ISRO LATEST TRENDZ
PSLV-C36 Successfully Launches RESOURCESAT-2A Remote
Sensing Satellite
In its thirty eighth flight (PSLV-C36), ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle successfully launched
the 1235 kg RESOURCESAT-2A Satellite today morning (December 07, 2016) from Satish Dhawan
Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. This is the thirty seventh consecutively successful mission of
PSLV.
After PSLV-C36 lift-off at 10:25 am IST from the First Launch Pad with the ignition of the first stage,
the subsequent important flight events, namely, strap-on ignitions and separations, first stage
separation, second stage ignition, payload fairing separation, second stage separation, third stage
ignition and separation, fourth stage ignition and cut-off, took place as planned. After a flight of 17
minutes 05 seconds, the vehicle achieved a polar Sun Synchronous Orbit of 824 km height inclined at
an angle of 98.725 degree to the equator (very close to the intended orbit) and 47 seconds later,
RESOURCESAT-2A was separated from the PSLV fourth stage.
After separation, the two solar arrays of RESOURCESAT-2A deployed automatically and ISRO's
Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore took over the control of the
satellite. In the coming days, the satellite will be brought to its final operational configuration
following which it will begin to provide imagery from its three cameras. The data sent
by RESOURCESAT-2A will be useful for agricultural applications like crop area and crop production
estimation, drought monitoring, soil mapping, cropping system analysis and farm advisories
generation.
Like its predecessors RESOURCESAT-1 and 2, RESOURCESAT-2A has a unique 3-Tier imaging
system with Advanced Wide Field Sensor (AWiFS), Linear Imaging Self Scanner-3 (LISS-3) and
Linear Imaging Self Scanner-4 (LISS-4) cameras. The AWiFS provides images with a sampling of 56
NEWS LETTER VOL:1 ISSUE 1 2016 JULY-DEC
metres, a swath of 740 km and a revisit of 5 days whereas the LISS-3 provides 23.5 metre sampled
images with 141 km swath and a repitivity of 24 days. LISS-4 provides 5.8 metre sampled images
with 70 km swath and a revisit of 5 days.
With today’s launch, the PSLV has yet again demonstrated its reliability. The total number of
satellites launched by India’s workhorse launch vehicle PSLV including today’s RESOURCESAT-2A
has now reached 122, of which 43 are Indian and the remaining 79 are from abroad.

NEWS LETTER VOL:1 ISSUE 1 2016 JULY-DEC
Post-independence day posting of the 70th Independence Day
celebrations The sound of Patriotic songs on the loudspeakers or radio awaking you from the sweet early morning
sleep, the parade at Laal Qila telecast on our old forgotten friend – “the reverend Doordarshan” who comes
alive only on few occasions or The energetic, enthusiastic preparation of school kids for attending the flag
hoisting ceremony - is it the pack of sweets, or innocent patriotism in them that drives these little angels to
be a part of independence day celebrations? whatever, once we were part of it, today these scenes and voices
and sounds evoke a sense of nationalism in us and slowly revive the patriotism somewhere still alive in
us…. & we very much become conscious of the Independence Day celebrations around us. How many of
you share these feelings with me? May be all of my country men, strongly hope so… but as the evening of
independence reaches, slowly the revived nationalism subsides in the daily chores and problems of life.
Do we not dream of our India as a powerful nation or a super power? Yes, every one of us should
coz we want our children, young brothers and sisters to have a secure, safe and prosperous motherland but
how many of us really contribute to make it one? – is this discussion still not an adornment of symposiums,
conferences and consortia -, restricted only till discussions and planning? That is what I feel.
As an academician I had these thoughts in my mind on 15th August 2016 while I was commuting in
my car towards my college for attending the flag hoisting ceremony, that, will the face of our nation change
if peace and harmony prevails in our great nation? and this peace can be achieved only by transforming a
free India into a spiritual and literate India, spirituality will bring the awareness of what is forbidden and
righteous in the minds of Indians that will prevent us from committing petty immoral acts to heinous crimes
on humanity and literacy will lead to knowledge and skills that will make our young Indians employable and
engaged in productive activity or nation building tasks and here comes the role of teachers, it is the schools
and colleges where the children and youth spend lot of their time and less with their parents belonging to the
generation – lost.
If a teacher has the power to carve out a state from India for the prosperity of its rightful inheritors by
making his vision turn into reality, then I think that the same power lies within every passionate teacher who
can carve out a super power from this largest continent called Asia.
We don’t miss an opportunity to criticize the young generation when any wrong happens in the society due
to one misguided youngster, but believe me it is this young generation in which we find a ray of strong hope,
like a silver lining in the dark clouds , a hope that leads to strong faith because of what they do differently on
occasions like independence or republic day, one such act of Sree Dattha’ Students that differs them from
the ordinary is they spending their independence day with children of Govt. school by appreciating and
rewarding their tiny achievements and making their teachers proud, does it not portray the sprouting of an
ethical, compassionate and concerned India that will build the foundation of a peaceful, strong and literate
super power.
