Please submit a completed application form, including all documentation and fees, to the Northwest Terrace campus office or apply online at http://www.unbc.ca/apply/undergraduate FNST 304-3 Indigenous Environmental Philosophy Date: June 23 - 30 A seminar exploring Indigenous philosophy, knowledge, contemporary issues and perspectives through a combination of lectures, discussion, and field trips BIOL 333-3 Temperate Rainforest Ecology Field School CRN: 30109 Date: April 27 to May 7 Set on the edge of the Skeena River Estuary, this course will provide an immersive experience in the ecology, dynamics and management of North American coastal rain forests. Exercises will include sampling for forest composition, structure and history. Students will be introduced to interactions between plants and animals, and between forested, aquatic and marine environments, and will be expected to undertake an independent research project. Recommended Prerequisites: Any university course in Ecology, such as UNBC’s BIOL 104, or BIOL 110 / 111; BIOL 201 is preferred. Course Fee: (In addition to tuition & student fees); $575 (to be confirmed), includes accommodation and local travel. Students will prepare their own meals. SPRING/SUMMER COURSES 2020 REGISTER NOW! BIOL 350-3 Ethnobotany Fri: May 29, June 12 and June 26 Time 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Sat: May 30, June 13 and June 27 Time 9:00am - 5:00pm Sun: May 31, June 14 and June 28 Time 9:00am 12:00 noon This course will review traditional plant use worldwide and by First Nations in British Columbia. Special reference will be made to First Nations in and around the Terrace area and Haida Gwaii. The course will be organized around food, medicinal, technological and spiritual uses of plants. Topics covered will include traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), research protocols, basic phytochemistry and contemporary issues in ethnobotany. No prerequisites required. “Interest only” participants welcome BIOL 318-3 Fungi and Lichens CRN 30104 Date: Aug 19 th -27 th , 9:00 am 5:00 pm Aug. 28 th , 9:00 am 12:00 noon (plus the lab will be open most evenings to work on collections) Students will collect and learn to identify local mushrooms and lichens in a field and laboratory settings, with lectures to introduce students to fungal and lichen classification and biology.
