Attention to detailIn order to enhance the clean and tidy look of the community, all garbage bins have been positioned in standard locations across all villas. This is being done considering convenience of use and to improve the aesthetics of the community. Residents are encouraged to ensure that the bins are always placed behind the column in the car port.

In order to keep our communities looking naturally colourful, planter beds at all gatehouses were replaced with new seasonal flowers. These colourful beauties will add to the welcoming appearance of our community entrances and enhance their aesthetic appeal.

The fountains in the lakes add a pleasing effect to the community. They not only improve aesthetics but also help aerate the water in the lake. A fountain has been recently introduced into the lake in Springs 6 to enhance the visual appeal of the surroundings.

Gatehouses get a makeoverThe gatehouses are the first impression of your community and it is important that these are kept spotless. Due to regular wear and tear and heavy traffic, the appearance of the facilities required attention. A detailed snagging of gatehouses and the immediate surroundings was carried out and all identified issues were rectified. Further enhancements to uplift the appearance of the gatehouses are underway.

The security team has patrollers who go around the communities on the lookout for any suspicious activity or any unknown persons loitering in the area. These patrols are done round-the-clock. So, to increase visibility and provide patrolling staff with a clear view of their surroundings, the bicycles were recently fitted with brighter LED flash lights. A red tail light was also fitted on each bicycle to alert vehicles approaching from the rear.

Upgrading swimming pools The swimming pools are one of the most in-demand community facilities in The Springs and a significant amount of time is dedicated to ensuring they are maintained at the highest possible standards. This summer, during scheduled annual maintenance of the Springs 7 pool, our team identified several leaks that needed immediate attention and rectification beyond the planned maintenance work, which delayed the re-opening of the pool by several weeks. During the repair of the leaks our team identified that the pool waterproofing had become compromised with age, leading to loose tiling inside the pool. A specialist evaluated the pool and upon their recommendation, complete replacement of all pool tiling and waterproofing has been done, with completion due early November. We appreciate the understanding and patience extended by our residents while we carried out these essential repairs to maintain the safety of the pool.

As part of a programme to identify and reward staff members in the community who are going the extra mile, two members were given the ‘Employee of the Month’ award.

• Franklin Chandrasekara, the lifeguard of Deema 3 was rewarded for his act of saving the life of a young man who almost drowned.

• Habibur Rahman, the Housekeeping Team Supervisor was rewarded for his exceptional dedication and commitment in ensuring that the community is clean and well maintained.

Both staff members were presented a Certificate of Appreciation and a cash award at a ceremony that was attended by their peers and management. It is expected that this public recognition and reward programme will encourage and motivate other staff to perform consistently and excellently. We are grateful to have exceptional individuals who are dedicated and committed to their duties in contributing to the services of the community.

In the news: Campaign against garden waste dumping Yet another community initiative has been covered in the national news. This time, it is a campaign against dumping of garden waste in the community by private gardening service providers. Most residents hire garden maintenance companies and very often the waste accumulated as part of their services is disposed of in the common areas. This unsightly practice affects the aesthetics of our community and sets a precedent for others to follow. More importantly, the clearing of dumped garden waste was resulting in extra costs to the community and consequently, the residents.

The objective of the campaign was to crackdown on this illegal practice and ensure that violators understand the Community Rules and abide by them. As part of this campaign, multi-lingual flyers and relevant signage was created to draw attention to the dos and don’ts and the hefty fines levied on violators by ECM and Dubai Municipality. Also mentioned on these flyers were rules on parking, property maintenance, waste clearance & disposal and noise control within the community.

Extensive multilingual orientation sessions were also held for registered landscaping companies and their staff to educate them about the code of conduct and community violations. The campaign was also publicised through circulars to residents who were encouraged to share the information with their private gardeners.

Restoring lakesThe lakes in Emirates Living are designed to serve two purposes, one being aesthetic and the other, functional. While the aesthetic intention is obvious, did you know their functional purpose is flood prevention? The lakes are interconnected and designed to receive storm-water inflows during the rainy season and therefore prevent flooding within the community.

