From the Bishop’s Desk

W herever your treasure is, there will your heart be also. King David realized this

truth and treasured being in the house of God. Notice his words, “One thing have I

desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of

the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in

his temple” (Psalm 27:4). Do you have a heart for the house of God? David not only had a heart

for God, he also had a heart for being in the house of God. It was never drudgery for David.

One can easily discern his attitude by his words in Psalm 122:1 ESV “I was glad when they said

to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!”

Why should we feel excited and positive about God’s house? Well here are some of the reasons I

esteem it so highly. The house of the Lord is a place of:

Refuge/safety Comfort

Peace Guidance

Love Learning

Joy Community/caring relationships

In addition to these great benefits of the house of God for us, we also have wonderful opportuni-

ties to:

● Connect ● Serve ● Grow ● Lead

Christianity binds people together to deal with life’s joyous and sorrowful moments. You don’t

have to do life alone. Church is a place to find quality relationships. Quality opportunities come

from quality relationships. God connects us because we each carry something that someone else

needs!

We get connected so that we can serve. One of my favorite quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King,

Jr. is, “Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college

degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a

heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” Serving makes you a bigger person and a better

person!

The next step after serving is growth. But unless you make an intentional plan for growth, you

will remain the same. Here are some simple steps for a growth plan:

1. Have a time and plan to grow.

2. Listen to teachings weekly.

3. Read a book monthly.

4. Spend monthly time with someone who can help you grow.

5. File what you learn.

6. Apply what you learn.

We grow through:

Exposure | Growth is at the root of everything that gives us a feeling of

accomplishment, satisfaction, meaning and progress.

Evaluated experience | You can have a great deal of experience and be no

smarter for all the things you’ve done, seen and heard. So always make your learning

greater than your experience.

Adversity | You don’t get to choose all the experiences you have, but you do get to

choose what you do with them. Success is based on how you respond to failure.

After you grow, it is then time for you to lead someone else. The cycle of life is simple: Learn =>

Do => Teach

Isn’t it time for you to get connected so you can serve, grow and then lead? We love you and we

need you. Come and join the family. It will be our joy to welcome you home!

The Media Ministry reflects…

Beverly Simmons … A Servant at Heart “Anything birthed in love, transcends death.”

I t was in the early days of Word of Faith Family Wor-ship Center in East Point, where “Ms. Beverly” found her place in the Body of Christ and became involved

in the vision placed on Bishop Bronner’s heart. She dis-covered her gifts and began her extended stay as a mem-ber of the Media, Communion, Bookstore and Repast Ministries. Within the Media Ministry, she worked regu-larly; stuffing Sunday bulletins, birthday cards, visitor’s packages or whatever tasks were the business of the day. We had the opportunity to observe Ms. Beverly’s counte-nance, over the years, which remained constant; she was always pleasant, humble and worked diligently. Never boisterous or opinionated, however she would speak her mind if you pressed her - just a little. She adored her fam-ily was still in love with “her” Johnnie after 51 years of marriage. She spoke of her children and grandson with pride and admiration. Most of what she expressed among the group was about what they did or said.

In more recent years, she began to encounter some serious medical conditions, but she never complained. Members of the ministry were so touched by her attitude and tenacity, (although she never sought recognition) that she was given an award from the Media Ministry for perseverance in service in 2017. Yes, Ms. Beverly served Word of Faith with passion and faithfulness. She sacri-ficed her time to fulfill the needs of others. Thank you, dear friend, for your unyield-ing contributions. Thank you for inspiring us and know that we will continue to be inspired by your spirit and your truth!

O n Saturday, March 23rd, my wife Monica and I had the pleasure of speaking with Sister An-drea Coleman on her Christ Talk radio broad-

cast. Our topic was “Marriage, Relationships and the #MeToo Movement: Why We Should Embrace God’s Perspective of Each”. One of the things that Sister Coleman asked for was keys to a good marriage. Monica mentioned the need to manage different relationships well even those outside of the marriage covenant. She discussed being able to compartmentalize as a manager or leader in corporate America and not allowing that environment to creep into the household. There has to be boundaries that keep harmful things outside the marriage and family and then keep (or maintain) good things inside the household. To that same question, I mentioned husbands and wives need to be aware of the potential challenges that they may face in marriage. I believe too many people go into marriage unrealistically expecting things to supernaturally fall into place and thinking a good marriage is easy and obtained without effort. However, the reality is that all married couples should be prepared for life to be challenging at times and to partner with God and their spouse to overcome and be victorious as a family. I often say that marriage is about teamwork and requires much prayer and lots of work. However, the journey of marriage ought not be a laborious work but a glorious endeavor. “Looking for a fresh take on the familiar subject of marriage? In this interview with Reverend Charles Hou-ston, D. Min. and his wife, Monica, you get just that: a new perspective on the journey of matrimony and how to approach it in a godly and loving manner. Through their honesty, the Houstons provide a compelling discus-sion that's both real and insightful. The following information was shared by Sister Coleman on the Facebook Social Media platform:

