Good afternoon everyone,
Today we welcome Runcorn Town to the Royal British Legion Stadium. Thanks to the Runcorn Town supporters
and officials for travelling down today and I hope you have a safe journey home.
With just 4 games left of the season the importance of the game cannot be underestimated, we know exactly
what we have to do between now and the end of the season.
“iIportance of the game cannot be underestimated”
Runcorn will head into the game with no fear, they sit comfortably in mid table and have no real pressure and
have been playing very good football this season. The reverse fixture back in October was a very poor game for
us, and the scoreline reflected that as we lost 5-0. We have come a long way since that and are learning from our
mistakes, and taking that to training.
“They sit comfortably in mid table and have no real pressure…”
Our victory on Tuesday was pleasing and thoroughly deserved. I’m hoping we take that same desire and commit-
ment into today’s game. We’ve played better and lost, so it is pleasing that we have found the knack of winning
again. We have to carry on going until we know we are mathematically safe, but that is the only aim for the rest
of the season.
“Our victory on Tuesday was pleasing and thoroughly deserved.”
Let’s hope for another good performance and result and push on for the ‘magical 40 points’.
Up the Gate!
Ben Fletcher (Sponsored by S.E.I. [Maintenance] LTD)
Superb young shot stopper that had a tremendous season last year. He kept numerous clean sheets
and played every single minute of every single game. 2015/16 will be his 3rd season with the club
where he’ll be looking to continue his fine form.
Nathan Trout (Available for sponsorship)
Nathan moved to the Fylde coast from Liverpool. A ball winning centre half that has a big presence
on the pitch, he’ll be hoping to force his way into the team and make his position his own.
Alex Colquhoun (Available for sponsorship)
After a short spell at the club last season, Alex has returned to the club hungry and determined to
play on a regular basis. He showed signs of quality last season and will be looking to cement his place
in the 2015/16 season.
Brett Ferguson (Sponsored by Service Solutions Direct Ltd)
One of the main characters within the changing room, “Channy” as he is called, always has stories to
tell, consistently produced good displays during last season and got on the score sheet on numerous
occasions. A very adaptable player that has made a huge impression on all within the club. Winner of
Clubman of the Year 2014/15.
Andy Richards (Available for sponsorship)
A club stalwart! ‘Rico’ as he is known, has been with the club for many seasons and has become a
linchpin of the side. His performances and changing room experience has played a vital role in recent
success. A player with many superstitions that is well liked at the club.
Josh Westwood (Sponsored by Mark Ashmore)
Josh was a rock at the heart of defence during last season. He produced some fine individual displays
and chipped in with a few headed goals. A quiet individual but very popular player that lets his feet,
or head do the talking. Josh is also adaptable to play up front.
Mike Hall (Available for sponsorship)
Mike was only with Gate briefly last season but his knowledge and experience of the game was bene-
ficial to all that played alongside him. He was influential in his performances and will be looking to
have the same impact throughout the 2015/16 season.
Conah Bishop (Available for sponsorship)
Conah is one of the youngest players in the squad and plays on the right side of midfield. He has the
pace to run at the opposition and can also score goals. He is a great addition to the team.
Joe Noblet (Available for sponsorship)
Joe had a spell with Gate a few seasons ago, and returned under the new management of Danny
Penswick. He is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal and will be sure to add goals to the
squad.
Alex McKendrick (Available for sponsorship)
Alex has been at the club for a number of seasons, first arriving under the stewardship of ex
manager Russ McKenna. His work rate and willingness to do the unfashionable jobs in a
game have been hugely important to the team. Injury put a halt to his 2014/15 season but
he’ll be looking to come back a stronger player this season.
Billy McKenna (Available for sponsorship)
The flying winger missed a large part of last season due to injury but is looking to make the
right midfield position his own. A popular player within the changing room that can have a
big influence on games when in the mood.
Antony Stayte (Available for sponsorship)
Stayte is a great addition to the squad, who brings experience from his time at AFC Fylde
and from teams in a higher tier. He knows how to organise and motivate his team mates
and is very good at holding the ball up.
