The Idea In Brief

Concept: SSE Riga Consulting Club – a student-run organization with a purpose to:•Provide the students with information and insider experience about management consulting profession•Communicate, build relationships and cooperate with management consulting companies•Help the students develop their skills, abilities and competencies to succeed in management consulting (however, a lot of skills are universal and therefore useful in any business area, so the Club also creates value for people not interested in pursuing a career in management consulting)•Reinforce learning with real consulting projects and provide the clients (small enterprises) with value-enhancing free consulting services•Encourage the companies to hire from SSE Riga (maybe even go beyond Baltic area)•Help the students prepare for application process (resume, case studies, interviews etc.)

Two Core Activities (“Branches”)

Consulting Branch:•Getting to know the industry (arranging company presentations, guest lectures, other events)•Developing skills (arranging seminars, workshops or any other type of trainings)• Supporting recruiting (preparation for application process, encouraging direct recruiting at SSE Riga)

Project Branch:•Projects carried out by teams of students from all years (more focus on Y2-Y3)•Target clients – small enterprises, start-ups, NGOs, NPOs•In addition to students’ input on projects, some external supervision is needed to ensure the quality of solutions to business problems in order to create real value for the clients

Learning Process

Learning about consulting

and developing skills

Participating in small consulting

projects

Consulting branch. The Club arranges company presentations, guest lectures, workshops, case studies and any other possible training. The students later combine the acquired new knowledge and skills with knowledge from regular SSE courses and apply them in a project.

Project branch. Solutions to business problems that are tackled during the project require some specific skills and/or knowledge. So, participation in projects signals on what skills should the students focus and try to acquire from the Club’s activities.

So, What Do We Ask From Alumni?

Our current goal is to find out who would be willing to get involved in any of the four areas:•Be a supervisor in a project. The idea is to have a large group of people from diverse fields. Once a project comes, people with relevant experience would be contacted to inquire about possibilities of becoming supervisors for that project. Such alumni participation is absolutely crucial for the Club.•Provide training. Again, we would like to gather a group of people who would be willing to share their experience at some point in the future. •Help build relationships with management consulting companies. Alumni who work in management consulting companies are especially welcome to cooperate.• Help getting a project.

If you are interested and able to participate, please send an email to Karolis Šarūnas ([email protected]) notifying in what way you are willing to contribute. Also, any other comments, suggestions or critique are very welcome.
