My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!
Saint Mother Teresa’s orthodoxy is impeccable! Meaning she was a bright shining light of loving commitment to truth and faith. Orthodoxy means right belief, right faith, or more literally, “right glory.” She reflected fully the Good News of Jesus in her belief and, then, in her practice, which is termed “orthopraxis.” When we get our faith right, then our actions flow from true, good, pure motivations. When our belief system is off and not accurate, how much more difficult it is to truly live faith well, consistently and with perseverance. Saint Mother Teresa’s prayer captures this reality, when she taught us: The fruit of Silence is prayer. The fruit of Prayer is faith. The fruit of Faith is love. The fruit of Love is service. The fruit of Service is peace. You see, silence is the start of listening, listening to God, learning His truth, like Mary, pondering all that she heard and saw in her Heart. Then that is transformed into prayer, which is a deepening, a dialogue between our Creator and ourselves, strengthening our faith, growing our call to love, putting that love into action and service, and in this way finding true peace in our hearts. Is that not what we all seek, deep down? Faith, love, service, true peace! The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a marvelous book to deepen our faith. When the supplemental Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church was presented in 2005 in Vienna by Cardinal Schönborn, a disillusioned journalist piped up: “Your Eminence, I wanted to buy the catechism for my growing children, but it is totally incomprehensible to young people. I will not buy it.” This embarrassing moment triggered a marvelous birth, a grassroots initiative that brought about the birth of YOUCAT, the Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church! YOUCAT has been published in 22 languages, in 50 countries, and 700,000 copies were carried in the backpacks of the World Youth Day pilgrims in Madrid, back in 2011. YOUCAT is a little yellow booklet, which appears like a Travel-Guide-Through-the-Faith, and it intends to be exactly that. What makes YOUCAT unique is the staff of 52 young people between the ages of 15 and 25, church-affiliated and un-churched, Catholic and Protestant, apprentices and students. In two summer camps in 2006 and 2007 they plowed through the Compendium with the help of the authors, two priests and two lay theologians, both married and parents of several children with backgrounds in journalism and publishing. For five days, 6 to 8 hours per day, they read and discussed the teachings of the Church, in 4 groups according to topical categories. Their openly voiced lack of understanding, their harsh criticism of the difficult theological terminology, their existential questions, and their growing interest in theological matters lead and inspired the authors’ efforts to depict the deposit of faith of the Church in a relevant and attractive form for young people. Then, earlier this year with the strong support of Pope Francis, the DOCAT came out answering the basic question: What to do? The DOCAT is a popular youth-oriented adaptation of the social teaching and doctrine of the Catholic Church. Again and again Pope Francis challenges Christians to become actively involved in working for greater justice in the world: “A Christian who in these times is not a revolutionary is not a Christian.” Saint Mother Teresa was just such a revolutionary figure. You see, once we know the basics of our faith (ORTHODOXY, YOUCAT) what are we to do (ORTHOPRAXY, DOCAT)? The DOCAT takes our faith and calls us to live it, to live God’s Master Plan: LOVE. Saint Mother Teresa said often, and lived this truth: “Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.” Also, “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love. ” The DOCAT goes on to remind us all, young and old, that Together We Are Strong, that the human person is Unique and Infinitely Valuable, that the Foundation of Society is the Family, the communion of one man and one woman established for the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. The DOCAT looks at what to do in the area human work, economic life, politics, morality, environment, and fostering a peace-filled society by our personal and social commitment. Pope Francis says about the DOCAT, it is “like a user’s manual that helps us to change ourselves with the Gospel first, and then our closest surroundings, and finally the whole world. For with the power of the Gospel, we can truly change the world.” Saint Mother Teresa embodied and integrated both the Truths of Faith and the Practice of Faith and Truth in such a marvelous, wholistic, exemplary, and loving way. In this Year of Mercy, how beautiful she is who lived and combined in her concrete life the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy! Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us!

Resurrection Choir
Our Funeral Choir can always use additional voices. This group ministers at funerals held here at St. Andrew. The funerals are normally at 10:00 AM. This is an ideal ministry for those who love to sing, but cannot make a commitment to a regular weekly choir rehearsal. Most of the hymns are from the blue Gather books and are songs that we know well. Members are notified a few days in advance by phone. You can participate as often or as little as your schedule permits. If you are interested in singing at funerals to minister to those who mourn, please contact Sue at 815-886-4165 ext. 314 or email at [email protected].

THE POPE TO CATECHISTS: DO NOT BE AFRAID OF GOING BEYOND YOUR BOUNDARIES – GOD IS ALREADY THERE.
• The catechist must be those “who keep the memory of God alive; they keep it alive in themselves and they are able to revive it in others”, like Mary, “who … sees God’s wondrous works in her life … but instead, after receiving the message of the angel and conceiving the Son of God … goes to assist her elderly kinswoman Elizabeth, also pregnant”, and upon encountering her, “the first thing she does … is to recall God’s work, God’s fidelity, in her own life, in the history of her people, in our history … Mary remembers God”.

Parent Volunteers We are always looking for parent volunteers as Room Parents
or to chaperone field trips. If you would like to be a volunteer, you must complete the
Protecting God’s Children Workshop. The workshop is being offered at St. Andrew the Apostle on Saturday, September 17th. Contact Ramona Tagle in the parish office to find out how to register.
On the first day of school the fourth and fifth graders worked on team building in their homeroom community.

A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION CATECHUMENATE
The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT MARRIAGE
Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
ORDERS Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.
ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.

The St. Andrew We Care Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 10:00 am. until 12:30 p.m. for any eligible family in Romeoville in need of food assistance.
The requirements to receive food commodities from the Pantry is that a valid State of Illinois Driver's License or State of Illinois ID and a current utility bill with your Romeoville address must be presented at the time of sign-in. Due to the poor economy, loss of employment or housing, and if you are currently residing with a Romeoville family, you may bring your valid Illinois Driver’s License or State ID AND a current utility bill from the Romeoville residents you are living with. Some proof of residency must be established. This must be brought to the Pantry each time you come for food assistance.
