From the Associate Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners, On this Feast of Christ the King, I share a great quote from J.R.R. Tolkein, which Timothy Gordon opens his masterful book, Catholic Republic, How America will Perish

without Rome. It is indicative of the absolute necessity of a successful Catholic Church to bring about the kind of reform America needs. Pippin, the Hobbit, who accompanies Frodo Baggins during their quest to destroy the ring, which is a source of power and a source of evil asks Gandalf: “Why are they still guarding the Tree of the King? We can ask today, “Why are we still celebrating a feast to a King, after modernity has destroyed monarchy?”

Gandalf answers; “They guard it because they have hope, a faint and fading hope that one day it will flower, (a true reformation) and a King will come, and the city will be as it once was, before it fell into decay. The old wisdom borne out of the West (i.e. Christianity) was forsaken. Kings made tombs more splendid than the houses of the living and counted the old names of their descendants dearer than the names of their sons. Childless lords sat in aged halls musing on heraldry or in high cold towers asking questions of the stars. And so, the people of Gondor fell into ruin. The line of Kings failed. The White Tree withered. The rule of Gondor was given over to lesser men.”

“We ask, O Lord, that, glorying in obedience to the commands of Christ, the King of the universe, we may live with Him eternally in His heavenly Kingdom.” (Prayer after Communion)

Fr Thomas Koys, M.A.,S.T.L. And now a few things I want you to know: • Sign up now for Perpetual Adoration in the Divine

Mercy Chapel. There are still openings to offer an hour of your time to Jesus.

• REMINDER that daily Mass is now at 7:00 AM at SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish.

• I have to share with you some of my future plans. I have been granted by the Cardinal, permission to take my sabbatical from February through July 2022. It

has been almost 10 years since I took the last one. It is a six month period to invest in yourself. It needs to have three components: educational, spiritual and leisure. For the educational aspect, I will be in South America for 3 months enhancing my Spanish skills. For the spiritual aspect, I will do a pilgrimage in Spain to the famous shrine of St. James. For the leisure aspect, I will take a road trip to enjoy the beauty of the state parks of the western states. Meanwhile, Fr. Tom Koys will be the administrator and I will keep in touch with him and my staff. I look forward to the enriching time of being away from the busy Parish life. I will miss you, but you will be well taken care of by the familiar priests that have helped us in the past. I have been talking to them to secure all weekend and weekday Masses. I know my knowledgeable and helpful staff will handle everything else in between. When I am away, I ask for your prayers and know that you are in my prayers too.

• This weekend there is a second collection for The Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Please see the bulletin for more information about helping those in poverty.

• Join us for our Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday, November 25th at 9:00 AM.

• Our Parish offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 24th-Friday, November 26th for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen on Monday, November 29th.

• Father Valdi, Father Koys, Deacon Neil and our Parish Staff want to wish everyone a safe & healthy Thanksgiving, filled with all we are Thankful for.

Dear Parishioners,

Thanksgiving is a day for us to “count our blessings” and give thanks to God!

SS. Cyril and Methodius School is thankful for the opportunity to continue educating the children of our parish, even though we still struggle with the effects of the pandemic.

Everyone who is a part of our school is also so very thankful to be a part of the SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish Family. Daily our school receives help from wonderful people whose energy, commitment and generosity are evident. The continual support and guidance provided help us to do our best every day!

On a personal note, I am thankful for the wonderful students, great families, and an outstanding staff who work hard and are a delight to see each day. I am also thankful for the genuine care, concern and love I receive from our entire parish community.

This week, as we all reflect on Thanksgiving, please take time to remember those who will go without food or shelter, those who are sick, and those who have lost a loved one during the year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Mrs. Shirley Tkachuk Principal

Z biurka wikariusza pastora Drodzy Parafianie, W to święto Chrystusa Króla pragnę się z wami podzielić wspaniałym cytatem z J.R.R. Tolkein, gdzie Timothy Gordon otwiera swoją mistrzowską książkę, Republika katolicka, Jak Ameryka zginie

bez Rzymu.

Fr Thomas Koys, M.A.,S.T.L.

do słynnego sanktuarium św. Tymczasem ks. Jesteście zawsze w moim sercu i modlitwach.

9:00 rano.

• Z okazji święta Dziękczynienia biuro parafialne będzie zamknięte od środy, 24 listopada do piątku, 26 listopada. Zapraszamy do biuro już w poniedziałek, 29 listopada.

• Ks. W. Stawiarski, ks. T. Koys i diakon Neil Rogers życzą wszystkim radosnego przeżycia święta Dziękczynienia wypełnienionego wszystkim za co jesteśmy wdzięczni.

WHY ADVERTISE

Page Fourteen SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish November 21, 2021 “United in Faith”

Evangelize: Let’s Fill the Church Next Weekend!

Calling all people who are waiting to come to church just on Christmas – come now – we start Advent next Sunday!

Don’t miss it! Bring your family and friends to hear next Sunday’s gospel about being vigilant. Let us prepare our hearts and minds for Christmas during all four weeks of Advent, and bring those friends and relatives with us who might only come on Christmas day. They miss out on so much grace and wisdom.

People need strength and hope in these dark times. Bring them to Jesus Christ who offers everything we need. He is the King of the Universe, as we celebrate today. All the power of Love comes to us through Him, and through us to our friends and relatives. Evangelization ACTION ideas this week:

1. Come to Mass as often as you can during Advent, starting next Sunday... and bring others with you.

2. Make an extra Advent wreath and bring it and the Advent prayers to someone who is homebound, or to a family that does not normally celebrate Advent. Share your ideas about having hope in Jesus Christ, The Savior of the World.
