1. Installation via Installation Platform (recommended)

The installation platform can only be started when the Microsoft® NET framework is installed. If

the NET framework is not installed the software installation has to be made manually. For the

Spitzenberger &Spies programs SPS Photovoltaic and SPS Inverter Test the NET Framework 3.5

is mandatory.

For the installation of the software administrator rights are required.

For questions regarding the above mentioned items please contact your administrator in

charge.

Insert the installation CD into the drive of your computer.

1.1. Automatic Start

If the option “AutoPlay“ is enabled following window appears:

Left-click “Run install.exe”.

The program „install.exe“ is started with administrator rights. When using Windows 7 the user

account control has to be confirmed accordingly. When using Windows XP the platform is

started directly.

When opening the folder „Open folder to view files“ you are linked to the manual start of the

installation platform.

1.2. Manual Start

When the option “AutoPlay“ is not enabled for the drive open the CD drive via Windows

Explorer.

Double-click the file „install.exe“ in the explorer window.

The program „install.exe“ is started with administrator rights. When using Windows 7 the user

account control has to be confirmed accordingly. When using Windows XP the platform is

started directly.


1.3. The Installation Platform

The available installation options depend on the acquired software.

The installation starts in English language. In the choice “Language selection” you can change

the languages (English/German). The window text changes according to the selected language.

The requested Spitzenberger & Spies programs are installed in the selected language.

The individual modules of the program SPS EMC can be enabled/disabled for the installation.

The choice persists when the installation language is changed.

1.4. Manual Installation of the SPS Programs and Modules

If the NET framework is not installed the installation of programs and modules can be started

manually.

a) Programs:

The workflow is described in the respective chapters.

For the installation please use “setup.exe” in the directory “English”.


b) Modules:

e.g.: EN 61000-4-04 CD drive\EN 61000-4-04\setup.exe

The installation of the modules is always made in English.

The modules must only be installed after the installing the program SPS EMC.

c) System configuration:

SPS488.INI CD drive\inicreate.exe

When finishing the installation of all requested programs and module the file

“inicreate.exe” has to be run.


2. SPS EMC

All acquired modules are suggested for installation. Deselect the modules which are not

required and choose the requested program language.

2.1. Program Installation

Left-click the button „SPS EMC installation“.

a) Read the message window and make your choice.

With the button “Cancel” the installation is aborted and you get back to the installation

platform.

With the button „OK“ the program installation is started..

b) The start window of the installation indicates which program is due for installation. Please

click “Next”.

c) The following window indicates the software license. After having read and accepted check

the box and click “Next”.


d) Fill in the user information. The serial number is noted down in the delivery note and on the

installation CD. Click “Next”.

The installation can only be continued by input of the serial number. If you mistyped the

serial number an error message appears. Close the message window with “OK”. When the

serial number is typed correctly the installation is continued.

� No serial number / wrong serial number:

e) Double-check the data and start the installation to your hard disk by pushing the button

„Install“.

f) The progress window appears.


g) After having completed the installation correctly the completion window appears.

Push the button “Finish” for finishing the program installation and starting the installation of

the modules.


2.2. Modules for SPS EMC

Before the start of the module installation following message window appears:

You can cancel the installation with No.

You can start the installation with Yes.

The installation of the modules cannot be aborted.

During the installation a message window indicates which module currently is being installed.

After completion of the module installation the system configuration is carried out.

Subsequently, the correct completion of the installation of the program and the modules is

confirmed by a message window. Close the window with the button “OK”.


3. SPS SignalManager


Select the requested program language and left-click the button „SPS SignalManager

Installation“.

Following message window appears:

The program installation is made as described in chapter 2.1, clause b...g.

After completion of the installation the system configuration is carried out.

Subsequently, the correct completion of the installation is confirmed by a message window.

Close the window with the button “OK”.

4. SPS Automotive


Select the requested program language and left-click the button „SPS Automotive Installation“.



After completion of the installation the system configuration is carried out.




5. SPS Photovoltaic

Select the requested program language and left-click the button „SPS Photovoltaic Installation“

(check whether Microsoft NET Framework is installed).

a) The Microsoft NET Framework is not installed:


Start the installation of the Microsoft NET Framework 3.5 with the button “Yes” and

follow the instructions.

Subsequently the installation of the SPS Photovoltaic Software is called up.

b) The Microsoft NET-Framework is installed:

The installation of the SPS Photovoltaic Software is called up.

