GENERAL COMPETITION GUIDELINES
Calculator
Only one calculator will be allowed for each team member.
Contestants are limited to use calculators that do not have
graphing or programmable capabilities; inspection will
be made before each round starts.
All calculators will be reset before the start of each round.

Only team members actively participating will be allowed to
ask questions.
Answers
Answers should be in simplest form.
Unless otherwise specified, non-integer numerical
answers should be rounded off to four (4) decimal places.
All answers should have appropriate units.
Alternate Member
Teams will be given a chance to switch their alternate
member with a member of the team before the start of each
round if they deem it necessary.
If a student is found to break a rule, that student’s team is
disqualified and immediately eliminated from the contest.
UP Circuit reserves the right to change part of the rules and
regulations to further improve the conduct of the event.
ELIMINATION ROUND
This stage will test the written knowledge, skill and speed of
the students. It is designed to see how many questions they
can correctly answer in a limited amount of time.
Three (3) students per team will take a written examination
individually.
Only students registered as member or alternate for the team
will be allowed to participate.
One (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes will be provided to
answer the given exam.
The exam has three (3) parts: Easy, Average, and Difficult.
Each part is composed of eight (8) questions for a total of
twenty-four (24) questions.
Correctly answered questions will be credited based on
the difficulty. No deductions will be given for incorrect or
unanswered questions.

No discussion will be allowed between participants for the
duration of the round.
As the exam time expires, all papers will be collected by the
proctors.
The score of a team will be the sum of the individual scores
of the members of the team.
The ten (10) teams with the highest scores will advance to
the next round.
In case of a tie, the following rules will apply:
The individual scores of each member of the team will be
compared.
The team with the higher top individual score will
advance to the next round.
If the top individual scores are the same, the next top
individual score will be compared. The rule stated
above will also be applied.
If the method above does not settle the issue, the teams
involved in the tie after applying the previous rule will be
asked to answer a tiebreaker question as a group. After
giving the question, the teams will be allowed to continually
give answers within the allotted time. The team with the
first correct answer will advance to the next round.
Scores of this examination will not be released.
The top three (3) individual participants with the highest
scores will be given special recognition.
FINAL ROUND
The Final Round will consist of questions specially made to
test both the conceptual and technical understanding of the
subject matter. It is designed in a way that the questions
are difficult and tricky that it will need a group with the most
strategy, knowledge, accuracy, teamwork and guts to win.
The Final Round will be the last stage of SquEEEze.
The team will work as a group to answer the questions.
The scores of the teams in the Elimination Round will not be
carried over to the Final Round; hence, their scores will be
reverted back to zero (0).

This round is comprised of forty-eight (48) questions. Each
question must be answered within the time limit. If the
team’s answer is correct, they will be awarded points that
correspond to the question’s difficulty. No deductions will be
given for incorrect or unanswered questions.
DIFFICULTY NUMBER OF QUESTIONS
POINTS PER QUESTION
TIME LIMIT (SECONDS)
EASY 16 1 10
AVERAGE 16 3 30
DIFFICULT 16 6 60
Teams will take turns in selecting the topic and difficulty of
the question (e.g. Team A will select the topic and difficulty for
the first question, Team B will select the topic and difficulty for
the second question, and so on).
The quizmaster will read the question twice. Contestants are
only allowed to write or to use their calculators after the
quizmaster has given the signal “Go” or “Timer starts now”.
Teams who fail to comply will be penalized. The team will be
warned on the first offense; the team’s answer will be void on
the second offense; and the team will be disqualified on the
third offense.
Boards will be provided for the answers. Final answers will
be raised after the timer expires. Only the answer written on
the board will be considered. If a team is caught changing
or still writing their answers after the timer stops, the team’s
answer will be void on the first offense, and the team will be
disqualified on the second offense.
Questions will only be entertained before the quizmaster
reads the next question.
The decisions of the panel of judges will be final.
The round will end after thirty (30) questions are given. Note
that this means eighteen (18) questions from the pool will
remain unanswered.
Teams that have accumulated the highest number of points
at the end of the Final Round will be considered the winners.
The ranking of the teams will also depend on this cumulative
score.
In case of a tie for the top three spots, a best-of-five face-
off will be used as a tiebreaker. The team who will be able to
answer the most number of questions correctly will obtain
the higher rank.
