"DGCA has to play a role of impartial regulator. The regulator despite being told to file their response chose not to file it. New Delhi, Feb 20 A special CBI court has sentenced three years rigourous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 to a former Superintendent of Customs and Central Excise for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a mobile shop owner in Guntur, a CBI spokesperson said here today. Patna, Feb 20 Nitish Kumar will get back the reins of Bihar on Sunday, capping a fortnight-long political drama which ended in an anti-climax with rebel JD(U) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi resigning as chief minister shortly before the floor test today sensing imminent defeat. Man bludgeoned to death in UP Kanpur, Feb 20 A 41-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by some persons in Kalyanpur area in the wee hours today, police said. The incident happened when Tarachand, the nephew of retired police officer Shivcharan Singh, was guarding Singh's under-construction house, SP (Rural) Surendra Tiwari said. His body was found lying in a pool of blood in his tent by the neighbours this morning, who informed the police, he said. Surat A Surat-based diamond trader Friday won the bid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pinstriped monogrammed for Rs4.31 crore. Earlier, the scramble to possess the controversial suit of Prime Minister Modi grew with Surat-based diamond trader Mukesh Patel making a staggering bid of Rs2.31 crore on the last day of the auction. Patel had earlier offered Rs2 crore, but later raised the bid through a written offer of Rs2.31 crore to Rs4.31 crore. “I had lost courage as the bidding amount kept on increasing. Then I talked to my business partner who showed readiness to make the bid of Rs2.31 crore,” said Patel, who came to the auction venue with his business partner Sanjay Movaliya. “We will go ahead as per our capacity. We wish to contribute to the ‘Clean Ganga’ mission and that is the reason we have increased our bid,” he said. The auction at the Science Convention Centre closed at 5pm, after which the articles will be handed over to the highest bidder. Prior to Patel, a Haryana-based company’s MD offered Rs2.09 crore for the suit. There have been 11 bids so far on Friday, with four offers of more than Rs2 crore to claim the suit that Modi wore at his meetings with US President Barack Obama during his India visit last month. Prior to Mukesh Patel, Haryana-based LPS Bossard’s MD Rajesh Jain, through his representative Himanshu Parmar, made an offer of Rs2.09 crore for the suit. This was the second bid by Jain, who had earlier offered to buy the suit for Rs1.85 crore. “The good cause of funds going to ‘Clean Ganga’ mission is the motivational factor for the bid. Besides, it is the responsibility of the industries to make bid for a good cause,” Parmar said. Earlier, another Surat-based diamond trader Hitesh Patel had offered Rs2.08 crore, which was his third bid of the day after Rs1.61 crore and Rs1.75 crore. “I have made the bid of Rs2.08 crore for the Modi suit. I don’t know how further I will go, but as this fund will be utilised to clean river Ganga, whatever I give would be less,” Hitesh said. Earlier in the day, businessmen Lavji Badshah and Jayanti Aklara made a joint offer of Rs1.81 crore to purchase the monogrammed suit. Mumbai-based businessman Vipul Shah, managing director of Asian Star, made a written bid of Rs2.05 crore, while prior to him Mukesh Patel offered Rs2 crore for the suit. The other six bids made on the last day of the auction were less than Rs2 crore. On the second day of auction Thursday, the highest bid was Rs1.48 crore for the suit. The bidding for the suit had started with Rs11 lakh on the first day of auction. The suit that kicked up a political storm is being auctioned along with 455 items that Modi had received as gifts during his nearly nine-month long tenure, to generate funds for the Prime Minister’s ambitious ‘Clean Ganga Mission’. Modi was photographed wearing the suit during his summit talks with Obama in Hyderabad House in Delhi on 25th January and at a joint media appearance that followed the meeting. The suit triggered a debate and Modi was slammed by his political opponents – especially the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for wearing an expensive suit that some reports claimed cost nearly Rs10 lakh. Amid the media hype surrounding the auction, Congress workers had Thursday protested outside the auction venue, calling the event an act of “self-publicity” by Modi. Documents leaks case: Police recover input for finance minister's budget speech New Delhi The corporate espionage case in the petroleum ministry has got bigger with Delhi Police alleging on Friday that classified documents from the coal and power ministries were leaked too by suspects. The police told a court in Delhi that "incriminating" documents of the coal and power ministries were allegedly found in the possession of the accused, who were supplying these to certain corporate houses for their benefit. Police sources told Hindustan Times that inputs for the finance minister's budget speech were among the leaked documents. An input on the National Gas Grid for the budget speech was among the various "secret" documents the police recovered, Press Trust of India reported. The police also recovered a letter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's principal secretary Nripendra Misra, according to the FIR in the case presented to chief metropolitan magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal, who heard the proceedings for remand of the accused. Santanu Saikia, a former journalist who runs a web portal on petroleum issues, and Prayas Jain, a Melbourne-based energy consultant; were arrested this morning. They allegedly worked as middlemen between employees in the petroleum ministry, who stole the documents, and corporations that bought them. Police sources said classified documents were recovered from Saikia's home and the Official Secrets Act may be invoked in the case. The sources said the espionage ring worked in several layers: peons in the ministry stole documents and sold them to consultancy firms, which analysed them and prepared reports for corporations. Photocopies of various other documents also included one with a heading 'Brief on further opportunities in Sri Lanka dated February 4, 2015'. The police also recovered from the accused photocopies of papers of Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell on the 'monthly gas report/ December 2014' dated February 16, 2015 signed by Atreyee Das, DG of the cell. Indian Coast Guard releases video of Pakistani terror boat exploding New Delhi In its defence, the Coast Guard on Friday released a video to prove that the Pakistani boat with suspected terrorists on board on the night of December 31, 2014, was not blown up by India, rather it was set afire by its occupants. The development comes a day after the Defence Ministry Manohar Parrikar issued a show-cause notice to Deputy Inspector General of the Indian Coast Guard, BK Loshali, for taking the responsibility of sinking the Pakistani boat. Parrikar had earlier said that his Ministry stands by the statement that an intruding Pakistani boat blew itself up off Porbandar coast on New Year eve. The footage was released today after Loshali was filmed declaring that he had ordered that the boat be attacked as it approached Indian waters. "I hope you remember the 31st December night. We blew off the Pakistan... we blew them off," BK Loshali said in a video released by a leading English Daily. However, Loshali, denied reports that he had admitted ordering to blow up the Pakistani boat in the Arabian Sea on New Year's Eve. The claim was in sharp contrast to New Delhi's official position that the boat had "suspected terror links" and that the crew had committed suicide by setting the vessel on fire. Prime Minister Modi to Visit Sri Lanka in March, Could Go to Jaffna COLOMBO Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Sri Lanka next month, the first bilateral visit to the country by an Indian premier in over 25 years, and is likely to go to Tamil-dominated Jaffna amid signs of growing amity between the two neighbours. "Prime Minister Modi will arrive on March 13 on a 3-day visit," Sri Lankan Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Rajitha Senaratne said. During his Lanka visit, Mr Modi is likely to go to war- ravaged Jaffna in the Tamil- dominated Northern Province and Trincomalee in the Eastern Province, sources said. If Mr Modi visits Jaffna, he would be the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. The visit comes within a month of new Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena's India trip this week that saw the two countries sign a civil nuclear pact. This was Mr Sirisena's first foreign visit after assuming charge following a bitter presidential poll in which he defeated former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, ending his 10-year rule. Analysts see the high-level exchange of visits as a sign of growing amity between the two neighbours and a shift in Colombo's policy that was heavily pro-China under the previous administration. According to UN estimates, more than 40,000 civilians were killed in Lanka during the final phase of the conflict that ended in 2009. 129 swine flu cases in Lucknow Lucknow With nine more patients of swine flu in the state capital, the total figure of those infected by the disease reaches 129. "Nine new patients have been been detected positive for H1N1 in the state capital since yesterday," Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr SNS Yadav said. "With this, a total of 129 swine flu patients have been found in Lucknow so far. They are being treated in different hospitals of the city", he said. Altogether, three persons including Swatantra Saksena, working in Merchant Navy, a retired Army officer and the wife of a retired jawan have succumbed to the disease in Lucknow. With sharp rise in cases of swine flu in the state capital, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has directed to provide free and prompt treatment to such patients in SGPGI, KGMU and other medical colleges of the state. The CM has also directed that availability of medicines should be ensured in government hospitals.

Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar's quickadmission of his mistake in resigning as Bihar chiefminister and apology to the people is a clear reminderthat he has learnt a lesson from Aam Aadmi Party chiefand Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Speaking tomediapersons in Patna on Friday after meeting BiharGovernor Keshari Nath Tripathi, Kumar said, "I acceptmy mistake for stepping down as CM. I seek apologyfrom the people of Bihar for this mistake." Kejriwal toohad repeatedly admitted his mistake in resigning as Delhichief minister and apologised to the people of Delhi. Thevoters of the national capital seem to have not onlyforgiven Kejriwal but also brought AAP back to powerwith an unprecedented majority of 67 of the 70 seats.Kejriwal had resigned in a huff on February 14, 2014after AAP failed to get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed. It didnot get the support of the Congress with whose outsidesupport it was running the government. There are severalsimilarities between Kejriwal and Kumar as far asresigning from their chief minister's post and thenaccepting their mistake and apologising to the people isconcerned. The resignation of both Kejriwal and Kumaris related to their prime ministerial ambitions. In his speechon February 14 after he was sworn in as Delhi ChiefMinister for the second time, Kejriwal admitted that theyhad become arrogant enough to contest the Lok Sabhaelections. "We paid for our arrogance in the 2014 LokSabha elections and god punished us," he said. Kumar isalso known to have harboured prime ministerial ambitions.Exactly a week after Narendra Modi was declared asBharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Campaign Committeechairperson on June 16, 2013, JDU broke its alliancewith it. The BJP leaders took digs at Kumar saying hehad assumed that the third front parties would projecthim as the leader for the Lok Sabha elections which neverhappened. Both Kejriwal and Kumar seem to haverealised their mistakes the hard way. The former had towitness protests in the form of facing black flags, hoots, eggs, tomatoes and footwears from the public throughoutthe country. A Delhi auto-rickshaw driver even slappedhim hard once. As far as Kumar is concerned, he installedhis follower Jatin Kumar Manjhi. However, instead ofbeing a "remote-controlled" chief minister, Manjhi defiedhim and JDU and embarrassed them on severaloccasions. Matters reached such a pass that Manjhi wasexpelled from the party despite being a CM and bothchallenged each other. Apparently taking a leaf out fromKejriwal's experience, Kumar hopes that the voters willforget and forgive him if he aired in public his realisationof mistake and apologised to the people.

