Food truck owner

gets her start

Returning to work after several years and some hard life circumstances is not a simple path. Ask Marjorie Molina of Charlotte. She said she struggled to turn her four-year degree, previous work experience and volunteering into any meaningful job offer.

With the help of Central Piedmont, she learned more about her strengths and interests in IT and is working toward a certificate in Data Analytics with SQL. “My naturally investigative nature is helping me with understanding this completely new language and function,” said Molina.

Updating your job skills, she said is a must. “Continuing to educate yourself to have opportunities is mandatory now. It seems cliché. Many were raised to believe that achieving a degree was the ultimate goal, only to find out that is no longer the case.”

To help find success, Molina is also learning how to connect the dots between her skills and her relationships. “I’m intentionally networking to make a successful transition to the workforce with the new skills I’m gaining.”

Welding and InspectionINTRODUCTION TO NDENDX8012 HOURS: 40.0 $495

This course will help build a stronger Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) team by ensuring everyone has the same foundation. NDE uses group analysis techniques to determine the structural integrity of a component without damaging or impairing the serviceability of the part or system. Because NDE does not require the destruction or often the dis-assembly of a system, it is a highly valuable technique that saves time and money in both product manufacture and in service inspection. You will be introduced to NDE terminology, processes and applications and will be able to define the advantages and disadvantages of using various NDE methods. A knowledgeable team improves business processes, develops quality products and builds team morale. While designed with managers, supervisors, engineers, quality inspectors, procurement, source inspectors and technical personnel involved within the NDE field in mind, this course is suited for anyone who wants to learn about NDE.SEC LOCATION DAY(S) TIME DATES REFUND

NDE VISUAL TESTING, LEVEL 1, 2NDX8005 HOURS: 40.0 $595

Visual testing is the most common method of nondestructive testing. In fact, most nondestructive applications rely on a visual assessment of parts or components prior to applying their inspection method. Without visual testing, discontinuities such as cracks in aircraft parts may be missed, potentially leading to life-ending tragedies. This course, combined with the practicum (NDX-7005), provides sufficient organized training to ensure the student is thoroughly familiar with the principles and practices of visual testing. Upon completion of this course plus practicum (NDX-7005), students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of NDE visual techniques and their applications from Level 1 and 2 qualifications as described in ASNT’s SNT-TC-1A using the topical outline of ASNT CP-105-2011.SEC LOCATION DAY(S) TIME DATES REFUND

Zella Slaymon, Cake Decorating and Design student

“Find out what it is you really LOVE

and find a way to do it. Move beyond

your fear.”

With non-credit classes that fit her work schedule, Zella Slaymon of Charlotte is pursuing a sweet dream – to one day open a specialty cake shop. In Cake Decorating and Design, she said she learned new skills she would never have attempted on her own.

“I would have never worked with fondant icing if it had not been for my wonderful teacher, Brandi Jones,” said Slaymon. She said she has gained confidence, knowledge of food safety and learned proper baking techniques and lessons to broaden her decorating skills.

To those like her who have been out of school for some time, she said to quit procrastinating. “Find out what it is you really LOVE and find a way to do it. Move beyond your fear,” she said. “Stop comparing yourself, your age and your current situation to others. Start investing in your future.”
