The Board held its 55th meet- ing at Raj Bhavan here today which was chaired by Governor, N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the Board. “The Board reviewed the to- date progress of all its major proj- ects which are presently underway and took several important deci- sions for further improving the management and enlargement of infrastructure facilities for the Yatra to the holy Cave shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi,” a Board spokesman said. The meeting was aended by E Sreedharan, Dr S S Bloeria, Dr Ashok Bhan, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, H L Maini, Justice (Retd) Permod Kohli and Maj Gen (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, all Board members, and Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Dr M K Kumar and B Mohandaas, Additional CEO’s of the Board. The Board took stock of status of under-construction residential complexes, operationalization of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Multi- Specialty Hospital at Kakryal and seing up of Nursing College and Medical College. The Board was informed that work on putting in place various wayside facilities and completion of electrification and water supply works along the new track between Katra and Adhkuwari is in full swing and shall be operational by ending May. The Board was informed that the construction of a Temple Com- plex, including a queue system and a large waiting hall, to facilitate the pilgrim’s ‘Darshan’ of the Holy Cave (Garbh Joon), is at its final stages of completion. The work on the entire Temple Complex at Adhkuwari shall be completed by end April this year. Regarding stabilization of Trikuta mountain slopes against falling stones and land-slides on the track, Governor asked CEO for taking timely action to start work on identified vulnerable sites. Other projects that were dis- cussed in the meeting include installation of a state-of-the-art multi-purpose audio system along the entire track from Banganga to Bhawan, construction of Bhairon Ghati passenger ropeway, construc- tion of Trikuta Hills material ropeway from Siar Dabri to Bhawan, affores- tation activities undertaken by the Board, construction of multipurpose sports stadium at Katra, scholar- ships to children, construction of sewage treatment plants, estab- lishing accommodation complexes at Jammu and Katra, erection of wire mesh fencing along the entire tracks, widening and re-tiling of the vulnerable stretches of the track for enabling the pilgrims to walk with greater ease. KHALID GUL Islamabad (Anantnag), Feb 24: Patients are put to high risk at South Kashmir’s lone Mater- nity and Children Hospital (MCH), located in a congested area as ‘political’ interference is preventing authorities from shiſting it to a more spacious and accessible premises at Jan- glat Mandi here. The decision to shiſt the MCH from Sherbagh area was taken last year by the health authorities as soon as District Hospital Anantnag at Janglat Mandi was transferred from old building to the newly con- structed one. The order in this regard was issued by Directorate of Health Services to Chief Medi- cal Officer (CMO) Anantnag in April last year but, ten months on, it is yet to be implemented. The MCH building has been declared unsafe by Fire and Emergency Services and R&B departments. The operation theatre was also gued due to power short circuit last month, making it fur- ther unsafe. The hospital authorities, though, last month initiated the relocation of maternity section but aſter stiff opposition from some politicians, the authori- ties were forced to shiſt it back. Sources in hospital admin- istration revealed that political workers of some politicians own chemist shops outside the hospital premises and fear that their business will get affected once the hospital is completely shiſted. “The hospital authorities initiated the relocation to the old District Hospital building at Janglat Mandi but aſter only a week they succumbed to pressure from politicians and shiſted it back,” sources said. They said equipments and machinery including that needed in operation theatres was ferried back during night. “The shopkeepers hired vehicles on their own to transfer the machinery,” sources said . The hospital caters to entire south Kashmir as well as Chenab and Pirpanjal valleys. The 70-bedded hospital caters more than 20,000 patients in out-patient department (OPD) and about 5000 indoor patients monthly. With hospital lacking ade- quate space locals here are for shiſting of the hospital. “The hospital is devoid of proper sanitation and the wards always stink that can result in an outbreak,” say the residents. They said that Sherbagh locality is much congested with narrow roads witnessing frequent traffic jams. “The preg- nant women and ailing children find it difficult to reach to the hospital in time,” said the resi- dents. The South Kashmir Civil Soci- ety (SKCS) has accused leaders of political parties for playing politics over the issue. “The politicians, for safe- guarding their vote banks, are playing with the lives of people. This is a humanitarian issue and the hospital should be shiſted without further delay,” said Rao Farman Ali, spokesperson of SKCS. “We are not against busi- ness community but are con- cerned about the sufferings of the patients,” said Farman. Medical Superintendent, Dr Abdul Majeed Mehrab, however, denied any political intervention in the shiſting of the hospital. “The wards of the old build- ing of District Hospital at Janglat Mandi have to be renovated and equipped with two special new- born care units before we shiſt there,” said Mehrab. He said as soon as this is done, they will immediately leave for Janglat Mandi. Asked why the hospital was shiſted back aſter relocating it, Mehrab said, “We had shiſted it temporarily aſter the operation theatre was damaged in a fire incident.” Chief Medical Officer Anant- nag, Fazil Ali Kochak said, “The MCH will be shiſted to the old District Hospital building once the new building becomes 300- bedded.” Attachments in ICDS cancelled Jammu, Feb 24: All types of attachments in ICDS have been cancelled with immediate effect, an offi- cial circular, issued here today, said. The controlling offi- cers and DDOs have been asked to implement the instructions and all the Programme Officers direct- ed to submit compliance report by February 25, it added.
