The Miles Nadal JCC is a people organization: from those in our programs to the staff, volunteers and lay leaders who build

relationships here every day.

We believe in accessibility for all, and to all. Everyone should have a chance to advance their journey; to learn something new; to appreciate culture, enjoy the pool, stretch a muscle (and a goal), or simply spend time with friends and family.

The MNjcc is committed to evolving and to knowing more about who we serve and how we can best suit their needs. We take pride in our culture and have a broad and inclusive view of 'doing Jewish'.

I’m thrilled with how we're revitalizing: building-wide wifi; Stages™ bikes in the cycling studio; accessibility renovations in the Al Green Theatre; our growing communal Shabbat dinners and Israeli Connection; the Citizenship Project; rooftop fitness events, thriving daytime culture and expanding children’s programs.

It's all here inside the guide!

Harriet Wichin • Executive Director

I am excited to have recently taken the reins as Board President of the MNjcc. I have spent much of the last 30+ years at or near

Bloor & Spadina, having attended the University of Toronto for seven years and more recently while my three children became fixtures in the building during their pre-school years on the first floor, and during their primary school years at Paul Penna DJDS. In fact, two of my kids were even swim instructors at the MNjcc; this neighbourhood and this community centre, feel like home to me. The MNjcc is truly where we all belong. There is so much available to you (as you will see within the pages of this Program Guide) that you may not know where to start! Perhaps you’re looking for a top notch space to exercise or swim, a Sunday afternoon film, a preschool for your kids, or to learn to speak Hebrew or Yiddish? Whatever your needs, you can bet that once you start your MNjcc journey, it will very soon feel like home to you as well.

Adult String Ensemble ClassesString ensembles for adults who wish to reconnect with their instruments, and/or who would like to learn an instrument from the very beginning. Participants are strongly advised to take weekly private lessons as well. We'll have two performance opportunities in the Al Green Theatre.

Summer Adult String Ensemble This week-long summer string ensemble session is for adults (ages 23 and beyond), who wish to reconnect with their instruments (violin, viola, or cello), and/or have already been involved participating in our year-long adult string ensemble classes. To participate in this daily 2-hour session we recommend at least two years of study. We will explore music of the Baroque era - 21st Century and will tailor sessions to fit the comfort level of the group.

Klezmer EnsembleInstrumentalists are welcome to this inspiring chamber group. Develop solid arranging and ensemble-playing skills while exploring the fundamentals of Klezmer music. All instruments are welcome! Intermediate skill level needed, but you do not need prior experience in an ensemble to join. Participants will need to know how to read sheet music, but the instructor can arrange music to accommodate varying note reading abilities. The goal is to put together a May 14 performance for the spring ensembles concert in the Al Green Theatre.

Ensembles ConcertHear the Daytime Choir and the Klezmer Ensemble in concert at the Al Green Theatre on Tuesday May 14th. 8:00 pm. Tickets go on sale in April.

Bar & Bat Mitzvah:Where is its place in Contemporary Society? What is the role of parents during this transition time in a teen’s life?Bar and Bat Mitzvah are neither in the Torah nor the Talmud, but they have become important occasions for celebration in contemporary Jewish life. Where did this combination of ritual and celebration originate? What does its contemporary experience say about Jewish identity today? How do Bar and Bat Mitzvot connect with the identities of parents as well as life-cycle transitions of children? Led by Bryan Keshen.

Leaving the Narrow Place Behind: Chanting our Journey from 'Stuckness' to ExpansivenessThe Passover Haggadah tells us that in every generation one must see oneself as if one had personally experienced Yetziat Mitzrayim (the exodus from Egypt). Matanot Lev’s Annie Matan will lead participants on a journey through the themes of the exodus using Hebrew chants and guided intentions, to support participants in noticing where we are feeling stuck in our lives today and how we can move forward to more expansiveness and freedom.