Ashley Rowley (Sponsored by TravelCare World)
Ash joined Gate towards the end of last season, and impressed in the time he played. He
scored a crucial equaliser at home to Congleton Town and will be looking to have an impact
this season.
Danny Penswick (Sponsored by Bill White)
Danny is the manager and captain of the club. He first joined midway through the 2013/14
season and soon established himself as a leader and highly influential player. His game un-
derstanding and levels of performance have seen him become a focal point of the team.
Mark Buchan (Available for sponsorship)
Mark models himself on Ally McCoist. A fiery Scot that knows where the goal is. His work-
manlike performances often go unnoticed, but he scored some valuable goals during last
season. An influential player both on and off the pitch and will be a key player during this
season.
Aaron Clarke (Available for sponsorship)
Aaron was part of the Kirkham and Wesham squad which was victorious at Wembley in
2008. Unfortunately for Aaron, he picked up an injury the week before the final so didn’t
take part in the game. A quick striker who possesses skill and eye for a pass and can also
play in behind the striker in attacking midfield. Aaron will be looking to cement a spot up
top and to fire Gate up the table.
Ryan Tanser (Available for sponsorship)
Ryan joined the club in October and came off the bench in the 5-2 defeat away at Atherton
Collieries. He scored his first goal for the club on his first full debut in our 5-1 win over
Maine Road in the MEN United cup. He will bring goals to the team for sure.

Squires Gate continued their poor
form beating beaten 3-0 by Bootle
on Tuesday night.
Though Gate had long spells of pos-
session throughout the game it was
the visitors who made their chances
count.
Both teams made a bright start to
the game with Bootle having an
early corner cleared by Gate. The
home teams first chance of the
game came after eight minutes after
a great run from Stayte. But nobody
could meet his cross at the far post
and the ball went out.
The same would happen a minute
later this time with Tanser and Riley.
Riley doing the hard work to win the
ball back from the fullback before
his cross fell just behind Tanser.
Gate played with a lot more confi-
dence with the ball than in previous
weeks. Ryan Riley was the next to
take aim but his shot bobbled into
the arms of Jones in net. Gate again
having lots of the ball, but struggling
to find the net.
It would be Bootle next to take aim
with Josh Woods having to be alert
to tip over a shot.
The regulating corner was cleared by
Gate before Bootle fired over the bar.
Ryan Tanser had the chance to break
Gate goal scoring duct after doing all the
hard work to flick the ball over his head,
he poked the ball wide.
Bootle ended the first half the better of
the two teams with Josh Woods having
to be alive to tip over the ball. Ryan Riley
was the flagged offside down the other
end as the half came to an end.
Bootle opened the scoring in the 55th
minute. A moment of quality from the
visitors scoring straight from the
Freekick. Four minutes later Jamie Gib-
son had a golden chance to level. But his
header at the back post was over. Gate
made three changes to try and force a
reply. But a couple of minutes after Boo-
tle made it 2-0.
Gate caught napping at the back allowed
the winger in to poke past Woods at his
near post.
As Gate pushed on for a goal the visitors
made it three. Gate with several men
forward were caught on the break and
punished. Sub Dom Marie breaking free
before slotting past Woods to seal the
points for Bootle.
Gate will be looking to bounce back when
they travel to title chasing Runcorn Linnets
on Saturday.

Gate applied themselves well
throughout the game and showed
yet more improvement as in recent
weeks. But again for Gate they were
missing that instinct in front of goal
to put away the several chances
they had.
Gate made three changes with Ben
Fishwick making his first start for the
club and Ben Fletcher returning in
goal. Joe Noblet also returned to the
team in place of Jamie Gibson, who
was unavailable.
The homeside started the game as
Gate would have expected. They had
plenty of early chances to get the
ball forward quickly whilst Gate
looked organised and kept the
threat from Linnets to a minimum.