5.1. NET-Framework 3.5

The Microsoft NET Framework 3.5 is provided with the installation CD. The installation can be

started directly during the installation of the SPS Photovoltaic Installation.

Start the installation with the button “Yes” and follow the instructions.

After completion of the installation the program SPS Photovoltaic is installed.



The installation starts with following message window:




System configuration is not required for this program.


6. SPS InverterTest

Select the requested program language and left-click the button „SPS InverterTest Installation“.

A test checks whether the required external programs are installed.

a. National Instruments NI-488.2 - V3.0

If the program is an obsolete version or not available at all following message window

appears:

Further action: see chapter 6.1

b. Microsoft NET-Framework 3.5

c. National Instruments Compliance-Package

d. Microsoft ReportViewer

A message window indicating the missing programs appears.

Please note the information regarding the programs (chapters 6.2 ... 6.4).


6.1. National Instruments NI-488.2

For this program the software NI-488.2 version 3.0 or higher, is mandatory. If the program is an

obsolete version or not available at all following message window appears:

Close the message window with “OK”, close the installation platform with the button “Close”

and install the National Instruments Software.

The according upgrade can be downloaded via the National Instruments homepage.

Follow the instructions of the NI software. Please note to select the options in the selection

window „Features“ as shown below..

The choice for NET Framework options depends on the versions installed on your computer.

Minimum requirement: Version 3.5.

In the other windows the default values can be applied.

After the installation of the NI software the computer has to be re-started.

After re-start the installation has to be re-started via the installation platform.

6.2. NET-Framework 3.5

The Microsoft NET Framework 3.5 is provided with the installation CD. The installation can be

started directly during the installation of the SPS InverterTest Installation.


After the completion of the installation the additionally required programs and/or the program

SPS InverterTest are installed.


6.3. Microsoft ReportViewer

The Microsoft ReportViewer is provided with the installation CD. The installation can be started

during the installation of the SPS InverterTest.


After the completion of the installation the additionally required programs and/or the program

SPS InverterTest are installed.

6.4. National Instruments Compliance-Package

The program NI Compliance Package is provided with the installation CD. The installation can be

started during the installation of the SPS InverterTest.


The installation is made by the NI installer.

After the completion of the installation the program SPS InverterTest in installed.



Select the requested program language and left-click the button „SPS InverterTest Installation“.

If the previously mentioned components are installed following message window appears:


The system configuration is not required for this program.

The correct completion of the installation is confirmed by a message window. Close the window

with the button “OK”.

Re-start your computer after the completion of all installations.


7. System Configuration

7.1. Initial Installation

The installation CD contains the file SPS488.ini. This file includes the exact configuration

parameters of your Spitzenberger & Spies System. It is integrated to your computer with the

installation routine „Initialisation file creator Vx.xx“.

This file is required for the programs SPS EMC, SPS Automotive and SPS SignalManager.

Confirm the message window with “Yes”.

The file SPS488.INI is copied in the referring directory.

7.2. Installation of the Software Update

When ordering a software update you are requested to send us your current SPS488.INI. Thus,

we are able to provide the upgrade CD with the upgraded system configuration.

If this file is not available for our software department a standard file will be installed on your

computer. The system configuration has to be made manually via one of the programs.

The completion is confirmed by a message window. Close the window with the button “OK”.


8. Important References for the Use of the Help Menu

The help menu in the Spitzenberger & Spies programs is realized via 32-bit help files. The

required program „WinHlp32.exe“ is not included in Microsoft Windows 7.

Since the release of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 third party developers are not

allowed to distribute this Microsoft product with their programs.

In order to use the help functions this program has to be purchased via the corresponding

Microsoft website (see below).

8.1. Extract of the Microsoft Knowledge Base (Article-ID 917607)

Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) is a Help program that has been included with Microsoft

Windows versions starting with the Microsoft Windows 3.1 operating system. However, the

Windows Help program has not had a major update for many releases and no longer meets

Microsoft's standards. Therefore, starting with the release of Windows Vista and continuing in

Windows 7, the Windows Help program will not ship as a feature of Windows. If you want to

view 32-bit .hlp files, you must download and install the program (WinHlp32.exe) from the

Microsoft Download Center.

8.2. Download Version of "WinHlp32.exe" for Windows 7
