Golf Event (Lunch Included) Grey Rock Golf Club is a Jay Morrish design just 20 minutes south of downtown Austin. Considered one of the best public golf courses in Austin, golfers are drawn to the close proximity to the city, as well as, the serene setting in the heart of the Texas hill country. The generous fairways are lined with beautiful oaks, and the large, undulating greens provide welcome targets.

9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Welcome and NGMA Member Introductions Greenhouse Standards (Dr. A.J. Both) In the past, construction and operational standards were developed by ad-hoc committees from organizations such as ASABE and NGMA. This process was satisfactory as long as there were volunteers to serve on the committees and as long as there was an industry need to develop and upgrade the standards. These requirements were not met recently when a mandated revision was scheduled for the ASABE standards Heating, Ventilating and Cooling Greenhouses (EP406.4) and Commercial Greenhouse Design and Layout (EP460). As a result, ASABE shelvedthesestandards.Dr.Bothwilldiscussthebenefitsofmaintainingthese standards and the potential role NGMA can play in future revisions.

Research Activities and Trends and the Importance of Partnerships (Dr. A.J. Both) The rapid growth in the use of LED lamps for plant and animal production has accelerated the need for standards and guidelines for these specialized applications. ASABE, DOE, IES, UL all developed lighting standards and the electric utilities are workingontheirownmetricsthatwillbeusedtoimplementfinancialincentive programsbasedonequipmentefficiencies.Theincreaseinmedicinaland recreational cannabis production has largely driven these developments. LED lamps also have a bright future in greenhouse production, so it is important for NGMA to be informed about these developments.

Keep Austin Weird — Unique Things to Do

Museum of the Weird512-476-5493 www.museumoftheweird.comThe dime or dime store museum is by all accounts an endangered species. Thefirstdimemuseum,“TheAmericanMuseum,”wasopenedin1841bynone other than P. T. Barnum himself. It represented a departure from high-class art and science museums, catering to a poorer crowd and offering items of a much more dubious nature.

Uncommon Objects512-442-4000 www.uncommonobjects.comLike an elegant antiques mall gone horribly wrong, 24 different vendors sell their weird and eclectic wares in eyecatching booth displays lined up along aisles at Austin’s premier curiosities shop. It’s been described as “your eccentric uncle’s attic on steroids.” And remember, this is no museum. This stuff is for sale. Photo: uncommonobjects.com

Other Things to Do Texas State Capitol1100 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704tspb.texas.govIf it’s in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. While others might be taller now, this beautiful building and grounds show off many of the Texas’ natural resources, like limestone and landscapes.

Barton Springs Pool2201 Barton Springs Road, Zilker Park, Austin, TX 78746austintexas.gov/department/barton-springs-poolOver the years, people have come to this 1,000-foot-long natural limestone pool, fedbyseveralundergroundsprings, foreverythingfromfishingandswimmingto baptisms and beauty pageants.
