USC School of Music Recital Hall Göran Marcusson burst onto the American flute scene in 1987 when he won First Prize in the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition. He won a prize at the Vienna Music Competition in 1992 and has been guest principal flute with the London Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Cadaques and Gothenburg Opera Orchestra. Currently he is principal flute with the Gothenburg Wind Orchestra. Bio

Göran Marcusson burst onto the Americanflute scene in 1987 when he won First Prize inthe National Flute Association’s Young ArtistCompetition. This First Thursday on Main Concert includes the Bach Cantata "Jesu, der du Meine Seele"accompanied by a chamber orchestra with soloists Anna Young, Aubrey Nelson, Mark Bischoff andJonathan Trotter. And in honor of the centennial of Robert Shaw, the choir will sing a set ofarrangements of American folk hymns and spirituals set by Shaw and his writing partner, AliceParker. Aaron Hynds is an Ohio‐based tubist, composer and proponent of contemporary music. Hisemphasis as a performer is the reconciliation of standard performance practice on theinstruments of the tuba family with the demands made by newly written compositions. To thisend, he has made a point to perform works from across a wide spectrum of musical styles,purposefully shunning the boundaries between the new and old. He has been a featuredperformer across the U.S. since 2007, particularly in new music venues. Bio

Sara Ernst is an active piano pedagogue,teacher of all ages, and pianist, and serves asassistant professor of piano and pianopedagogy at USC. Cones and Tones, a new project featuring foureclectic musical veterans is the brainchild ofJ.D. Shaw, arranger and horn player fromBoston Brass and associate professor of hornat USC. The group combines Shaw’s classicaland jazz arrangements with originalcompositions by pianist and associateprofessor of music entrepreneurship, DavidCutler. Veteran tuba virtuoso Andrew Hitzand multi‐instrumentalist and comedianLance LaDuke round out this diverse andenergetic foursome. The Voice of Yunan Concert Mon., March 14, 7:30 p.m. Johnson Performance Hall, Darla Moore School of Business, level 1 ‐ map

The Voice of Yunan is composed of artists from national minorities within Yunnan and teachersand students from the China Conservatory of Music. A variety of musical forms like pop and worldmusic are absorbed into the original folk music of Yunnan’s ethic minority to express this earlymusic through innovation. The Voice of Yunan represents Han, Dai, Yi, Wa, Bulang, Jingpo, Naxi ,Tibetan, Achang and Hani nationalities.
