Nadu invites applications from candidates pursuing Ph.D. course for attending a ten day ICSSR Sponsored Training Programme on Research Methodology for Ph.D. Research Scholars (SC) of Social Science Education and Allied Disciplines to be held from March 22 31, 2015. The Objective of this training programme is to provide an opportunity to SC Ph.D. scholars in colleges / universities to acquire knowledge, skills and values about various types of researches and methods. It also aims at providing experience to use special computer software to apply statistics in various disciplines of the social sciences. It will also enable the participants to undertake interdisciplinary

empirical investigations. The boarding and lodging, travel expenditure and other local hospitality, will be provided to the selected participants as per ICSSR rules and regulations. Training programme on research methodology for (SC) Ph.D. research scholars in colleges/universities March 22-31, 2015

Concept Note The Objective of this training programme is to provide an opportunity to SC/ST teacher

researchers in colleges / universities and the Ph.D. scholars to acquire knowledge, skills and values about various types of researches and methods. It also aims at providing experience to use special computer software to apply statistics in various disciplines of the social sciences. It will also enable the participants to undertake interdisciplinary empirical investigations. One of the major objectives of this course is to enable them apply the statistical techniques such as factor analysis, factor loading, path analysis etc. The course includes both the theory and practical components of scientific research. It is a trial blazing venture bringing various disciplines such as sociology, psychology, statistics, and computer application to inculcate new behaviours among the researchers.

Eligibility Ph.D. research scholars belonging to SC categories from universities / colleges, those who are

pursuing research in Social Sciences are eligible to apply.

Intake capacity 35 (Thirty Five only) OBC and minority category scholars will also be admitted according to the

norms. A maximum of TWENTY outstation Research scholars will be considered for the proposed programme. No registration fee will be collected from the participants.

Selection Process The duly filled in registration form must be accompanied with the following enclosures:

1. A Bona-fide Certificate from the University/ Institute in which he/she has enrolled for Ph.D. 2. A brief note about his/her thesis and its progress. 3. Community Certificates (Caste Certificate from the competent authority). 4. A brief write up about the reasons for his/her participation in the workshop.

The candidates are advised to send the filled in application forms (Application form attached) on or before 16th March, 2015 in the following address.

Important Dates The last date of sending the filled in application would be 16th March, 2015. However, the

candidates for this training programme will be considered on first-cum-first serve basis and the shortlisted applicants would be informed before 16th March, 2015.

Programme Participation Certificate The participants will be provided with the course certificate on successful completion of the

programme.

Food and Accommodation The necessary boarding and lodging facilities will be arranged for the outstation participants in

the university guest house/hostel on sharing-basis depending on the availability or rooms. However, the local participants will be provided lunch during the entire training programme.

Travel Outstation participants shall be reimbursed travel expenses by buses/train in sleeper class on

production of tickets in original by shortest route in line with the ICSSRs norms.

About the Tamil Univesity The Tamil University, a unitary type was established at Thanjavur, on 15th September 1981 by

Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, then the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The very aim of the university is to promote research on Tamil language and literature, history, culture and ancillary disciplines. It also aims at developing the Tamil language as a medium for learning science, technology, medicine etc. It is located at a distance about 8 KMs south west of the town on the Trichirappalli highway. It consists of 21 departments under five faculties namely, Faculty of arts, manuscriptology, Tamil Development, language and Science. It also aims at facilitate and regulate research as well as teaching in the fields like sociology, trible science, culture, music, stage-play, paintings, sculpture, architecture, literature, grammar, linguistics, philosophy, earth science, navigation, siddha medicine, and education.

Department of Education and Management The Department of Education was established in 2007. It is the youngest department in the university. It offers M. Phil. and Ph. D. research courses since 2007. The post graduate course M.Ed. was introduced in 20th Decembert.2012

The university also offers Bachelor of Education course through regular mode. Every year it produces 100 B.Ed. Graduates. In addition to this, through distance mode it offers B.Ed. course for 500 working teachers. Both B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses have been recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education, India. Since the establishment of the department, it has produced M. Phil., Ph.D., 100 M.Ed. 1500 B.Ed. Degree holders.
