Springfield House was designed by facilitator Wilf Meynell of Studio Bark in 2013 and has been on-site since March 2014. It is due to be featured on

Channel 4’s Grand Designs programme on October 8th 2014. Springfield House has been designed with a rigorous focus on low energy environ-

mental design and will be the first code level 6, paragraph 55 building in the UK. More information on the house can be found at www.studiobark.

co.uk. The Bio-Garage had to be omitted from the original tender due to cost and time-scale. The construction project in question allows for a flexible

design and build process, all within the jurisdiction of the local planning department and national building control. The three main unknown design

elements are the green roof, the external cladding design and the two external doors. The slab is cast and the boiler room has been formed to allow

for prior installation of the Herz log batch boiler and accumulator tank. This project requires creativity in design, specification and detailing, with

plenty of opportunity to learn about timber and joinery.
