8. EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

We send our promising players (18 years and older) or coaches for an Exchange

programme to overseas Clubs or Academies, while the overseas players come to us for

the same / other period. There is an Agreement between us, the player and the Club.

SRA must ensure that the player is well conditioned, with good key skills in his position –

so that he can add good value to the Club in terms of their playing level, enthusiasm

and leadership. The player must also have good values and mature enough to adapt

to the new environment and culture.

After our final discussion with the Club, the Club will have a formal interview (Skype or

phone call) with the player. Then the Club provide a formal Invitation letter explaining

specific aspects in more detail. Normally the Club will arrange accommodation / food,

club kit and transport - and we will do the same here. The spending money and flight

costs will be for the player’s account, but assistance can be considered depending on

the needs of the club, player or coach.

The player must be an example on and of the pitch for his team mates and younger

players who will look up to him. He will be a true ambassador for the Club while in his

profession.

Get PPoint of Exchange program on our website. We also have a Recruitment portral

there to assist you.

9. VOLUNTEER COACHING OR MANAGEMENT / SUPPORT STAFF

If you love rugby and want to volunteer in South Africa, this is definitely the project for

you! What’s in it for the volunteer?

• You will get full exposure to our programme and other opportunities that exist.

• We will develop a Development plan for you to ensure that you get the most out

of your experience.

At our Rugby Academy

We run a programme for coaches and support staff to come and intern with us for a 3 -

6 month period. The criteria for applicants are:

• Coaches – minimum tertiary and coaching qualification.

• Support Staff – have experience in your chosen field.

• We require our volunteers to undertake a minimum of 20 hours work per week.

This will be in an observational, coaching and general support capacity.

Schools

You will work alongside our coaches and students. We assist schools so that the

standard of conditioning and skills for each age group is reached - while players have

fun, and learn about certain rules and values of rugby. Our aims are:

- Provide well-qualified coaches, acting as role models and dads of young boys.

- Provides a high quality skill program, allowing players to develop specific skills to

play rugby at a high level.

- Use coaching to help develop character (life coaching).

The Rugby Academy provides a coordinator for the season for all arrangements. He will

do pre-planning with the school, and provide ongoing support. Coaches are placed

with certain teams, at specific times, according to needs. Our coaches are involved in

coaching and matches during the season - and also act as referees. We provide

weekly training to our coaches - ensuring that they are timely, tidy and well-prepared.

We will continuously communicate with the school and coaches on arrangements. We

monitor and evaluate the coaches through regular visits.

The school is responsible for the organization of rugby. The school provides the

necessary equipment to the coaches. They provide a coordinator (rugby - organizer)

for the season. He/she also acts as mentor for the coaches and handles in-service

training or introduction beforehand. The coordinator signs coaches’ logs, and report

problems immediately.

10 SCHOLARSHIPS

Full scholarships are provided per year for a 20-week course to a player coming from

overseas. The scholarship will be awarded to the player that is deemed to be most likely

to become a professional player. It will cover all costs for the player (incl. rugby and

academic programme), excl. accommodation and food costs. The recipient can stay

at the Academy campus for a nominal rental fee. Scholarships are also offered where

50% of the course costs are met.
