Hymn 649 Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound AMAZING GRACE

Affirmation of Faith (unison) (Confession of Belhar, 10.7) We believe that God has revealed God’s self as the one who wishes to bring about justice and true peace

among people; that God, in a world full of injustice and enmity, is in a special way the God of the destitute,

the poor and the wronged; that God calls the church to follow God in this; for God brings justice to the

oppressed and gives bread to the hungry; that God frees the prisoner and restores sight to the blind; that God

supports the downtrodden, protects the stranger, helps orphans and widows and blocks the path of the

ungodly; that for God pure and undefiled religion is to visit the orphans and the widows in their suffering;

that God wishes to teach the church to do what is good and to seek the right; that the church must therefore

stand by people in any form of suffering and need, which implies, among other things, that the church must

witness against and strive against any form of injustice, so that justice may roll down like waters, and

righteousness like an ever-flowing stream; that the church as the possession of God must stand where the Lord

stands, namely against injustice and with the wronged; that in following Christ the church must witness

against all the powerful and privileged who selfishly seek their own interests and thus control and harm

others. Amen.

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in

heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.

Amen.

Stephen Ministry Congregation.

Update on the St. Andrew Pandemic Relief Fund

The updated beginning fund amount of $10,650 reflects your

efforts in ongoing and timely generosity given as well as ac-

tions taken to get people needed help. The Fund was started

with $5,000 seed money and in two weeks time grew to

$10,650 through gifts and matching funds. Thank you for your

work in this needed outreach and actions taken to respond

quickly. Similarly the requests have started coming in, and the

team from the Mission Committee awarded $1,700. The checks

are literally in the mail and probably have already been re-

ceived. Please continue to guide people to the request form,

because we do want to put these funds to work where they are

needed. Also, remember the any amount given is matched by

the Mission funds that have been set aside for this purpose.

nation of $2.29 feeds a person in need for a week. Donations

can be made by mail or online. Please write Give-a-Meal-a-

First Scripture Lesson 2 Corinthians 5: 16-21 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ

from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new crea-

tion: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us

to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling

the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to

us. 20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of

Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might be-

come the righteousness of God.

Second Scripture Lesson Genesis 33: 1-17 Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among

Leah and Rachel and the two maids. 2 He put the maids with their children in front, then Leah with her children,

and Rachel and Joseph last of all. 3 He himself went on ahead of them, bowing himself to the ground seven times,

until he came near his brother.

4 But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept. 5 When Esau

looked up and saw the women and children, he said, “Who are these with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom

God has graciously given your servant.” 6 Then the maids drew near, they and their children, and bowed

down; 7 Leah likewise and her children drew near and bowed down; and finally Joseph and Rachel drew near,

and they bowed down. 8 Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company that I met?” Jacob answered, “To find

favor with my lord.” 9 But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.” 10 Jacob said,

“No, please; if I find favor with you, then accept my present from my hand; for truly to see your face is like see-

ing the face of God—since you have received me with such favor. 11 Please accept my gift that is brought to you,

because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have everything I want.” So he urged him, and he took

it.

12 Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go alongside you.” 13 But Jacob said to him, “My lord

knows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds, which are nursing, are a care to me; and if they are

overdriven for one day, all the flocks will die. 14 Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slow-

ly, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to

my lord in Seir.”

15 So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “Why should my lord

be so kind to me?” 16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. 17 But Jacob journeyed to Succoth,[a] and built

himself a house, and made booths for his cattle; therefore the place is called Succoth.

Prelude

Call to Worship (Adapted from Psalm 13)

I trusted in your steadfast love;

my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

I will sing to the Lord,

because the Lord has dealt bountifully with me.

Opening Prayer

Hymn 403 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty UNSER HERRSCHER

Prayer of Confession

Eternal God, our judge and redeemer, we confess that we have tried to hide from you, for we have done

wrong. We have lived for ourselves, and apart from you. We have turned from our neighbors, and refused to

bear the burdens of others. We have ignored the pain of the world, and passed by the hungry, the poor, and

the oppressed. In your great mercy forgive our sins and free us from selfishness, that we may choose your will

and obey your commandments; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen (time of silent confession).

Declaration of Pardon Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Call to Faithfulness (Ephesians 4:1-6)

Lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience,

bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one

baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Sung Response Refrain of hymn 605, Praise to God the Father

Praise to God the Father; praise to God the Son; praise to God the Spirit: praise to the Three-in-One. Sing

praise, sing praise to the Lord on high. Praise to God Almighty; praise to the Holy One.