Gates first chance of the game came
after 13 minutes. Jake Higham did
well down the left hand side and
found the run of Tanser, but his shot
was wide of the post. Linnets best
chance of the half came after 21
minutes, striker Steve Jones curling
the ball narrowly wide of the post
from outside the box. Linnets again
threatened Gates goal but a after a
six yard box scramble, Gate finally
managed to clear the ball.
Linnets would open the scoring just be-
fore the half hour mark. Gate let down
after switching off allowing Steve Jones
to score from a corner, the striker not
closed down quick enough. The goal a
harsh one on a hard working Gate who
didn't deserve to be 1-0 down at half
time.
Ryan Tanser had the chance to level for
Gate after the break. He used his pace to
drive at the Linnets defence and run
clear. His shot was saved a spilled by
Porter in net but Porter reacted quickest
to collect the ball before Tanser could
react.
Perhaps the turning point in the game
when the home side were awarded a
penalty. Joe Noblet harshly penalised for
using his arms to jump and head the ball
away. But Gate would be saved when
Linnets defender Michael White fired
the ball over the bar from the spot!
Soon after that Steve Jones tried his luck
again, this time from outside the box.
The striker firing over on the volley di-
rect from the goal kick.
Gate would again be left frustrated after
the referee awarded another soft penal-
ty. This time Josh Westwood was penal-
ised for a trip after Ryan Cox turned
around him
This time White would make no mistake
and chose the opposite side to put Linnets 2
-0 up.
Gates best chance came on the hour mark.
Billy McKenna with a golden chance after
Josh Westwood burst forward fro defence.
But McKenna was closed down quickly by
Porter to deny the winger.
Ben Fletcher did well to deny Ryan Cox on
75 minutes with a superb save despite Cox
being flagged offside. Billy McKenna again
had a superb chance to get a goal back for
Gate. Jake Higham did well to win the ball
back on the edge of Linnet's box and play
through McKenna. He was one on one but
caved under the pressure and fired over the
bar.

JAMES MCSHANE
Plays in the No. 10 role just
behind the striker. The expe-
rienced attacker is well
known around the league.
A loyal servant to the club,
McShane has been at Town at
several years and has always
been up there in their goal
scoring charts.
PAUL SHANLEY
The forward is head and
shoulders Town’s best player.
Picking up 19 MOM awards so
far this season, the captain
will be a threat to Gate.
He’s full of pace and never
knows when to give up, he
will be the one to watch espe-
cially with bagging 25 goals in
49 games this season.
DANIEL LEVER
The young keeper has been
brilliant every time I’ve seen
him. Athletic and possesses a
good kick. He will be hard to
score against today.
He has played every game so
far this season and picked up
3 Man of the Match awards.

DUG-OUT WATCH: Simon Burton It was announced mid March that Simon was going to be stepping down as first team manager at the end of
the season. He has been in charge for 7 years and has achieved a lot with the club. He was appointed manager
in 2009/10 when the club was in the West Cheshire League, guiding the club to third place and promotion to
the NWCFL. He achieved a second successful promotion from the First Division and has been consistent among
the leading clubs in the Premier Division. As well as the league achievements, he has taken the club to the last
16 of the FA Vase and the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Runcorn Town are currently 9h in the NWCFL
Premier Division and have netted 77 goals this
campaign. Gate media manger Mark Ashmore
takes a look at their main threats and the players
that have played a big part this season.
Here is a little bit of information about the ones to
watch.

Squires Gate picked up a vital
three points at fellow strugglers
Silsden.
Goal either side of half time for
Gate cancelled out an early Han-
cock opener for the home side.
Gate started the game very well
and the returning Billy McKenna
got at the homeside early. He al-
most found Tanser after a mazzy
run down the wing but Silsden did
well to clear. That would be the
wingers last involvement in the
game as he pulled up after that
run with his hamstring.
Unfortunately for Gate, the home
side opened the scoring on 20
minutes. A great save from Trout
in net but he spilled it towards the
path of Hancock who chipped the
ball over Trout to open the scor-
ing.
Gates heads seemed to drop hav-
ing conceded the goal. Though you
could always see something else
was coming in the game.
