Introduction

We’re hopeful that we’ve seen the first signs of spring, we can’t wait to tuck into summer. Our development teams have created a colourful range of food and drink – perfect to brighten up summer meals. We’ve been tapping into current food insights, while also listening to our customers bringing our products to life with the latest on-trend flavours and ingredients, such as jackfruit, rocoto chilli and rum!

Warmer weekends are the highlight of the next few months, and we know our customers continue to prioritise summer entertaining with family and friends. Now more than ever, households often prefer to host at home rather than heading out to celebrate we’ve developed our food and drink range to offer that premium dine-out experience, without the hassle of preparing everything from scratch. Inspired by flavours from around the globe, it couldn’t be easier to whip up our gloriously smoky by Sainsbury’s Summer Edition Slow Cooked British Pork Belly Pieces with a Sticky, Sweet BBQ Sauce and a side of tangy by Sainsbury’s Summer Edition Beetroot & Pomegranate Middle Eastern Slaw, or enjoy our ready-made aromatic by Sainsbury’s Summer Edition Prawn Lollipops with a Soy & Ginger Dip after just a few minutes in the oven.

When it comes to meat for the grill, our customers are increasingly looking for cuts with added value, opting for pre-marinated skewers and steaks which offer a guaranteed pop of flavour. Barbecue aficionados should look no further than our totally tropical by Sainsbury’s Summer British Chicken Mini Fillet Kebabs with a Rum, Coconut and Pineapple Marinade, truly sunshine on a skewer, or our new weather-proof by Sainsbury’s Summer Edition BBQ Sqwirl – unbelievably easy in the oven if (or when) those British rain clouds make an appearance.

With plant-based diets booming over the past year, it would be remiss not to mention the new additions to our Love Your Veg! range, perfect for those exploring vegetarian, vegan or flexitarian lifestyles. Start everyone off with our new Love Your Veg! Jackfruit Empanadas, followed by our incredibly moreish Love Your Veg! Moroccan and Katsu Vegbabs straight from the grill. And for dessert, my personal favourite: our new vegan Taste the Difference Chocolate Torte Slices. Catering for all diets needn’t be difficult when the food tastes this good!

As Easter falls unusually late this year, we’re underway with our gorgeous new Cocoa et Co egg range, both gorgeous gifts or an indulgent treat for yourself! This year’s selection includes a Belgian Milk Chocolate Geometric Egg and an extra-large Milk Chocolate Egg with Splatter Decoration.

We hope you’ll join us here in raising a glass to our 150th birthday in May – an extremely exciting time for Sainsbury’s and a brilliant excuse to try our new Taste the Difference Blackfriars Orange & Blossom Gin

For those who enjoy a glass of fizz, look no further than our pink Taste the Difference Sparkling Malbec – a UK supermarket first, with fabulous notes of cherries and spring blossom.

As many of you will know, our Future Brands team work closely with suppliers to bring new and exclusive products to our shelves, many of which you won’t find elsewhere. One area of focus is no and low alcohol and we’re launching some delicious alcohol-free drinks options this summer: Caleño, a Colombian non-alcoholic spirit as an alternative to gin, and Everleaf, a non-alcoholic bittersweet apéritif, ideal served as a refreshing spritz.

We’re confident in our summer offer – we hope you’ll be inspired by our products, from family favourites, through to new cuisines, ingredients and flavours for those keen to expand their horizons this year. We would love to hear your thoughts on the products that catch your eye.

Summer Edition Love Burger With the nation’s favourite reality show returning to our screens this June, the only “melt” you’ll want in your life is the cheese on our heart-shaped by Sainsbury’s Summer Edition Love Burgers. No need for “grafting” here – simply “whack” them in the oven and in minutes you’ll have delicious burgers that are guaranteed to be your “type on paper”. (310g)

Summer Edition BBQ Sqwirl

Barbecues are a great occasion to get stuck in, which is why we’ve launched our by Sainsbury’s Summer Edition BBQ Sqwirl – a 1.8m long spiral sausage that serves four. It’s as easy as cooking it in its foil tray in the oven and then finishing it outside on the grill. Our Sqwirl really is the ultimate showstopper, and means you won’t have to worry about chasing any sausages around the barbecue! (600g)

Summer Edition British Chicken Mini Fillet Kebabs with a Rum, Coconut and Pineapple Marinade

These British chicken mini fillet kebabs are marinated in a sweet Caribbean-style glaze then layered with a sweet, sticky, fruity sauce for a totally tropical twist. We’re predicting that rum will be the next big drinks trend this year, so have infused it into the marinade along with sunny notes of coconut and pineapple – instantly transporting you to a beachside barbecue! Summer Edition Slow Cooked British Pork Belly Bites with a Sticky, Sweet BBQ Sauce

