lord Ronan – for, once again, making sure some of the Baronial gear not in the trailer got either to the trailer or to the event. Gil – for the loan of his most amazingly-awesome grill for the use of our kitchen crew. Libations – How can we forget the libations donated for this event? Thanks to those gentles who donated the fruits of their vines (be they grape or hops) – Duchess Isabella, Lord Thorolf, Baron Stefanus, Lord Titus, and any others not named herein, our thanks! Laurie Cat – For teaching her wonderful silk-painting class, inspiring others to go forth and paint! Lord Eanraig – For fish (Hah! I get to say “Thanks for the fish!” ;), and for stepping in on such short notice to coordinate the feast entertainment. Tableware for both High Table and Above-the-Salt tables was graciously provided by Lord Norman and Lem. The tables looked stunning! Lady Judith the Confused – For generously offering her time prior to the event to teach a mask-making class especially for the event so that folks might have paper-mache masks for the event. (I’m sorry I was unable to attend your class.) Last, but certainly not least, thank you to my Lord, Jean Xavier for so many things: from getting the Baronial trailer to and from the event, to assisting as Archery Marshal, to keeping me sane, plus all the little (and not so little) things in between – my heartfelt thanks, my love! To any I have not named here, but who helped, even in the smallest way, make the event a success, my sincerest thanks! Vivats to you all! Your Autocrat, Baronessa Gianetta (called Sidda)

Heralds Corner

With a cry of “Make way for their Excellencies!” court began on this lovely autumn day for St. Andrews Goes

Beyond the Veil.

First called before the Coronet was Israel ben Aaron, who explained the tournament for the day. He announced

the winner was Lord Ozurr the Bootgiver and awarded him a prize. The second place winner was also the winner

for the Heavy Weapon Champion spot, Lord Titus Aurellius Magnus. Who was also awarded prizes and then

handed the regalia of his role for the year.

Their Excellencies invited Genvieve Velleman and Travis Rogers into court. Baroness Suzanne apologized for

running out of outgoing champion tokens at the previous event and placed the owed tokens upon them.

Sterling of House Three Skulls was invited into court. Having been inducted into the Order of the Tygers Cub the

previous year but lacking a scroll at the time, one was created for him and presented before the populace. In his

usual oh-so-modest way, he basked in the vivats of the court.

Their Excellencies welcomed John of Gravesend into court, who presented scroll blanks that had been made by

artisans of the barony the previous night from an illumination class taught by her Excellency Lada Monguligin.

Monkey Makgee was called from the kitchen, and she was glad for the chance to give her feet a rest. Their

Excellencies informed the populace of all the good work she was doing for the barony and awarded her a silver

feather.

As Monkey ran back to her cooking duties, Lady Vetra was called out from the kitchen as well. She came into

court with her mind still busy on what she was carefully staging, saying as much to their Excellencies. They

promised to be brief, gave the quick rundown of what roles she has filled to enrich the barony and awarded her a

silver feather as well.

Laird Eanraig was invited into court, and asked to describe all the competitions he had run that day. First was the

A&S competition, which was won by Michele the Ubiquitous. Then there were 2 rounds of rapier competitions,

the first was a round robin won by Joshua Barnett, and the second was a bear pit won by Ryan.

Their Excellencies then talked about how they had put a call out for people who would intend to enter into

candidacy to be the next Baron and Baroness. Since there was only one couple who had sent a letter of intent,

they would ask those gentles to come forward and the Herald to read the letter aloud. Lord Titus and The

Honorable Lady Sorcha had written an eloquent letter about their accomplishments and what they would hope to

achieve should they be voted in place.

The newcomers were welcomed up before their Excellencies to receive guest soaps of appreciation with the

hope that they would come join us again.

Then their Excellencies, with jangling tokens in their hands and a long list to be read, dashed about the room

handing out bronze duck awards. The recipients were Lady Arnbjorg, Lord Ozurr, Lord Eanraig, Lady Fiona, Lady

Hermina, Michael Legbain, Monkey Makgee, Peter Stunj, Lord Ronan, Lady Slaine, Lady Sorcha, Baron Stefan,

Lord Stefan Kurth, Thomas Parlapiano, Lord Thorolf, Lord Titus, Lady Vetra, Lady Violet, Baroness Gianetta

(Sidda), Lord Vettorio, and Lady Vasia.

Accidentally left off the schedule was Genvieve giving a prize to Lord Robert De Whitmont for winning the

archery competition.

And thus ended the court of their excellencies, Baron David Vasquez de Valencia and Baroness Suzanne Nueber

de Londres.

Yours in Service:

Lady Violet Hughes

Arts & Sciences Greeting Populace,

It’s that time of year again, where we welcome the reign of Their Royal Majesties Brion Anthony Uriel Tarragon and Anna Ophelia Holloway Tarragon. There are a couple of A&S requests – first will be for Favors for our new queen. The design for said favors can be found here: http://ba.eastkingdom.org/…/uplo…/2016/10/Anna-III-favor.pdf

The second is for period toys for the Royal Toy Box.

...

Anyone interested in participating in the production of either, or if you have a great idea for a toy, please get in touch with me. Note that I still have some fabric leftover from the last favors we made that will be repurposed for these favors and I also have some other random supplies that can be borrowed for the task.

My goal is to have everything collected and delivered to the Kingdom by the end of November.

If you have any questions or ideas, please do not hesitate to contact me!

YIS, Monkey Makgee

As another tourney season comes to an end, we congratulate

our new Heavy Weapons Champion, Lord Titus Aurelius

Magnus; and thank Lord Israel ben Aaron (formerly Radames)

for his service to the Barony during the past year.

This year’s St Andrew’s event was very well attend. A delicious day-board and feast was

interest the masses, which included dance and various classes.

We are pleased to announce the following, Lord Titus Aurelius Magnus and The Honorable

Lady Sorcha of Stonegrave as candidates for the future Baron & Baroness of An

We are currently looking for an autocrat for our spring Schola, where the next set of

champions for A&S and Bardic will take place. If you are interested, please contact the

coronet & Seneschal. We would need a bid soon, Baronial meetings are the 1st Thursday of

the month at the Sachem Library; the next being November 3.

many opportunities to participate and enjoy the activities in the Barony.
