Dear Parishioners,

Congratulations to all the young teens of our parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend! It was a wonderful privilege for us to share it with them, their sponsors, and their families.

We are slowly being allowed to open indoor activities. Please call the parish offices before you plan your activity. As we gather more often in larger num-bers, it is important that we keep in mind the directives that we are asked to abide by. Always think of it as a way to help one another. The more we do things to help each other the safer we will all be. It is not about “me”, it is about all of us, from the youngest to the oldest.

One thing that struck me this week was the importance of praying before making a decision. An example of a decision that calls for personal prayer is the decision to vote, and then, the decision of who to vote for. Take that to prayer over the next couple of weeks. Make the decisions on the experience of wisdom that you will know in prayer.

We pray the Rosary during the month of October. Go for a walk and pray the Rosary, or call a friend and ask them to join you for all or part of the Rosary. Go to one of the grottoes at our parishes and pray all or part of the Rosary. If you feel it would be too long to stand, take a beach chair with you to the grotto.

This weekend we honor St. Francis, and one of our traditions is the blessing of pets. Bring your pets to St. George at 12:30 on Sunday, or to St. Alphonsus and St. James at 6pm on Sunday. Please practice social distancing and wear a mask.

Thanks you to all who continue to support our parishes with your gifts. You are being so faithful.

God bless all of you,

Fr. Mike

Separated & Divorced:

When you have tried everything to keep a marriage from ending, but it does, you may feel abandoned and very lonely. You do not have to be alone during this time of recovery and healing. God is with us, even though at times we feel so alone. It is at times like this that we need to take care of ourselves, be patient, and trust that God will lead us to where we need to be.

Starting in January The Catholic Community of Hopewell Valley will be hosting a program to help those in need. It will be held at St. James Church.

Reach out to a group of people that can understand your situation. Come share your feelings with others who are also on the same journey.

For more information and to register go to DivorceCare.org or contact either Amy Hellesen Tumminelli, 201-317-5629, or Deacon Rich Hobson, 609-737-

0122 ext. 814, [email protected].

Hope is a ministry offering spiritual support to those whose lives have been affected by the disease of addiction. We are here to pray with you, to listen to your concerns, provide a safe and confidential sup-port network, and, if need-ed, offer referrals to a vari-ety of resources. Contact Moore or Theresa Hank, 267-573-4287 or

[email protected]. Dan McCarron 609-933-9443. Jim Haggerty 609-333-8572.

Our men's group has re-sumed gathering on the first and third Saturday mornings of each month at 8am. We are meeting out-side the rectory at St. James (weather per-mitting). If it rains we'll meet on the front porch of the rectory. We are not sharing coffee or food as we used to, and we are practicing social distancing rules. The park benches are arranged in a circle which allows us to share while staying safely apart. Masks are worn ar-riving and departing. We welcome any men that are in need of a little faith shar-ing and conversation in a safe, confidential and wel-coming environment!

Respect Life Ministry

In lieu of The Baby Bottle Campaign to support Legacy of Life Foundation, this year the Catholic Community of Hopewell Valley Respect Life Ministry will host an OUTDOOR FUNDRAISER on the weekend of October, 10th-11th.

Due to Covid 19, we will not be handing out baby bottles, but will be collecting donations outside of each parish. As you enter and exit church please donate either a check, cash or loose change to support this worthy cause. For those who cannot come to church and would like to make a donation, please mail a check to Legacy of Life at 25 South Main St. #217 Yardley, PA 19067.

Legacy of Life Foundation is a crisis pregnancy center locat-ed in Bristol, PA. They support thousands of women and their babies through counseling, advocacy, informational material and financial support, as well as mentoring pro-grams that last until the baby is three years old. Please sup-port this fundraiser to help to raise awareness for the pro-life cause in our community. Thank you for your generosity.

Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, And I de-sire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacra-mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Nev-er permit me to be separat-ed from You. Amen.

How to Build a Culture of Life

Watching the news and reading the headlines, we may feel helpless seeing the heartbreaking lack of respect for human life. How do we respond? Changing the culture is a process of conversion that begins in our own hearts. When we en-counter Christ, experience His love, and deepen our rela-tionship with Him, we become more aware of our own im-measureable worth and that of others. His unchanging love is the source of our God-given dignity, which, therefore cannot be taken away. When someone is facing great trials, we need to walk with them on their journey, intercede for them, and be open to sharing Christ’s love however He di-rects. We simply need to follow where He leads. Blessing of the Animals

Traditionally, the Catholic Church dedicates the month of October to the Rosary. The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is October 7th. This beauti-ful devotion draws its mysteries from the New Testament and is centered on the great events of the Incarnation and Redemption, with each decade referring to an event in the life of Jesus and Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary give us “thumbnails” of the life of Christ and his Mother. Recitation of the Rosary in church takes place at St. George on

Thursdays after the 7:30am Mass, and at St. James after the 9am Masses. Please remain in your seat after Mass and continue to wear your facemask. The best way to celebrate the month of October is to pray the Rosary! Join us!

Announcing the Fall session of DivorceCare, held virtually starting every other Saturday September 12 at 10 AM. We encourage you to reach out to a group of people that can un-derstand your situation. Join others who are on the same journey.

In This

Week’s

Gospel...

RCIA is the process by which adults are accompanied in their jour-ney into full communion with the Catholic Church. Participants are adults who have never been baptized; baptized Christians from other denominations who want to become Catholics; bap-tized Catholics who have not received the other Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist and Confirmation); and those from any other religion desiring to become Catholics. The program also extends an invitation for anyone who desires to "catch-up" and update with the teach-ings and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. Lisa Limongello, our Parish Catechetical Leader, welcomes your inquiry: [email protected]

2020-21 Fall/Spring Session – Get Ready!

This weekend the virtual learning experience begins for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students! We are so excited to welcome them into this year of Religious Education. Please keep our students in your prayers as we embark on this jour-ney of online learning together. If you have not picked up your materials for Religious Education yet, please stop by the office to collect your folders. If par-ents have any questions, they can contact our Parish Catechetical Leader, Lisa Ann Limongello at [email protected] or 609-737-0122 x 820.

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus talks about what it means to produce good fruits with what God has entrusted to His followers. He foreshadows His own betray-al and makes it clear that the Kingdom of God will be given to those who bear good fruit and live justly in right relationship with one another. Our relation-ships, friendships, community and family are the cornerstones of our interac-tions with others. This week we’re reminded that Jesus is at the heart of all of these relationships. Unfortunately, there are many examples in our world to-day that show us what it would look like if Jesus were not the foundation of our lives. Think of the actions of the tenants in the parable. What kinds of events are happening in the world right now that mirror this self-centeredness, greed and poor behavior? Though many of us do not act like the tenants in this para-ble, we do sometimes ignore our relationships and prioritize our own wants over others. This can be a disheartening realization at first, but this Gospel ends on a positive note. We’re reminded that when we choose to act selflessly and be Christ-centered, we are bearing good fruit.

This week, think about how your family keeps Christ at its center. What else could your family be doing? Even small things like saying prayers before meals or reading aloud this week’s readings as a family can help us change our attitudes and keep us focused on Christ.
