“No Secrets…. Eventually they find out what we do!”
Brother Knights,
The question was asked of the man leaving the church “Sir would you like a book to take with
you?” a small glance and a hand wave “No” as he kept walking by. His wife, however, followed close behind
overheard the offer and decidedly considered what her husband declined. She nodded “Yes” to accept the book
only to find her husband also had turned to reconsider the offer. Together that Easter Day they left Mass with the
KofC, Matthew Kelly book, “Resisting Happiness”.
I was enjoying a Sunday breakfast with my family at Bob Evans. While we waited for our food a woman came up to
our table and indicated she had attended the St Patrick’s Dinner Dance the night before. She wanted to say how
she enjoyed the event so much and is always pleased with the Knights of Columbus events hosted at the parish
hall.
Later, as I went to pay the bill, a husband and wife couple came and waited in line behind me. I recognized them by
their faces as St Andrew parishioners. A simple hello and a smile and they too started to tell me how they enjoyed
the St Patrick’s event from the night before.
It was a typical Saturday Morning and eight Knights from council 7131 had agreed to participate with a Habitat for
Humanity construction project. Together with 30 participants from various organizations walls were hoisted, nails
were hammered, and soon both interior and exterior walls were secured in place. During the process a middle-
aged gentleman leaned over to me and thanked me for my presence and efforts. I indicated that we we’re Knights
of Columbus members and we’re happy to be participants. He then indicated he was soon to be the owner of the
house, and it was through our volunteer efforts that we were making a home possible for him and his family.
I took an opportunity after Mass this past Saturday to say farewell to Father Jay and wish him a safe trip back to
India. Father immediately indicated that he needed a copy of the Matthew Kelley book that was being distributed
at Easter. He said a lady had received the book after the Easter Mass. This is after her husband stubbornly tried to
rush by and refuse the book from the Brother Knight who offered it to him. After reading a portion of the book she
could feel an immediate change and the desire to go to confession. Father indicated this was a confession of
tremendous proportion, something she hadn’t done many, many years.
Lives are being changed, the Spirit is being felt and
how will You make the next difference in another one’s life?
