You have probably seen their new garage go up at 420 North, just east of Main Street, in an area that has just been rezoned to permit business use. Bryan and Kaylen Hansen say they are super excited to be opening a repair shop here in Spring City. Bryan has always loved fixing things; his earliest memory is one of helping his dad clean engine parts so he could assemble and test his rebuilt engines. From fixing pedal bikes as a youngster and moving on to lawnmowers, 4 wheelers, tractors and so forth, Bryan knew that being a mechanic was in his blood. Bryan has spent much time in different fields, such as fabrication and welding, oil and tire, auto parts, sales, and of course vehicle repair, and this diverse background has prepared him for his newest venture, establishing Hansen Automotive. Bryan’s hope with this business is not only to provide a service for Spring City residents, but also to offer a down-to-earth honest approach to vehicle repair, while keeping a home town feel and atmosphere. Repairs won’t be limited to just vehicles — he will also work on your toys (4 wheelers), tools (lawnmowers) and anything with a motor. The Hansens are hoping to have the business up and running by mid November. The new building will have two bays with vehicle lifts and one bay for larger repairs, as well as an office with waiting room and restroom. The Hansens would like to personal thank all those that have helped and supported them while pursuing this dream. They look forward to serving you. GIVING THANKS Pausing to Reflect and Appreciate

By Randal B. Thatcher

Thanksgiving Day: a national holiday since Abraham Lincoln officially proclaimed a countrywide day of giving thanks, to be observed on the fourth Thursday of every November. And I, as a typical American, have always celebrated on those fourth Thursdays, each November, in an all-too-typical American manner: Eating to excess, then stretching out on the nearest sofa, to watch some televised NFL football game—any game—until inevitably dozing off.

I’ve always known, however, that there was—or at least should be—a deeper meaning and significance to this national day of gratitude. It just always seemed to get lost, somehow, between those far more conspicuously commercial holidays of Halloween and Christmas. Surely, there is more to this humbler, less flashy holiday, than braving the frenetic madness of a crowded Costco for pumpkin pies and aerosol whipped-cream, then gorging ourselves so shamelessly, before plopping heavily down upon the nearest sofa. Thanksgiving Day seems perfectly situated, within the busy holiday season, to stop, even if only for one day, and allow ourselves time to ponder upon those good things in our lives; opening our eyes to the myriad blessings, joys, and splendors, which surround us every day; and opening our hearts to all the love that permeates our lives from so many sources. When George Washington announced a national day of Thanksgiving, back in 1789, he spoke of a collective gratitude for such intangibles as peace and tranquility and union. Seventy-four years later, when Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day as a new annual holiday, he also mentioned those same three words, but included one more... Harmony. How grateful we should be as a nation—despite whatever political issues may momentarily divide us—to still enjoy relative peace, tranquility, union and harmony. Hopefully we also enjoy those same four blessings in our individual and family lives. I don’t yet know what I’m going to do this month to cultivate those feelings of gratitude... jot down a list of specific blessings; declare my gratitude in some public manner; offer a heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving to a beneficent Being; send a note of thanks to someone who’s been a particular godsend in my life… What I do know is that I will go out of my way to be physically close to family and loved ones; and that I will hold them close. Aesop once said that, “Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.” As I get older (and hopefully a little wiser), it seems like a worthy aim to strive to be a little less petty and puckish, and perhaps a little more noble. And so, if this be my aim—or yours—what better day to begin than on Thanksgiving Day? Happy Thanksgiving!