I-League: Tough battle on the cardsas Mumbai FC face Wahingdoh

MUMBAIWhat a victory can do isamazing. Mumbai FC, for solong languishing at thebottom of the I-Leaguetable without a win, suddenly jumped into theeighth position. A win overthe fancied Salgaocar lastweek did wonders forKhalid Jamil's boys and thecoach celebrated like aplayer, kissing the turf tothank the forces for beingwith the team. On Friday ,Mumbai FC face thechallenge of RoyalWahingdoh at theCooperage in a sixth roundclash. Currently,Wahingdoh are enjoy ing animpressive run likeSunderland managed in theEnglish Premiership. Theyare leading the table with 13points from their six games.A young team managed bya shrewd coach in SantoshKashyap, it has fourvictories and one horrificdefeat at the hands ofBengaluru FC. Kashyapknows how to handleplayers and he showed in histeam's performance. His

statement is ample measureof that: "To be honest, I didnot expect us to be on top.I just told them to enjoy andgive their best. I have madethe team pressure-free," saidKashyap. Having said that,he quietly put the pressureon Mumbai FC bydeclaring that his team arethe favourites. Mumbai FChave played well and onlyagainst Salgaocar have theycome out on tops in termsof result. Japanese Taisukeand Jayesh Rane ran the

Salgaocar defence ragged. If according to indicationsClimax Lawrence joins themidfield, then they get acontrolling midfielder parexcellence.Mumbai FC defence hasplayed well and only arather foolish venture out ofthe safety by the goalkeepergave Salgaocar an openingin the first half. If MumbaiFC can play with the sameexuberance and solidity ,Cooperage will see a solidfight on Friday.

World Cup 2015: How McCullum'scaptaincy has transformed New Zealand

Melbourne"A former first-classwicketkeeper spoke of aclub match where a youthfulMcCullum sledged frombehind the stumps. When itcame to McCullum's turn tobat the senior glovemanrepaid the favour by walkingwith him to the battingcrease, taunting all the way.McCullum was hardlyaffected. He proceeded topropel his side to victory

with a wagon wheel like adropped packet ofspaghetti. The veterancouldn't wait to shake hishand at the end afterwitnessing such acommanding display."Andrew Alderson inESPNCricinfo gives asnippet of BrendonMcCullum in his early days.He was brash. He wasaggressive. He wasfocussed. He was also

capable of wildlyinconsistent displays. Butwith time, especially aftertaking over New Zealand'scaptaincy reins, he hasmatured. It's amazing howa player's personality, especially a captain's, rubsonto the team and brings thebest out of the players. Asthe Kiwis absolutelythrashed England in front ofa full house at the Westpacstadium, the McCullumeffect was palpable. It wasTim Southee's (7-33) dayno doubt. He bowled oneof the best spells of swingbowling one could havewitnessed but it wasMcCullum’s aggressivecaptaincy that laid thefoundation for victory. InSouthee and Trent Boult,McCullum has one of themost dangerous new ballbowling pairs at hisdisposal.
