The Purley Food Hub is a vital resource for many people in our neighbourhood providing food and other items to people in crisis. In June, it provided 2,187 meals for its clients and their families, taking 2019's total meals so far to just short of 14,000. Since the food hub started in January 2013, it estimated that it has provided more than 145,000 meals overall! Many thanks to all those supporting the local community in this way - please continue to donate whatever you can especially as we approach the summer holiday period when children do not necessarily have access to free school meals.

Parish Fete 2019 - Thank you

A great big thank you to everyone who organised, supported and attended the Parish Fete last Sunday. Many hundreds of parishioners as well as many other local people enjoyed a wonderful day with great food, plenty of refreshment and brilliant entertainment. Even the weather improved as the afternoon unfolded. This is one of the most important days in the social and fundraising diary and as a parish we must express our thanks and gratitude to Pauline and Ian and their supporting team for all the months of planning and hard work that made the day such a success. It was wonderful to see so many members of the parish either involved or just there to enjoy themselves.

We would especially like to mention our generous sponsors for their support.

Lourdes. As a number of St Aidan's parishioners prepare to travel to Lourdes this Friday 19th July with the HCPT Group 510, we ask for your prayers that the trip might be filled with restorative and healing experiences, and that the pilgrims may return refreshed in body, mind and spirit. The group stays in Hosanna House, which is designed for the needs of disabled people. Coincidentally 19th July is also the National Awareness Day for the Changing Places campaign. This seeks to bring public attention to the fact that over 1/4 million people need access to spe-cially adapted toilets to enable them to get out and about and enjoy the day-to=day activities many of us take for granted. Look out for for the campaign and please give it your support.

The Parish Pastoral Council will meet in the Marian Room on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

First Confession & First Holy Communion Preparation

THIS SUNDAY IS THE FINAL DAY FOR ENROLMENT

First Confession and First Holy Communion preparation begins in September. If you wish to enrol your child for the parish preparation programme for First Confession and First Holy Communion you must request a form from Fr. Peter outside Church after Mass. Forms will be available next weekend also. Completed forms should be given to Fr. Peter. Notices and reminders will be published in the Newsletter. WEEKLY MASS for Catholic parent and child is an essential condition for being accepted on the preparation programme. The preparation programme is parish based. Those who live outside the Parish boundary are not eligible to enrol unless they have already attended here weekly for at least the past year. Attendance at St. Aidan’s School is not in itself sufficient. It will not be possible for us to accommodate individual children who have other sport and cultural interests during session times. For this brief period the First Confession and First Communion preparation must take precedence.

Journey-in-Faith — 2019 / 20 Begins late September 2019. The course is for: Those who wish to become members of the Catholic Church; OR those who wish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation as adults (18 yrs. and over); Please see Fr. Peter or email [email protected] OR fill in the slip below and return to Fr. Peter: Name: ________________________________________________________________________________ Tel: ___________________________________ Email: _______________________________________

Why should we plant trees ? - They remove pollutants and some greenhouse gases from the air

- They provide habitats for animals, birds and insects. - They capture rainwater and can reduce flooding. - They provide food, shade, - They are good for our health and of course they are beautiful.

Congratulations to the following couples from our parish who this weekend attended the Wedding Anniversary Mass at St. George’s Cathedral: Carol & Mel Griffin (50); Brenda & Peter McFall (40); Mary & Paul Dibbs (40); Jenny and Nick Mulholland (1) Eileen & John Joyce (50) will be celebrating at 6pm Mass here in St. Aidan’s on Saturday. There will be other couples who wish to celebrate their special wedding anniversaries privately, every blessing to them also.

Pope's Prayer Intention for July 2019 During this month we pray that those who administer justice may work with integrity and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word
