Dear Parish Family ~

Welcome to Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion, and to Holy Week 2015.

Focus on the Scriptures What is the Face of Christ that is presented to us in the Readings today? Is it the plucked beard, and the spat upon face in the reading from Isaiah? Is it the glorified one, honored by the bending of the knee in the hymn penned by St. Paul? Is it the face of one disappointed and abandoned by His own disciples—and left to die on a cross? Or, is it the one of whom the centurion said, “Truly, this was the Son of God”? Which face do you see today?

Question of the Week As I carry home the Blessed Palms today, acknowledging Jesus as King, what one, specific act will I commit to doing This Week, that will declare — without words — that Jesus reigns as King over my life?

Remember... The Church asks all her faithful sons and daughters to, at least, make a good sacramental confession of their sins during the Easter Season.

I warmly invite and welcome those of you who have been away from this sacrament of healing forgiveness, to come back to Confession.

Upcoming Events:

Palm Sunday Stations of the Cross Join us – together with our young people; Our Lady's Maidens and Knights of the Altar – for Solemn Franciscan Stations of the Cross This Sunday, at 3:00 PM. We will reflect on Joining our sufferings to the final days of Jesus' passion, during this Holy Week. Stations will be followed by Exposition, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

What is Palm Sunday? Palm Sunday is a commemoration of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, coinciding with the Jewish festival of Passover. He was met by crowds of followers and supporters, who lined the road into the city, and waved branches cut from palm trees. They laid palm fronds on the road and even laid down cloaks for Jesus to ride over. This entry into Jerusalem fulfilled the Old Testament Prophecies; promising that God's Messiah would enter the holy city and go to the temple.

Traditional names for the Days of Holy Week

Palm Sunday - The name comes from the Palm branches. Fig Monday – The day on which Christ cursed the fig tree. Spy Wednesday – The day on which Judas Iscariot met with the Jewish priests and made plans to betray Jesus. Maundy Thursday – This one comes from the Latin Vul-gate version of John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you: That you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” Maundy comes from the Latin verb “to command.” Good Friday – Here “good” hearkens back to Middle Eng-lish, in which the word denotes piety or holiness. Holy Saturday – A quiet day, the perfect Sabbath of Christ, in which He descended into the limbo of the just, and delivered the saints of the Old Testament.