Gate would equalise just two
minutes before half time. Possibly
the perfect time to find the net,
Jamie Gibson headed in from a Joe
Noblet corner for Gates first goal in 5
games.
Gate came out for the second half and
set out with a high tempo and looked
buoyed by the half time team talk. We
could have gone ahead on 50 minutes
when the home keeper Hall misjudged
the bounce of the ball over his head.
Luckily for the homeside he reacted
quickest to scramble on top of the ball
with Tanser and Noblet closing down.
Gate wouldn't have to wait long before
they had another chance. This time
though they made it count! Joe Noblet
curling the ball into the box but that was
cleared. Noblet picked up the loose ball
and fizzed it across the box. Sub Ben
Fishwick was waiting at the back post to
guide the ball into the back of the net
with his knee!
Josh Westwood was unlucky on 70
minutes not to add to Gates lead. The
home keeper producing a superb save to
deny Westwood at the far post with a
finger tip save.
As the homeside pushed for the equalis-
er, Gate looked happy to see out the
win. With some many men pushed for-
ward for the homeside, Gate found the
chance to Courbet attack on several
occasions. .
Gates best opportunity came 3 on 1 but
Stayte chose to try and chip the keeper
instead of squaring for the waiting Tanser
or Noblet.
The win moves Gate out of the relegation
zone temporarily with other having games
in hand.
Gate will next be in action on Saturday
when they host Runcorn Town in another
must win game.

Mond Rangers established themselves as a solid mid-table team and it was not until the 1991–92 season that they won their first silverware as they
won the West Cheshire Bowl as well as finishing a respectable sixth place finish in Division 2. The following season they finished third in the league and
reached the Bowl final, and improved again the following season by finishing third in the league, and regaining the Bowl.
Promotion was achieved in 1994–95 when they finished second in the league. They also reached the Final of the Cheshire Amateur Cup but lost 2–1 to
Poulton Victoria in a match played at Prenton Park, Tranmere. Apart from a 5th placed finish in 1996–97, the club were perennial strugglers in Division
One, and were relegated for the first time in their history in 2001–02.
The 2004–05 season saw success return to the club with the first team finishing as runners up in Division Two, winning the Runcorn Senior Cup and
reaching the final of the Cheshire Bowl again.
Before the start of the 2005–06 season, the club changed their name to Runcorn Town. A decision was also taken to improve facilities at the club with
a view to joining the North West Counties League, but the club suffered a heartbreaking relegation at the end of this season, slipping into the relega-
tion zone for the first time on the last day of the season. The following season the club won Division Two for the first time in the club's history and
were promoted. The 2007–08 season was probably the most successful in the club's history. The club won the Runcorn Cup, were runners up in the
Pyke Cup, and finished third in Division 1, which remains the club's joint highest ever finish. They followed this with a 4th place finish in 2008–09and
another third place finish in 2009–10.
In June 2010 the club, having added floodlights to their home ground, applied to join the North West Counties Football League and after approval from
the league and The Football Association officially joined after the League's AGM in Mid June.

took Gate just five minutes to get the scoring underway the inform Jack Sowerby past two men with ease to fire
in to make it 15 goals for the season. Gate seemed to be playing with a swagger and confidence that has been
evident all season for them. Good work from Winger Dunn down the left almost created a second for Gate but
his cross found the keepers gloves. Jack Sowerby could have had a second soon after but he chose to take an-
other touch instead of shooting and the keeper collected. Into the 28th minute Danny Penswick found himself
with a goal scoring chance on the edge of the box but just struggled to get the ball out of his feet, luckily for
Gate Alex Murphy was just behind him to take the ball off his toes and score Gate second of the game. The
home side were not without chances in the first half though, their best chance coming just after Gate had
scored their second but the home side could only find the post. It was Harry Dunn who again attacked Town
down the wing his cross was inch perfect to find Alex Murphy on the penalty spot to volley home for his second
and Gates third of the afternoon.