These luscious BBQ bites have a sweet, smoky succulence and subtle chilli heat. Generous pieces of British pork belly are tumbled in a smoky rub laced with cayenne, paprika, black pepper and chilli, then cooked low and slow for four hours until they’re meltingly tender. Just finish them in the oven and then pour over our sticky BBQ sauce five minutes before they’re done. (380g)

Love Your Veg! Moroccan Vegbabs and Love Your Veg! Katsu Vegbabs

Barbecues used to be notoriously tough if you don’t eat meat, and so we’ve developed our new 100% plant-based Vegbabs to be so tasty they’re guaranteed to be enjoyed by everyone. Our vegan Love Your Veg! Moroccan Vegbabs are characterised by their warm North African spices, including cumin and coriander, while our vegan Love Your Veg! Katsu Vegbabs are infused with the sweet spices of classic Japanese curry and blended with cauliflower rice for added texture. The Vegbabs can also be cooked in the oven, making them a great weather-proof option in case the British summer weather fails us. (280g)

Salmon Sausages

Our by Sainsbury’s Salmon Sausages are the first of their kind, and a great alternative to bring to any barbecue. Never again will you have to choose between a hot dog and grilled fish – these salmon sausages are the best of both worlds! Our Taste the Difference Chocolate Torte Slices are the perfect indulgent after-dinner treat. For a twist on a standard torte, we’ve layered velvety dark Belgian chocolate ganache on to a crunchy base made of dates, pumpkin seeds and coconut – both naughty and nice at the same time! Vegans can also rejoice, as this decadent dessert is 100% plant-based. (x2)

Taste the Difference Blackfriars Orange & Blossom Gin

What better way to celebrate 150 years of Sainsbury’s than with a bottle of our new fragrant Taste the Difference Blackfriars Orange & Blossom Gin? Infused with eight aromatic botanicals, it is flavoured with zesty orange and blossom with a hint of thyme and pairs perfectly with a Mediterranean tonic. 37.5% ABV

Recipe: Orange and Blossom Gin & Tonic• 30cl Taste the Difference Blackfriars

Orange & Blossom Gin• 90cl Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic

To garnish: • ½ tsp of pink peppercorns• 1 wedge of blood orange• 1 sprig of fresh thyme

The method: 1. Pour the Taste the Difference Blackfriars Orange &

Blossom Gin over ice, and add the tonic so they are well combined

2. Add the pink peppercorns for a pop of colour and spice, and lightly squeeze the wedge of blood orange when adding to the glass in order to release some of its juice

3. Garnish with a sprig of thyme

Taste the Difference Marzemino This fruity and fragrant red is produced in Trentino, located in the picturesque Dolomite Mountains in the north east of Italy. The grape is famed for producing refreshing reds with juicy cherry flavours and a delicate scent of violets. Delicious with mushroom recipes or rich pasta dishes. 12.5% ABV

Taste the Difference Jurançon Jurançon sits at the foothills of the Pyrenees in South West France, where the vineyards have maximum sun exposure to produce ripe, full-flavoured grapes. The vibrant, fruity wine has notes of lemon, tangerine and juicy ripe apples, making it a great match for spicy food as well as a delicious apéritif. 13% ABV

Taste the Difference English Rosé The flavours of an English summer in one sip – wild strawberries, juicy raspberries and ripe peaches, underpinned by the fragrant hint of elderflower. This wine is produced by Denbies Estate from grapes grown in their vineyards in Surrey’s beautiful South Downs. Serve chilled with afternoon tea and strawberries. 11.5% ABV

Taste the Difference Sparkling Morador Malbec Malbec is renowned for making bold, powerful reds but the experts at La Casa del Rey have created a delightfully fresh and fruity sparkling rosé – a UK supermarket first! The delicate sweetness of this summery pink fizz pairs beautifully with seafood and shellfish. 13% ABV

Laughing Llama Merlot New for this season is the Chilean Laughing Llama range. The Merlot grapes are from Chile’s Curicó Valley, which benefits from the perfect blend of climate and soil, lending itself to producing excellent quality wines. This beautifully soft and plummy Merlot has a lovely silky texture and is brimming with flavours of red fruits, warming spices and mocha. A great match for pasta dishes. 13.5% ABV

Caleño

If you’re on the hunt for a non-alcoholic alternative to a G&T this summer, look no further than Caleño. This totally tropical alcohol-free spirit is infused with juniper, citrus and spice botanicals, plus the sweet, zesty notes of the inca berry (also known as physalis) – capturing the sunny spirit of Colombia in a glass.

Infused with a range of sustainably sourced natural herbs and spices such as bright saffron, bitter gentian, fragrant vetiver and the mysterious voodoo lily, Everleaf is a brilliantly bittersweet apéritif which is perfect for a summery alcohol-free spritz. Just add soda and a wedge of orange – or try with a splash of non-alcoholic sparkling wine to take your spritz up a notch!
