Editors' Picks QUOTEOF THE
DAYYadav, Bhushan in AAP firing lineThe simmering strife within Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) reached boiling point on Monday with its seniorleaders coming out in the open accusing each other oftrying to weaken the party. Founder leaders and advisersof the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who also headsthe fledgling party, namely Yogendra Yadav and PrashantBhushan, were the target of attacks by what they termedthe coterie around Kejriwal. Kejriwal has convened ameeting of the party’s apex decision-making body PoliticalAffairs Committee (PAC) Wednesday to discuss theemerging situation. With 15 out of 21 PAC membersadvocating dismissal of Yadav and Bhushan, in alllikelihood the dissenting duo will be dropped from PAC.The allegations against them is that they are working againstthe party, especially Kejriwal and constantly leakinginternal communications of the party to the media in a bidto paint AAP in poor light. “The decisive churning in AAP.It’s clash of ideas between ultra left who demandreferendum in Kashmir and pragmatic politics ofwelfarism,” senior AAP leader Ashutosh, considered closeto Kejriwal tweeted Monday, virtually accepting that theinternal strife had reached flash point. Both Yadav andBhushan are seen as leaders with the Left leanings. AAPco-convener Durgesh Pathak went even further byaccusing Yadav and Bhushan of conspiring againstKejriwal. “I was shocked to know that Prashantji andYogendraji wanted to lose Delhi polls,” Pathak said in aninterview to news agency, explaining that they wanted toremove Kejriwal from the post of convener of AAP usingDelhi polls as an excuse. AAP under Kejriwal recordeda historic victory last month by bagging 67 seats in the70-member Delhi state legislative assembly. Bhushan’sfather and another AAP founding member Shanti Bhushanhad questioned Kejriwal’s style of functioning in the runup to Delhi polls and even saying rival Bharatiya JanataParty’s Kiran Bedi would prove to be a better chiefminister to Kejriwal. While Yadav termed speculationabout their removal from PAC as “baseless allegations”,Bhushan termed the issues an internal matter of the party, saying he would rather not speak about these in public.“I wrote a letter to the National Executive to being aboutstructural changes in the party. It should not be seen as arevolt,” Bhushan said. However, in one of the letterswritten by Bhushan, leaked to the media by yet to beidentified sources, Bhushan had raised questions abouttransparency within the party. He had questioned the oneperson-centric campaign of AAP in Delhi, saying AAP wasmade to look no different from other conventional parties.“Running one (Kejriwal) person-centric campaign may beeffective, but does not justify sacrificing our principles? Wewill need to make a conscious course correction if we haveto get away from a supremo controlled party,” Bhushanhad said in his letter. The basic difference between Kejriwaland Yadav-Bhushan duo is over the party’s future. WhileKejriwal wants to concentrate on governance in Delhi andis not keen on AAP’s expansion across India, Yadav andBhushan are in favour of looking beyond and expand theparty in other states. They have identified four statesincluding Punjab where the party should start preparationsto contest assembly elections in future.

1st and 2nd March. Thistime, IMD was so sureabout arrival of rain thatthere was not this word‘possibility’ in its statement.IMD had categorically andclearly predicted theshower. Now if there’s suchclear prediction, and evenafter that if marketing yardskeep agriculture produce inopen, then whom to blame? Here’s a suggestion.Whenever IMD is very sureabout some prediction, itshould have a system todirectly trigger SMS to akasof marketing yards andSarpanchs of grampanchayats across the state. To make this possible, firstthere should be a data ofmobile numbers of targetclass available. It should beupdated regularly andmerged with a system thatis directly operated by IMD
regional office. There shouldbe certain guidelines onwhen to shoot SMS. Justrelying on journalists toconvey the message is notenough. Newspapers relayprediction next morningwhile regional TV channelsmay or may not understandseriousness and providetimely and sufficientcoverage. Not everyone isgoing to open IMD websiteregularly to come to knowabout updates. Shootingbulk SMS to target audiencethrough mobile phone iseasier. If you choose toshoot SMS only for three-four times a year, say forcyclone, unseasonal rain andflood alert, it’s not intrusiveor can’t be termed asdisturbing communication.New-era communicationhas to be adopted bygovernment for good of all.
