Your manager will advise you who you should ask to countersign your application. What happens if I do not register? What are my responsibilities?Registration is a personal responsibility

As a registered worker, you will be responsible for:

• Adhering to the SSSC Code of Practice – you can read and download a copy of this at www.sssc.uk.com/codes• Paying an annual registration fee (currently £25 per annum)• Renewing your registration after 5 years• Undertaking post-registration training and learning (PRTL) to keep your practice up-to-date. You will be required to record your PRTL and reflect on how you have put your learning into practice.• Meeting qualification requirements• Keeping the SSSC up-to- date with any changes in your circumstances such as your address or employment

Your qualification and PRTL requirements will depend on your specific role and further details are available on the SSSC website. If you do not already hold the relevant qualification for your role, you will have 5 years from the date of your registration to successfully achieve this.

Benefits of Registration Registration confirms that you have been found fit to be a member of the social services workforce and is intended to:

• Protect the people we support;• Raise standards of practice in• social care; and• Strengthen and support the professionalism of the workforce you are part of

Professionalising your roleThe SSSC Register was set up under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 to regulate social service workers and to promote their education and training.

Social service workers in care at home services and housing support services have to register with the SSSC to be able to work in the field, unless registered with another regulatory body such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The relevant part of the register opened for applications on 2 October 2017.

Before you apply to register:For the SSSC to be able to consider your application, it is vital that you provide all the information they require. In advance of making your application, you should gather together the following information:

• A personal email address where the SSSC can contact you• Your National Insurance number• The care service number or postcode of where you work• A note of your employment history over the last 5 years, including start and finish dates• A note of any relevant qualifications you hold as well as the relevant award certificates— copies of these need to be sent• A note of any criminal offences you have• A note of any disciplinary matters taken against you• A note of any health conditions or concerns you have
