READING goal: Our reading goal for the 2007-2008 school year is to increase the percentage of 8th grade students considered proficient in reading. We will use data from the ITBS to determine proficiency. During the 2006-2007 school year, 60.6 percent of the students in 8th grade were proficient.

We met our reading goal. In 2008, 69.7 percent of the students were proficient. This is an increase of 9.1 percentage points.

APR IMPROVEMENT GOALS: PROGRESS APR IMPROVEMENT GOALS: PROGRESS MATH: Our math goal for the 2007-

2008 school year is to increase the average growth on the ITED math composite score for all students in 9th grade. During the 2006-2007 school year, the average growth (using NSS) from grade 8 to grade 9 was 7.0 points. We will continue to use the National Standard Score on the ITED math section (composite score) to evaluate our progress in math at the ninth grade level.

In 2008, the average growth for students going from grade 8 to grade 9 was 24.5 points (using NSS). We surpassed our goal.

SCIENCE: Our goal for the 2007-2008 school year is to show an increase in the National Standard Score on the Science test of the ITED for grade nine. The ninth graders of 2006-2007 achieved an average NSS of 268.4

We met our goal. In 2008, the average NSS for grade 9 science on the ITED was 273.3. We exceeded our goal in science.

GOALS are developed collaboratively between the school district and SIAC (School Improvement Advisory Committee). Standardized test data (ITBS/ITED) are used to analyze student progress and devise goals for reading, math and science. APR goal setting takes place in the fall during the first SIAC meeting of the year.

20092009 READING GOAL FOR 2008-2009 Our reading goal for the 2008-

2009 school year is to increase the percentage of tenth grade students considered proficient in reading. We will use data from the ITED to determine proficiency. During the 2007-2008 school year, 64.7 percent of the students in tenth grade were proficient. A student is considered proficient when he or she reaches the 41st percentile or greater (NPR) on the Reading Comprehension test of the Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

20092009 MATH GOALS FOR 2008-2009: This year we will focus on grade 8.

Students in grade 8 will see an increase in the average NSS (National Standard Score) for the Math Total portion of the ITBS. In 2008 (tests are taken in February), the students going from grade 7 to grade 8 showed an average NSS increase of 9.7 points on the Math Total portion of the ITBS. We would like to see an increase in that score for this year's 8th grade students.

We will also focus on grade 2. In 2008, the average NSS for grade 2 math total on the ITBS was 166.3. We would like to see the average NSS for grade 2 math total increase.

An ACT cut score for probable post secondary success is 20. Of the 33 students who graduated in 2008, 20 took the ACT.

Of the 20 who took the test, 85 percent achieved an ACT composite score of 20 or greater. This exceeds the state average of 73 percent and the national average of 60 percent.

96.7 percent of students in Springville graduated in 2007. Data reported by the state is a year behind. Our rate far exceeds the state average of 90.49 percent.
