NATCO Electro-Dynamic DesalterField or refinery: A higher level of desalting performance

    O I L

    Camerons Process Systems combines

more than half a century of crude oil

dehydration and 30 years of field

    and refinery desalting experience to

create a new leading edge crude oil

    desalting process.

    Camerons patented and proprietary

NATCOElectro-DynamicDesalter(EDD) was developed to replace the

    conventional multi-staged desalting

    system. The NATCO Electro-Dynamic

    Desalter accomplishes this task

    by providing multiple stages of

    electrostatic mixing, coalescing and

settling in a single vessel allowing salt

    removal and dehydration efficiencies

    approaching 100%.

    Five proven Cameron process

    technologies were united and

    conveniently combined to provide

the refining industry with the first

    real electrostatic desalting design

    innovation in over a decade.

    The NATCO Electro-Dynamic Desalter

    will provide two-staged desalting

    performance without the excessive

    capital investments or space

    requirements common to these

    systems.

When Japanese refiners embarked upon a long-awaited expansion and upgrading program , they turned to the NATCO

Electro-Dynamic Desalter for state-of-the-art desalting to give them maximum performance and flexibility in meeting future

desalting needs. Over 60% of the desalter s installed in Japanese refinerie s in the past ten years have been supplied by Cameron.

    Electrostatic Fields

    High Voltage Gradient Dispersion

    Five Proven Cameron Technologies

    1 Camerons Dual Polarity Electrostatic

    Dehydrator:

The patented process applies a high

    gradient, sustained DC field between

    pairs of electrodes, while maintaining

a weaker AC field between the electrodes

    and oil/water interface.

    Results:Dramatic improvements over

    conventional AC dehydration.

    2 Camerons Composite PlateElectrodes:

Developed to obtain a gradual electrical

    field.

    Results:Coalescence of the smallest

    of water droplets, while preventing

    sustained arcing from highly conductive

    emulsions.

    3 Camerons Load Responsive

    Controller:

Developed to regulate the flow ofelectrical current and to provide self-

    adjusting electrical power levels for

    optimization of electrostatic coalescence.

    Results:Optimum salt removal over a

wide range of feed stock materials.

    4 Camerons Counter Current Dilution

    Water Process:

Developed to increase dilution water and

    produced water contact.

Results:Reduced dilution water rateswhile providing maximum desalting

    efficiency.

    5 Camerons Electrostatic Mixing

    Process:

    Incorporated to provide multistage

    dilution water and brine mixing.

    Results:Mixing efficiencies approaching

100% while enabling the user to reduce

    dilution water volumes.

Increase operating efficiency while reducing operational expenses

The NATCO Electro-Dynamic Desalter, under a variety of conditions, can:

Retrofit your single-stage system to two-stage desalter

    performance

Increase the levels of salt removal over any other single-vesselprocess

Double the capacity of two-stage systems

Reduce initial capital costs for new installations

Allow higher inlet water cuts during upset conditions while

    maintaining specified effluent requirements

    Improve effluent water quality

Allow for greater operational flexibility by handling a wide

    range of feed-stocks

Decrease chemical consumption Improve mixing efficiency

    Reduce dilution water requirements

    Increase salt removal efficiency

    Require less space

    Provide improved dehydration capabilities

Whether you are upgrading or expanding an existing facility

or designing a new installation, Camerons new and unique

desalting technology could provide you with the means to

minimize installation costs and to substantially reduce operating

    expenses.

Multistage Efficiency Through a Single Vessel

A proven example of the EDD technology by integrating the

five technologies listed on the front page, the typical situation

below involves a flux of 100 BBL/Day and CSA with a crude rise

rate of 0.08 inches/second. The NATCO Electro-Dynamic Desalter

would retain crude oil within the grid section for 188 seconds and

provides nine extraction cycles of mixing/coalescing/settling at a

rate of 21 seconds per cycle. The mixing phase shown is at 35,000

volts. The coalescence phase is shown as the degrading field

responds to the voltage reduction. The settling phase is shown

with the voltage at 16,000 volts.
