Unfinished business

Budget 2018 – Dave Putz & Linda Seaverson

Dave outlined the strengths and limitations of 3 different 2018 budget scenarios: both a 2 year and sequential 1 year budgets

(applied over 2 years) were discussed with Council. Outcome: 3 different budgets will be presented at congregational meet-ing. These will include: 1) first one year budget; 2) second 1 year budget; and 3) a two year budget. S&F recommends to vote on the first one year budget, then move to a 2-year budget ASAP.

Linda S recommends that we pay $1000 (final quarter payment) to ELCA Mission Support before the end of the year.

Constitution & Bylaws Committee – Takle

We passed motions last month to bring these to the annual meeting. Proposed changes have been forwarded to Synod

For their review. If accepted, this information will be presented to congregation at Annual Meeting. Takle will seek

guidance from Pastor Carlson from the Synod office on the procedures of the pastor review. Based on recommendations

from Pastor Carlson, Takle will draft the final narrative of the Constitution and Bylaws for submission to the Synod review

committee and to the congregation at the Annual Meeting.

What Were the Youth Up to in December?

They helped with the Children’s Christmas Party! There was snowball fighting, cookie decorating, ornament making and lots of spaghetti and meatballs. The children had a blast and the party wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the youth.

They have been practicing for Madrigal

Our annual Madrigal Dinner is right around the corner! The youth have been busy practicing for this popular event. They will be dancers, singers, actors, servers and more! Performances will be held on January 13th and 14th at 5:00 PM. Remember to email [email protected] to reserve your tickets to-day!

Our Middle School Youth Performed in the Christmas Program

At the Christmas Eve Service, our middle school youth performed as some of the nativity characters. They memorized lines and put on a great performance of the Christmas story. It was a joy to watch them!

We had a Tacky Sweater Christmas Party! What is Christmas without a tacky sweater party? Our last youth group of the year was a tacky sweater Christ-mas party for our middle and high school youth. We drank hot chocolate and celebrated the Christmas sea-son together in our tacky sweaters!

Adult Forums

St. Andrew’s Book Club—January Meeting St. Andrew’s Book Club will be reading Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout for their January meeting.

Olive Kitteridge, a retired schoolteacher, deplores the changes in her little town of Crosby, Maine and in the world at large, but she doesn’t always recognize the changes in those around her. As the townspeople grapple with their problems, Olive is brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life. Olive Kitteridge offers profound insights into the human condi-tion―its conflicts, its tragedies and joys, and the endurance it requires.

Next book club meeting, January 23rd, 6:30pm, Edith Wessel’s home. Questions? Contact Sharon Prochnow at [email protected] or 515-291-3266.

Jan. 7 Sharon Prochnow will lead a Bible Study on the scriptural story of Epiphany. Jan. 14 Amanda Ahrens will do a presentation on her recent trip to Puerto Rico, rebuilding, especially on Monkey Island, following the hurricanes. Jan. 21 Pastor Beth: "What are the 5 Questions That Lutherans Ask of Every Bible Story?"

Upcoming Youth Events

Madrigal is Upon Us! The annual Madrigal Dinner will happen on Jan-uary 13th and 14th at 5:00 PM. There are months of practice that go into putting this dinner and performance together and it is always a great time! This year’s theme is pirates (aaarrrgggg!). You can reserve your seats by emailing [email protected]. It’s going to be a great night full of laughs. Seats are going fast so reserve yours today!
