The Moorjock December 2011

A happy new year to all our readers

There is not a lot of news this month as a result of a quiet festive period so the format of this

newsletter will be ‘the month in pictures’.

Aqua Nova Water Bears were kind

enough to nominate us and the

Yorkshire Air Ambulance as their

charities for funds raised in their

Christmas Tree Taxi Service at the

Dolby Forest Visitor Centre over

the two weekends running up to

Christmas. For a small donation

they ferried the tree to your car

with a Newfoundland dog and cart.

The four days raised £425.95 for

the team.

In addition to the

fundraising the

weekends raised much

goodwill between the

team, Aqua Nova and

the Forestry

Commission.

We hope to see this as

an annual event and are

hoping to plan some

social events with the

group once the weather

improves. Thanks to all

those who helped.

Presentation of cheques this month from

fundraising by the kind people of Goathland

through this summer. Deserving causes –

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue

Team, the Fire Fighters charity and the Great

North Air Ambulance. A genuine big thank you

for the on-going support.

Team fundraising walks

2012

Monthly update

The dates for our first two walks of 2012 have been

published as follows:

Falcon flyer – Saturday 17th

March

Ravenscar coastal half marathon – Sunday 29th

April

Please put all these dates in your diaries now. Remember

we need 13 staff to man the base, control, vehicles and

sweep the route before we cover any check points.

We have approached a number of companies for

sponsorship but perhaps team members could suggest

other opportunities? The Raven Hall hotel is sponsoring

part of the costs of the Falcon Flyer.

Please advertise the events to friends, colleagues, clubs and

organisations.

Remember entry fees are refunded if individuals raise more

than £25 sponsorship for the team.

Entry forms for the Falcon Flyer and Ravenscar half

marathon are available on the web site. In December we

had 46 entry forms downloaded for the FF and 28 for the ½

marathon, Neal also handed lots out at a walk he organises.

Let’s hope they all turn into entries

Well done to Paul, Richard and Steve on

successfully completing their call-out

assessment this month. Although looking at

the picture you would not know it, there again

it was taken in driving rain and we had not told

them at that point.

Go Outdoors York organised a charity raffle for us on

Christmas Eve and allowed us to collect in the shop

reception. The day raised £428.33 on the day and

they are keen to help with other events through the

year. As always thanks to all those who helped at both

short notice and during a hectic holiday period.

Our latest supporter is shown on the left of the page

and should still be stood there patiently collecting.

The Mountain Equipment Fitzroy Belay Jackets provided by

MRE&W have arrived. If eligible, and If you have not yet

received yours then Drew will be issuing them over the

next few training events. The jacket is being modelled by

Stuart to the right of this article (wide angle lens courtesy

of John Hart).

The drugs and dressing bags now have pulse oximeters in

them. The guys on the recent casualty care course have

already been trained. The rest of the casualty carers will be

trained at the next convenient time.

We have a new protocol for securing the base; please

ensure you are familiar with it if you are locking the

building.

The new team website http://www.srmrt.org.uk has been

live since early December and is getting an average of 103

visits per day. We have had a number of contacts via the

site with requests to join the team, praise from the party

we searched for around Jugger, an ask for us to present to

a scouting event in York in March and an ex RAF MR team

member after swapping memorabilia (in Roger’s capable

hands).

We are still looking to co-opt an equipment officer and

medical adviser please see the email from Roger dated the

15th

of December.

MJ51 has recently had the sills and wheel arches re sprayed

and is looking smart again. Please help us to keep it that

way. Thanks to Pete for organising.

The callout at Jugger Howe created some fabulous

publicity. I suspect we stole some of Woodhead’s thunder

who had an article scheduled to go out the following day.

The BBC estimate the Look North piece was seen by

870,000 viewers in the early evening news and 338,000 in

the late news. We were front page in the SEN and made a

number of other regional papers.

Please do not forget to submit your, constructive, training

feedback forms to Russ and the TSC. Simply drop them in

the ‘coffin’ located in the training room at the base.
