Club Meeting Reminder Sunday, April 28, 2019—7:00 p.m. Meeting will be held at Three Harbors Council, Boy Scouts of America, 330 South 84th Street, Milwaukee, WI, Lower Level Pieper Power Learning Center. The Featured Program will be presented by Bladesmith and Knife Maker Peter Martin about Meteoric Damascus Steel. 2019 Badger Knife Show The attendance was the best we have had—for each day of the three-day show. Also, the most number of Blue Cards

Best Cutlery Artistry

Doug Ponzio. For mosaic Damascus used in a

Mark Nevling knife. The central feature is

an accurate US flag with 50 stars and 13

stripes. The surrounding, complex, mosaic

pattern includes spiders, stars, and geomet-

ric shapes. Forging the blank took hun-

dreds of hours.

Best Knives

Best Basic Knife – Mike MacInnes. “Hunter

style”, Every Day Carry (EDC), fixed

blade knife with 1080 carbon steel blade.

Handle is black, paper Micarta with blue,

G10, liners.

Best Fixed Blade Knife – John Gulso. Bowie

style “America’s Knife” with an 8 inch,

Damascus blade with an American flag

theme, the san-mai blade has a 1095 core

with the outer layer of 1075 / 4600KC

steels. The S-guard is of A203E / 1075 Da-

mascus steel with ball tips. Handle is sta-

bilized and carved black walnut. Overall

length is 13 inches. Leather sheath is by

Paul Long.

Best Folding Knife – David Taber. Three-

blade, Whittler pattern knife. The main,

Wharncliffe style, blade locks. Secondary

clip and pen blades are slip-joints. Blade

steel is CPM154. Handle scales are of Cor-

vette Fordite (overspray buildup of paint

on walls in the Corvette paint room of the

factory near Bowling Green, KY); bolsters

are of Carbo-Quartz.

Best Fantasy / Art Cutlery – Cory Martin. The

“Megladon”, a large, fantasy, flipper-

folder. The knife frame, liners, inlays, and

back-bar are hand carved titanium; “ribs”

and back-bar spacers are of copper. The

knife stand is of titanium and copper.

Blade steel is S35V.

Judges’ Award – Robert Schumerth. Sole-

authorship of a 3-piece, Native American

knife / sheath / stand set. The knife has a

flint knapped obsidian blade attached to a

Cholla cactus handle with a traditional

wrap. The handle has wood and malachite

accents and a horn and malachite turtle

butt cap. The sheath incorporates Par-

fleche leather with acrylic painted quill-

work art (leather worked and painted to

closely resemble traditional quillwork). A

stand of Cholla cactus completes the set.

Best in Show – Kevin Casey. “Buffalo

Hunter”, fixed blade, Hunter / Fighter

style knife. The knife blade is of Kevin’s

1080 / 15N20 feather Damascus steel.

Handle is of worked blackwood with tur-

quoise and silver accents. The handle in-

corporates an inlaid buffalo head with

“chief’s headdress” on both sides. The

mild S-guard is file worked. Overall design

and knife is by Kevin Casey. The handle

and inlays are by Russian artist Konstan-

tin Pushkarev from Moscow.