The lake located near Yasmeen Gate in Emirates Hills differs from the other lakes in that it is a major source of irrigation water, serving most of the Emirates Living community landscaping. Sludge removal work is currently in progress at this lake and will be continued in several of the other community lakes in the future, as recommended by the specialist service provider. Once completed, this will add to the holding capacity and enhance the quality of water. We expect the work to have minimal impact on the residents living by the lakes.

Taking steps toward a better community Due to the backyard garden of the villas being at a height from the ground, many residents have installed stones or blocks as steps for easy access – especially to the lakes. Most of these steps appear to be rudimentary and unsafe and do not blend in with the beauty of the surrounding areas.

A standard design for each property will soon be rolled out across The Springs communities to facilitate convenient resident access to the lakes and landscaped areas.

Dubai Police have recognised the efforts of security personnel in Emirates Living in maintaining community safety during the summer months when a majority of the residents were away on holiday.

H.E. Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzaina, Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police presented cash awards and certificates to four security personnel for their vigilance and exceptional services in the community. This recognition from the authorities has inspired all security staff to continue to excel in performance.

Saying thank you to security

In villa communities like Emirates Living, the vast expanse of space and abundance of greenery could provide a habitation for pests and rodents. It is therefore important to have measures to detect, control and inhibit pests through planned and periodic pest control methods by specialist authority approved firms.

Following a detailed review of the deliverables and under a structured framework tailored for Emirates Living, tendering for pest control was completed and services commenced with Unimar, our new pest control service provider.

The services of Unimar are limited to the common areas of the community and to specific pests like rodents. We encourage residents to engage a pest control service provider to carry out similar services within their plot limits to ensure we have a pest free community.

As part of continued efforts to deliver strong, professional and effective security coverage in the community, a full scale roll-out of newly branded security vehicles with beacon lights has commenced. These patrolling vehicles will enhance staff mobility, while their easily identifiable presence will increase the sense of safety and security in the community.

Making patrolling more mobile

It is common knowledge that recycling benefits your community and the environment. But more importantly, it is our responsibility to instil a culture of recycling in generations to come. Plans are currently in progress to roll out a community wide recycling programme to encourage all residents to conscientiously dispose of waste and support sustainable recycling.

Rolling out recycling

To maintain the clean and tidy appearance of the community and for the convenience of residents enjoying their walk, bins have been placed at strategic locations around the lakes. As a measure towards making the lakes more welcoming and to add to the comfort of our residents, these bins have been moved away from the sidewalks, freeing more space to walk. Paving stones have been placed on the lawns and the bins have been placed on these stones conveniently close to the benches. This was done at the lake near Springs 11, 14 and 15 as a pilot project and will be undertaken across all lakes over the next few weeks.

Coming soonLighting up the eco-friendly way!Energy conservation is a key element in efforts to reduce utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions. As part of an Energy Management programme, there are plans to introduce socially and environmentally sustainable products and solutions in the Emirates Living communities.

A number of initiatives have been undertaken in the community and will be implemented in the fourth quarter of 2015.

A pilot project is underway to upgrade street lighting by replacing the existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) bulbs with energy efficient LEDs along a stretch of Meadows Drive. Once the quality of lighting is verified, the project will be extended to cover all 3,200 street lights across Emirates Living.

Studies are also in progress to replace the bollard lights around the lakes with solar powered ones. Apart from saving on energy consumption, there will also be significant savings in costs typically associated with the installation of conventional electrical lighting.

Another prospective area for using LEDs are the flood lights at the gatehouses. Samples are currently being tested at various gatehouses to select the most suitable option for the communities, keeping safety, visibility and security in mind.

Sikka solar lightsThe sikkas are vital for pedestrian movement between the communities. Residents may have observed that the sikkas were recently repainted to give them an uplift. A pilot project is currently underway to explore energy and cost-efficient lighting, including solar options. These will be equipped with motion sensors to conserve energy and provide much needed lighting in the sikka areas while keeping sustainability in mind.