Into the second half and it took Gate just 2 minutes to add another, fine work by Harry Dunn through the mid-
dle of the park, who in turn found Jack Sowerby for the striker to score his second and Gate's fourth of the
match. The ever lively Harry Dunn again linked up well with Jack Sowerby for the latter to score his third of the
game and his seventeenth of the season. Alex Murphy could have had his hatrick shortly after but his drive from
the edge of the box was just tipped over by the keeper. Good work again from Harry Dunn on the left, whose
performance deserved a goal, his cross into the box took a nasty deflection from the Runcorn defender who
scored the unfortunate own goal. With a six goal lead Gate look comfortable but as the second half went on
Runcorn looked to get back into the game. A ten minutes of madness for Gate occurred after their sixth goal
with the home side pulling two goals back. First Chris Lawton scored from the corner after Gate had cleared off
the line and Fletcher had saved well. Then ten minutes later Ross Davies hit the post and was first to the re-
bound to score Runcorn's second. But Gate weren't done scoring for the day and added a seventh late on sub

It was the visitors Runcorn Town who made the better start to the game having plenty of possession of the ball but not
really threatening the Gate backline. The first half was halted on 15 minutes when the referee was taken ill. Luckily Premier
League official Michael Salisbury was present watching in the crowd after his game was called off earlier in the day. After a
quick discussion between the three men it was agreed he would run the line with the linesman taking over officiating the
remainder of the game. The stoppage in play seemed to do Gate the world of good and they went on to dominate the rest
of the first half. Gate had a succession of corners but couldn't capitalise from any of them. Mark Buchan was sent through
when Josh Kay floated a lovely ball over the top of the defence but Buchan pulled his shot wide of the far post. Gate were
pilling on the pressure at the 30 minute mark with a goal looking ever more likely for the home side. The pressure would
pay off in the 35th minute when Harry Dunn was fouled in the corner of the box. Alex Murphy would step up to convert the
penalty to put Gate deservedly 1-0 up. That's how the first half would finish with Gate 1-0 up and very much in control, with
Fletcher in goal for Gate not really being tested throughout the half.
The second half started well for Gate with Josh Kay beating two men but his shot went way over the bar. Billy McKenna had
a chance soon after but his pile driver could only find the edge of the post. Despite having early chances Gate struggled to
really control the second half with alot of wayward passing from all areas of the pitch. Runcorn showed better pressure and
pressed the ball alot more in the second half but didn't really have any impact up front to worry Gates defence. Gate per-
haps made it harder for themselves loosing the ball to silly things and bad passes allowing Runcorn into the game. Billy
McKenna had another good chance just before being substituted but his header fell wide of the post from Alex Murphy's
cross in. Gate had the chance to add a second goal after they were awarded another penalty Harry Dunn again being fouled
on the edge of the box, Murphy would again step up to the set piece but this time Runcorn's keeper would dive the right
way to save the spot kick. On the back of this Runcorn had the chance at the other end to equalise Shanley jinking in and
out of the defence but after good work put his shot wide of the post. Gate would seel the game in the 88th minute good
link up play between Richards and Murphy down the right with the latter latching onto Richards cross to score his and Gates
second of the game to seel the points. The win was somewhat marred in the dying seconds when debutant Josh Kay was
shown a second yellow leading to a red card with seconds to go.
As part of our regular feature, we speak to Runcorn Town fan Edward Smith who gives us his ‘view
from the away end’...
The season is near enough over. What were your expectations before the campaign started, and have you
met these expectations? What would you change to improve next season?
My personal target would have been to finish in top half of the table, last 16 of the FA Vase, as far as possible in
the FA Cup. No we haven’t. For improvements I would try recruit a good manager or try to keep Simon Burton
and find more financial support for the manager.
What has been your most memorable moment/game within your time watching Runcorn Town?
There have been quite a few - probably watching, were the FA Vase Games in 2010 - Eccleshill and Atherton LR,
both Away, we won both games, first season in NWCFL and first in the FA Vase - albeit since then Beating Bar-
row in the FA Cup must be the most memorable for the Club, wish I had been there. For the worse reasons a
memorable moment will be losing Manager Simon Burton at the end of the season.
