Advent Sermon Series: Expect the Unexpected
Advent marks the beginning of another year in the cycle of Scriptures that presents the narrative of the love of God revealed to the world. Advent disrupts our rhythm of life and invades our world in strange and unexpected ways. Keeping Advent in our modern world means making space for the unexpected and embracing the disruption, which can ultimately lead to transformation.

Lighting the Advent Candle of Love Alex and Christy Greer *Call To Worship (responsively) From places deeply rooted, we gather to light our advent candles. From places yet undiscovered, we gather to sing our advent songs. From places still hidden in plain sight, we gather to read our advent texts. From places tangled with disappointment, we gather to share our advent prayers. From places we call home, we gather with our faith family to worship our Lord and Savior. *Hymn No. 240 Hark! the Herald Angels Sing *Prayer of Approach (in unison)
Most Holy God, you have a surprising preference for people who are small and humble, and who expect everything from you. You chose Mary, the unassuming virgin from Nazareth, to become the mother of your Son Jesus. You chose Joseph, the humble and gracious carpenter, to show us faithfulness in what seems impossible. Through your Holy Spirit, make us aware of the poverty of our hearts, that we may be open to you and welcome you, and be ready, like Mary and Joseph, to serve you and your plans, and expect wonderful things from you. Come to us once again and give yourself to us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*Affirmation of Faith for Advent We believe in the Living God who is directly involved in the affairs of the world. We believe that God chooses the meek and the poor to humble the proud and the rich. We believe in the incarnate Word, leaping in a woman’s womb, cradled in poverty. We believe in Jesus, true son of Mary, true Son of God, who came among us in weakness, that we might come to know the profound strength available to common people who turn to God in faith, hope, and love. This we truly believe! *Hymn No. 234 O Come, All Ye Faithful (verses 1, 2, 3) *Benediction *Closing Praise: (screen) Go, Tell It on the Mountain

Please note, the Lucille Searcy Circle is sponsoring the Christmas mail box this year. It is located in the Narthex and the cost per card is 10 cents.
PLEASE DO NOT PUT CARDS IN THE MAIL BOX FOR MEMBERS ON THE PRAYER LIST. ONLY INCLUDE MEMBERS OF THE ST. ANDREW FAMILY THAT ARE ABLE TO PICK UP THEIR CARDS. THE CIRCLE IS UNABLE TO MAIL CARDS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PICKED UP.
The end of December will be Nancy’s last Sunday as Choir Director at St. Andrew. She has guided our musical worship for three years, and will be retiring at the end of this year. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall after worship service on December 29 for a brief reception including light snacks, cake and punch. If you would like to bring a thank you card for Nancy, there will be a basket in the Fellowship Hall. This is a great opportunity to express your appreciation for the leadership Nancy has provided to the choir and the musical program at St. Andrew.
Thank you, Nancy
