Aerika High had a senior season to remember as she improved in nearlyevery ofensive category on her breakout junior year.

The Wagner University-bound shortstop had 46 hits and nine walks in 96 plateappearances or an on-base percentage o .573 and a batting average o .541.

She stroked eight doubles, our triples and seven home runs or a sluggingpercentage o .976 and drove in 35 runs.

Those numbers were an increase o, respectively, 17 hits, two doubles,two triples and ve homers, as well as 19 RBI, over a junior year thatsaw her hit .408 with a .526 OBP and .634 slugging percentage. She

scored 24 runs, an improvement o ve, and cut down her strikeoutsrom 15 to ve. She did walk 12 ewer times nine compared to 21

a reection o her role as the No. 3 batter in the Barons order.Ater hitting .260 over her rst two seasons, she rapped 76 hits in 156

at-bats over her nal two years, a .490 average.For her our-year career, High hit .368 in 111 games, driving in 71 runs.

and District Three meet records inthe same event, clocking 42.32 atleagues and then 42.11 at districts.Witmer won both hurdles events andthe triple jump, and also ran a legon the victorious 1,600 relay, as theMountaineers won the L-L Leaguetitle or the frst time in school history.She holds fve individual schoolrecords and a sixth as part o thatrelay team.Mary had a great work ethic and was

Choosing a way to describe Tyler Karpinski wasar too difcult.

So, talented, hard-working and dedicatedwere just a ew Manheim Township ootball boss MarkEvans chose.

I have so many words going through my head rightnow (to describe Karpinski), Evansacknowledged. He is just special.

Hes a special athlete and a specialstudent-athlete.

What Karpinski was able to achieve

in his senior season on the ootball feld,basketball court and lacrosse feld wasalso special.

On the gridiron, the Manheim Town-ship grad and Temple recruit was theLancaster-Lebanon League coachespick or Wide Receiver o the Year andDeensive Back o the Year in SectionOne. Karpinski was an L-L League Sec-tion One First-Team All-Star selectionat wide receiver and deensive back,a Second-Team selection as a kickreturner and was also named to the

Pennsylvania Football News All-StarFirst Team as a kick returner.Karpinski was also named to the Big

33 Pennsylvania roster and was amongthe 51 2012 Pennsylvania Mini MaxwellAward winners.

(Players were nominated by theircoaches throughout the 2012 seasonand were evaluated based on a criteriathat includes academics, ootball per-ormance and community service).

On the court, Karpinski was the starting pointguard or the Blue Streaks. And on the lacrossefeld, the attack garnered All-L-L League First-

Team honors while leading the Streaks to anotherDistrict Three championship. For the season, hecompiled 64 goals, 34 assists and 98 points.

To wrap up his successul senior season, Kar-pinski was named Lancaster Newspapers MaleAthlete o the Year.

Others considered were Solancos ThomasHaines (wrestling, soccer), Manheim CentralsCole Proftt (ootball, track and feld), WarwicksTom Devenney (ootball, wrestling) and McCas-keys Diante Cherry (ootball, basketball, trackand feld) and Aaron Swinton (ootball, basket-ball).

I wasnt expecting this, Karpinski said with achuckle last week. Im just honored. There are alot o good athletes in the area.

Im just happy and surprised, but its awe-some.

Tyler is a wonderul kid, Township boyslacrosse coach Kyle Wimer said. Hes a greatathlete. Every time you ask him to do something,to improve and work on it, he does it and you can

see how his game escalates just by being a playerscoach and being a great teammate.

Karpinski (5-oot-10, 165 pounds) led the L-L in re-ceiving with 74 catches or 1,151 yards and eight touch-downs. As a kick and punt returner, Karpinski returned12 kicks or 434 yards and 14 punts or 359 yards. Heaveraged 36.2 and 25.6 yards per return, respectively.

In the words o Evans, any time Karpinski was on thefeld he was a threat and a orce every time he touchedthe ootball.

What he lacked in speed, inpure speed and size, he madeup in the ability to get open,said Evans, talking about Kar-pinskis receiving talents.

I think what separatedhim on the ootball feld,not only just his instincts,but he had the wiggle. Hehad the shake and bakeyou just cant coach.

Juggling three sports isa rarity among many highschool athletes, who otenchoose to specialize inone sport and play it yearround. But Karpinski, whoplayed basketball, ootball and

lacrosse growing up, made thedecision to stick with all threeearly.

At the beginning o myreshman year, everyone told

me I cant play three sports, he said. Everyone haways been telling me that. I just stayed with it andall three o them.

Its a little bit hectic, but Id rather play all thre(sports) instead o one. I would have gotten tired oone.

She is a three-time state champin the 200-yard IM, setting thePIAA record of 1:59.00 in 2010, low-ering it to 1:57.74 in 2011 and alsowinning it in 2:00.62 as a senior.

Cameron also set state recordsof 22.75 in the 50 freestyle and1:00.54 in the 100 breaststrokewhile claiming titles in 2012.

She won the breaststroke crown three times as well,going 1:02.31 in 2010 and 1:02.15 in 2013, and took the

bronze in the 100 free in 49.45 as a sophomore, when thetop three nishers in that event all broke the previousstate standard.

Cameron was named the Class AAA Swimmer ofthe Meet at the PIAA Championships as a freshman, anaward presented by the state coaches association andbased on prestige points for meetingcertain times in events.

She said her freshman season ac-complishments were among her mostmemorable.

Winning those rst two gold med-als was a really big achieve-

ment for me, Cameron said.Thats when it all started.

Obviously, I really fell inlove with the water beforethen, but (winning thosetitles), thats what got thingsgoing for me.

She is a four-time MostValuable Swimmer in the L-LLeague and is a 14-time highschool All-America selection.

This season, she receivedthe Brooks-Fackler-Hower SportsmanshipAward presented by District Three.

Cameron was also a cross-country runner,and although that career was secondary toswimming, she certainly found success there aswell. She helped Warwick win the L-L Leagueand District Three Class AAA girls meet teamtitles, and nish fth in the PIAA Champion-ships, as a freshman.

Individually, Cameron was second in leagues, ninth indistricts and 43rd in states that year.

After sitting out two seasons, she resumed her run-ning career as a senior, placing 25th in the L-L LeagueMeet as the Warriors took fth.

Legends are made after your body of work is n-ished, and thats quite a body of work, Daum said at thestate swim meet.

That body of work should expandexponentially when she enrolls at theUniversity of Georgia in the fall. TheBulldogs are coming off an NCAADivision I championship season, afternishing as runners-up in 2011 and2012.

Im just a little sh in a big sea,so that will be a change, she saidof looking forward to competing atGeorgia.

And getting thrown into a poolthat has national champions. Im justa state champion.

Competitiveness in anything isin Emilys DNA and is what I thinkdrives her, Daum said. GeorgiasJack Bauerle is a phenomenal coachwho has a proven track record for

developing and getting the best from his swimmers.Jack creates an environment of excellence that I thinkEmily will thrive in.

Cameron said growing up (in swimming) under theeight-year tutelage of Lancaster Aquatic Club coachCasey Coble was an invaluable experience. And thatmaking Junior Nationals and some of the other high-prole meets with the LAC are among her favorite andcherished accomplishments.

Conestoga Valley junior Chance Post, above, overcame a lot ofobstacles hurdles en route to an outstanding 2013 season. Hewon both hurdles events at the L-L League meet, then placed thirdin districts and sixth in states in the high hurdles, culminating with acareer-best 14.55 at the PIAA Championships. Post was versatileenough to be used anywhere from the 100 to the 400 in addition to thehurdles, and was on the Buckskins 400 relay team.