Last season Gate beat Town 7-2, however it was a 5-1 win for Town
this season. What do you think has been the main reason for the big
difference in results within a season?
Inconsistency with players in both Games/Teams
Which teams have impressed you in the league this season?
Colne, 1874 Northwich and Atherton Colls.
What has been your best result and performance this season?
North Shield Away in the FA Vase - 1 - 1 Draw - after a drive like that tremendous effort, petty we didn't win
the replay.
What Town players do you think will cause the most threat to Gate tonight? Any players that Gate fans
should watch out for?
No comment in case it assists you - albeit I am sure your Manager is well aware of our Danger Player(s)
If you were to sign 3 PL players on a free transfer to Town, who would you sign and why?
Jamie Vardy, Gary Cahill and Gareth Barry - to give the spine for the team, score goals, get us playing and stop
leaking goals!
Have you ever been to Squires Gate before? If so, what was the score?
Don’t think I have every been to Squires gate - although many years ago, (Early 1970's), played in West Lanca-
shire League, cannot recall IF Squires Gate had a team in that league at that time?
If you were manager of a 5 a side team, and you had to pick 3 PL legends and 2 RT players. Who would you
pick and why?
Nev Southall, Paul Gascoigne and Alan Shearer - former Town Players Ryan Wade and Scott Burton ( All on their
day great players - Big Nev to keep clean sheets)
Rob Hornby is a groundhopper based in Nottingham. Each year, Rob and his wife help a different charity by donating 25p for every goal
they see at matches that they attend. Last season they raised £1325.00 for Support Dogs. If you would like to read about Rob ’s football
adventures or donate a small amount to the charities he is fundraising for then visit his blog; aroundthegrounds2015 -16.blogspot.co.uk
First of all, what encouraged you to start your footballing adventures?
In 1990 I had Hodgkins Lymphomia a form of cancer and whilst in hospital whilst on chemo, I saw that local non league club Dunkirk FC
were in the FA Vase for the first time, I felt ok on the Saturday and went along, enjoyed the experience and then carried on going down
there, soon becoming Programme Editor, In 1995 to 2000 I went to Arnold Town FC as Programme Editor and ran a large club shop,
then I got divorced and took a season away from the game as I had moved area. In 2001 I met my wife Hazel and we used to go to Rip-
ley Town FC and I became Programme Editor there, but at the end of that season they folded and I was invited on to the Central Mid-
lands League Committee as Registrar, I then ran the CMFL Groundhops. My 11 year old son has autism and needed a bit more of my
time, so I stepped down from the CMFL Committee for a season and then joined the Notts Senior League, where on 29/30th April I will
be running the 4th and final groundhop for them and again I am Registrar of the League.
What is the best part about non league?
Genuine people you meet round the grounds people who do so much for their community football clubs free of charge
How many grounds have you visited now?
No idea as I did try to count once but as so many clubs I’ve been have gone under, I couldn’t do a proper count, My 11 year old has
been to over 700 different grounds.
Do you have any favourites, and have you visited any obscure grounds?
We go on holiday to Cornwall every year and I must admit I do have a soft spot for the Cornish village
small clubs, some are so small, you don’t expect anything but a roped off field and when you get there
it turns out to be the village hub with a stand and bar etc.
What has been the most memorable moment that you have seen for a club? (Cup wins, etc)
I would have to say not so much club but clubs, having organised groundhops for 14 years, the money
clubs can make as been a godsend to some of them leading to them surviving.
Have you ever watched any games abroad? If not, what would be the first choices on your list?
I’ve never been abroad so I’ve never really looked
If you were to pick a "dream XI" of players that you have seen live. Who would you pick? (teams in brackets)
A good friend of mine is Jermaine Jenas, I used to be head of governors at a Primary School in Nottingham, I ran the school football
team and as a 7 year old, he had so much talent. He often turns up at Clifton All Whites FC games in the Notts Senior League and even
now he still calls me Sir, even though I tell him to call me Rob.
