    Great news on the sports facilies develop-

    ment caused huge celebraons across the

    school and the wider community, aer plan-

    ning permission was granted by Traord Coun-

    cil for the project.

    Building work has started on the huge invest-

    ment, which will see the school have a new

    Sports Hall with a classroom, mul changing

    rooms, dance suite, tness suite and retractable

    seang. In addion a 4G pitch and top quality

    grass pitch will be developed with oodlights.

    The facilies will be available for use by the wid-

    er community of North Traord providing an

    enormous boost to the area in a very specialsporng year. Compleon of the project is ex-

    pected between April and July of 2012.

    The project will enable partnerships with MUFC,

    SCR, LCCC, Sport Traord and the North Traord

    Sports Partnership ourish to whole new levels

    of excellence.

    I acvely take part in dance related sports. As a child I was a semi professional bal-

    lerina however aer a knee injury I was unable to develop this further. I sll have a

    vested interest in dance and aend Zumba classes, Street dance classes and abso-

    lutely love watching Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday evenings.

    What are you most looking forward to about London 2012?

    I am really looking forward to interacng with people from other cultures and expe-

    riencing new foods. I am looking forward to how London 2012 will aect the fash-

    ion industry and the educaonal climate.

    What is your favourite Olympic memory?

    I remember watching the opening ceremony in 2008 whilst on honeymoon in Mi-

    ami whilst eang Portuguese sushi! The graphics were phenomenal and awe inspir-

    ing.

    sports stars and the languages they speak

    Sajjid Mahmood, the Bolton born star of Lan-

    cashire County Cricket club and England is an

    Urdu speaker. His grandfather emigrated from

    Pakistan in 1968.

    He started playing cricket in the BoltonLeagues and signed for Lancashire in 2002.

    Urdu is the main language spoken in the

    Mahmood household.

    Olympic Torch is on its Way!

    SSMs Short Shorts!!!

    Cycling makes a welcome appearance

    at SHS when Sporvate from Sport

    Traord sees the launch of a 6 week

    Cycling course.

    If you wish to sign up for the course,

    the list is on the noceboard in PE orsee Mr Fretwell for details.

    Hockey connues to develop as part

    of the Brish Council Olympic Dreams

    project. Students have been receiving

    coaching on Tuesdays as part of the

    link with Habib School in Karachi and

    our Olympic link with the Pakistan

    Hockey Team. All students are wel-

    come to come along to the sessions.

    Go 5 is the new Sport Traord Leader-

    ship Programme and has started as a

    pilot here at SHS.

    20 students have started the 5 step

    course that oers a formal Leadership

    qualicaon.

    If you wish to be part of it in future,

    please see the PE Department.

    Excitement arrived at SHS recently when the Leader of

    Traord Council arrived to announce that the Olympic

    Torch is on its way to Traord!!!

    Year 7 students helped celebrate the excellent news by link-

    ing with Mrs Saxton in Art to create Olympic torches.

    The famous torch is lit using the sun from My Olympus in

    Greece, scene of the rst Olympic games and makes the

    journey from Beijing in Chinawhere the last games took

    place to London. On its way it will travel all around the Unit-

    ed Kingdom and pass the Olympic values. It will pass

    through Traord as Old Traord is an Olympic venue.