Who is Xernona Clayton? Xernona Clayton is a native of Muskogee, Oklahoma. She and her twin sister, Xenobia were “PKs” (preacher’s kids) and she has spent her life advocating racial harmony. Ms. Clay-ton graduated from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee where she was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha So-rority, Inc. She came to Atlanta in 1965 to work with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Southern Christian Leadership Confer-ence. One of her duties included traveling with Mrs. King exten-sively on her concert tours. She became extremely close to the family. In April, 1968, she drove Dr. King to the airport in At-lanta for that tragic trip to Memphis, not knowing that it would be her last time to see him alive. In 1967, she became the first African American in the South to have her own television show, “The Xernona Clayton Show” which aired on WAGA/CBS. Later, she became employed at

Turner Broadcasting System where she served as a corporate executive for over 30 years. In 1993, she founded the Trumpet Awards to high-light African American accomplishments and continues to serve as the President and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Inc. Her autobiography, I’ve Been Marching All the Time was published in 1991. Ms. Clayton is a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and she has received numerous community service awards and distinc-tions. A street and park were named for her by the Atlanta City Council. On Thursday, March 28th, Ms. Clayton joined Bishop Dale C. Bronner at True Talk for a candid discussion on life, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and her impact on a long-term member of the Klu Klux Klan.

Who Sits in

Your Section? By Minister Paula Palmer Green

with Astrid Pierre-Louis

Y ou might see her sitting in the choir or you might see her sitting in your section. She told me that when she is not ministering in the choir -- she asks the Holy

Spirit to lead her where to sit. She is a mother, nurse, daugh-ter, entrepreneur, family caregiver and minister who just com-pleted the Dale C. Bronner Institute of Ministry & Leadership Development coursework. Her desire to represent Christ with excellence is evident in all that she does. While her gifts are many- the fortitude with which she shares them continues to bless all those within her span of influence. Her unwavering faith remains a catalyst in her life. She is your sister and a beautiful example of what it means to be an Ambassador of Christ in the earth. If you see her say ‘hi’ for she just might say something that confirms something within your spirit. It is an honor and privilege to know her and walking with her reminds me of these few words: “Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about”. Please keep her in your prayers for God gives His toughest battles and greatest victories to His most ardent warriors. May peace be upon you and may you continue to allow God to show His divine strength through you by standing on His promises!

DeVon Franklin, accompanied by his wife, Hollywood actress, Mea-gan Good, visited WOF for a special Sunday evening True Talk. He discussed his new, groundbreaking book, “The Truth About Men.” In this life-changing manual, Franklin challenges men to take accounta-bility for their manhood and gives solutions for them to follow. He also gives women the insight to navigate their relationships. A trail-er of his new film, “Breakthrough” was also shown to the packed-out crowd. When asked how he juggles being a minister, producer and au-thor, he responded: “My goal in everything I do is to uplift and in-spire and use entertainment as a way to do that. So anything I’m doing, whether it’s writing a book, or pro-ducing a movie, or speaking or preaching, it’s all with the same goal: How does the person that is engaging with me relative to what I’m doing in that moment - how can their life become potentially better

or how can I say something or do something that can inspire them?” There was a robust Q & A session after his message, led by Bishop Bronner. Later, those who stood in the long line for the book signing were greeted with hugs and pictures with the couple.

With over 100 million trail-

er views, “Breakthrough”, is expected to be the biggest faith based movie of 2019. Executive produced by DeVon Franklin, the movie is based on the true events of a teenag-er’s recovery from a deadly accident. The story is taken from the Christian novel, “The Impossible” by Joyce Smith. “Breakthrough” opened in the-aters on April 17th.

A my Sherald immediately rose to international prominence when the National Portrait Gallery unveiled her portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama in February 2018 to criti-

cal acclaim. “Amy Sherald”, the artist’s first major solo exhibition, features a selection of portraits that exemplify her signature style: sitters with fantastical grayscale skin who are painted against a mono-chromatic background and gaze directly at the viewer. Sherald is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, who took her painting classes at Spelman. Now thru May 18th Ms. Sherald will feature her art at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center, 350 Spelman Lane, Atlanta, GA 30314.