What has been the best goal you have ever seen? From PL to non league?
As I usually see around 400 plus goals a season, its hard enough to always pick one goal a season that stands out, this season I would
say the most memorable one must be Mevagissy v Wadebridge Town where the home side were leading 7-1, when the ball was played
back to the visiting keeper who pumped the ball up field and the ball skidded off the surface and shot straight past a bemused home
keeper. Only ever seen a keeper score twice before that.

LAST SEASON
AFC BLACKPOOL 0
SQUIRES GATE 0
The first half was a very scrappy affair. Harry Dunn had what was probably Gates best
chance of the half but even that couldn't be considering a clear cut chance. The winger
was closed down quickly on the edge of the box Blackpool with 6 men behind the ball
making hard for any of Gates front line to penetrate. Gate reacted to Blackpool's quick
closing down of the front men by switching there play to a more direct approach but
even then they only had one noteworthy chance. Dunn again involved as he was sent
through by Chris Anderson but the winger couldn't latch onto the ball and Blackpool's
keeper was able to collect the ball at the edge of his box. Gate perhaps created the
better attacking chances in the first half but there really wasn't much in it with both
teams looking average.
AFC Blackpool started with a spring in there step in the second half and looked deter-
mined to take the game to Squires Gate. But like the first half the home side didn't really
posses much threat in attack and failed to really test Fletcher in net. But it was Gate who
had the best chance after 10 minutes Mark Buchan with time in the box but his shot
possessed too much power and flew way over the goal. What followed was a good
attacking spell for Gate but both Westwood from the corner and Mckenna, who chose
to shoot rather than pass across goal, missed golden chances to put Gate ahead. It
looked like the home side had taken the lead around the 70th minute but to the home
fans dismay the gaol was ruled out for offside. That's how it would end for the two
teams on a day when a win was necessary for the home side to keep up their fight
against relegation but also would have helped cement Gates top 6 finish the points were
shared.

1992/93 SEASON
We are now well and truly at the business end of the season, and
the weekend's games delivered good and bad news for the title and
relegation contenders in both division.
It's as you were at the top of the Premier Division, with the top four
all winning.
Leaders Runcorn Linnets eased to a 2-0 home win over Squires
Gate, a Steve Jones goal on 29 minutes and a Mikey White penalty
on 56 minutes sealing a result that moves Gate back down into the
relegation drop zone.
In an entertaining game at the XLCR Stadium, Colne won 6-2 against Ashton Athletic,
Jason Hart grabbing a hat trick and Ben Wharton scoring twice, and third placed Ather-
ton Collieries consolidated their position with a 2-0 win over West Didsbury & Chorlton
at Alder House. Brad Cooke and James Kirby scored 11 minutes in and 11 minutes from
the end for Colls.
1874 Northwich prepared for their Monday night Mid-Cheshire Cup Final against
Witton Albion with a 1-0 win over AFC Liverpool, Tyler Edwards scoring the decisive
goal on 66 minutes.
There were mixed emotions at the bottom of the table, with the AFC's, Darwen and
Blackpool both securing good wins in their battle against the drop.
AFC Blackpool ended Congleton Town's great run of results in spectacular style with a 5
-2 win over the Bears at the Mechanics, the highlight being a hat trick from Jack Wil-
liams.
AFC Darwen recorded what could be a crucial 3-0 win over fellow relegation contenders
Alsager Town at the WEC Anchor Ground, thanks to second half goals from Kiel Lons-
dale, Nick Hepple and Kayle Smith.
That result leaves Alsager in second bottom spot, one point ahead of Silsden, who re-
main bottom after they fell to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Cammell Laird 1907.
The Cobbydalers never recovered from conceding goals from Daniel O`Brien and Dan
King in the opening 17 minutes, although Danny Forrest reduced the arrears before half
time.
Second half goals from Arley Barnes and John Beckwith earned Barnoldswick Town a 2-
0 win at Bootle, and two goals from Robert Grimes helped Nelson to an impressive 5-1
