‘We cannot re-write the chapters of history already past, but we

can learn from them, evolve and adapt. The new normal may even

be a better normal, certainly a different normal’

Dear Parents

Sub : Summer Vacation Holiday Homework

Even in these critical times of the COVID pandemic, the school has, as always, kept

the interest of the students the primary focus. Our untiring efforts have earned us a

very good and encouraging response from the students and the parents.

To minimise academic loss, we are continuing to put in our best efforts so that your

ward utilises his/her summer break in an efficient way.

We will resume classes in June 2021, as per the Government guidelines and

directives issued in due course of time. The relevant details will be notified to you

accordingly.

As always, please check your email regularly for important updates like holiday

assignments, date sheet, syllabus for unit tests and more.

Kindly encourage your ward to complete the holiday assignments (given in the next

page/s)

While the children are at home kindly encourage your ward to do the following as

well:

1. Journal Writing

Journaling for self-esteem is a great way to improve your mood regarding yourself, your mental health, and your body. By getting any negative thoughts out and

bringing more positive ideas to life, you will feel your spirits being lifted.

Maintain a journal and write on the following topics:

On a daily basis, write 3 things you did (other than studies) which you are

proud of. Try to make this list longer every day.

Write one activity you did which makes you feel guilty. Make a promise

with self to confess and apologize for bad behaviour, to the concerned

person. Make a promise to self to never do it again. Then forgive yourself.

What is best compliment you have been given? How did it make you feel?

Who is your role model? Why do you admire this person?

2. Do something creative everyday: Art, cooking, gardening, playing music,

making handmade objects, which are a part of experiential learning.

3. Apart from these, your ward must be encouraged to do Yoga / Physical

Exercise / Dance / Aerobics in the morning etc to keep themselves physically

active and healthy.

As suggested by the school in our earlier notice regarding covid awareness and diet

plan, you must encourage your ward to consume a balanced diet for their well being

and to keep themselves fit and healthy.

Stay home and stay safe.

SUBJECT : COMPUTER

Important Notes:- Ch-1 Moving Ahead With Computer System

Primary Memory

(i) ROM (Read Only Memory) .The data and instructions stored in ROM can only be retrieved for an

application in the user's program but nothing can be written or modified in it. ROM is programmed to

store system commands, library functions and other programs.

(ii) RAM (Random Access Memory):It is a volatile memory, i.e. the contents get erased as soon as power

supply is switched off. The application programs i.e. the programs and data supplied by the users get red

in this area of primary memory. After the execution is over, the contents are either shifted to secondary

memory for permanent storage or deleted from it.

Cache Memory: CPU works faster than any other device in a computer. This speed mismatch creates difficulty

in data transfer between 1/0 devices and processor. Hence, a high speed storage device is needed in between a

CPU and the 1/0 devices. It can supply data to the CPU with the same speed as the CPU requires. It is known as

cache memory, pronounced as 'Cash memory. Hence, a cache memory is a high speed memory, capable of

providing data to the CPU from RAM - memory

Ports

Ports are the connecting nodes that act as interface between the peripheral devices and the processor. They are

also known as communication ports. They act as bridge between external devices and CPU for data

communication, Some of the ports are explained below:

a. Serial Port: It is a serial communication physical interface through which information transfers in or

out one bit at a time (in contrast to a parallel port). It uses single wire for communication. Earlier, in

personal computers, data was transferred through serial ports to devices such as modems, terminals

and various peripherals.

Serial ports are usually available with 9 pins or 24 pins and allow the mouse, the modem, etc. to

connect to computer. Serial ports are becoming outdated because they take too much time to transfer

data. But they are still used in industrial automation systems, scientific instruments, shops, some

industrial and consumer products Server computers may use a serial port as a control console for

diagnostics. Network equipment (such as routers and switches) often use serial console for

configuration.

b. Parallel Port: A parallel port is a type of interface found on computers (personal and otherwise) for

connecting peripheral devices. In computing, a parallel port is a parallel communication physical

interface which is also known as a printer port.

This type of port is available with 24 pins female connector and is capable of transmitting eight bit

signal at a time i.e., the transfer rate is eight times faster than a serial port. This port is provided to

connect the CD-writer, scanner, printer, hard disk, etc.

Today, the use of parallel port interface has decreased because of increase in Universal Serial Bus

(USB) and FireWire devices along with network printing using Ethernet

c. USB Port: Universal Serial Bus (USB) is standard for connectors used for a communication and

power supply between computers and electronic devices. USB was designed to standardize the

connection of computer peripherals (including keyboards, pointing devices, digital cameras, printers,

portable media players, disk drives and network adapters) to personal computers, both to

communicate and to supply electric power.
