Atattooisoneofthemostpermanentthingsyoucandotoyourbody.Forthatreason,Ihopepeoplegivealotofthoughttoanytattoothattheymightget.Thereareveryfewpeoplethatwanttobeintheir80’switha“TweetyBird”tattoo.Thereareonlytwowaystogetridofatattoo.Youcanhaveitremovedbylaser,oryoucanhaveitcoveredupwithanothertattoo.
IreadanarticlethisweekaboutSouthsideTattooinBrooklynPark,MD.Theowner,DaveCutlip,hasofferedfreetattoocoverupsforanyonewithracistorgangtattoos.Someofthesecoverupscanrequireextensiveworkthatwouldordinarilycostover$500.Someofhisclientswouldnotbeabletoaffordthecoverups,otherwise.Cutlipstartedthisbecausesometimespeoplemakebadchoicesandsometimespeoplechange.Everyonemakesmistakesanddeservesasecondchance.
AsweheadintoLentandtowardsEaster,itisimportanttorememberthatweallmakemistakes,weallsin,weallfallshortofGod’simageforus.Justlikeatattoo,sinmarksus.Unlikeatattoo,laserscannotremovesin,anditcannotbecoveredup.Infact,oncewearemarkedbysin,thereisnowaythatwecanremoveit.
InChrist,weseeGod’sloveandGod’sgracemadehuman.DuringLent,wetravelwithhimtoJerusalem.OnGoodFriday,heisputontrialandhungonacrosstodie.Hedoesthisforus.Hedoesthisnotsothatoursiniscoveredup,butsothatoursiniscompletelyremoved.OnEastermorning,thetombisempty.Christhasconqueredsinonourbehalf!Wewillshareinhisdeath,butwewillalsoshareinhisresurrectionandlifeeternal!Sinnolongerhasapermanentholdonus.
OneofthepeoplewhohadatattoocoveredupatSouthsideTattootalkedabouthowitwouldgivehimanewlife.Hisvisibletattoowaskeepinghimfromgettingjobsorgettingpromotions.InChrist,wearegivennewlife.InChrist,weareanewcreation!Theoldhaspassedawayandeverythinghasbecomenew!Thisistrueyearround,butduringLent,werememberhowdependentweareonGodforlifeandfornewlife.OnGoodFriday,werememberChrist’ssacrificeforus.OnEastermorning,wecelebratethatChristhasclaimedvictoryoversinanddeath!InChrist,weareforgivenandoursiniswipedclean!Alleluia!Amen!

BoardCornerItisimportanttotheBoardthatourcongregationiskeptinformedondiscussionsthataretakingplaceanddecisionsthatarebeingmadeforthegoodoftheUnitedParish.MinutesofBoardmeetings,alongwithagendas,monthlyfinancialstatements,andthepastor’sreport,arekeptinabinderinthechurchlibrary.
Inthepastfewmonths,theBoardhasbeenatworkinseveraldifferentareasincluding:
• TheBoardelecteditsofficersforthe2017calendaryear:SharonDoughtyasSecretary/Clerk,RoyEadesasTreasurer,andGeneBarbatoasViceModerator.
• TheBoard,alongwithcommitteechairs,participatedintheAnnualLeadershipRetreat/TrainingonJanuary28,2017.Thecurrentcommitteestructurewasdiscussed.Committeesarebeingencouragedtoincreasetheircommitteesbyatleastonethisyear.
• TheBoardapprovedchangingthenameoftheMinistrySupportCommitteetoStewardshipandFinancewithGeneBarbatoasChair.Propertymanagementandmaintenancewillbeateamwithinthiscommittee.
• CommitteeLiaisonsfor2017are:Children,Youth,andFamily–SueKennedy;ChristianSpiritualFormation–CathieLambert;Communication–ChrisDeacon;MembershipandFellowship–TerryDrown;MissionandService–NancySnyder;andStewardshipandFinance–GeneBarbato.
• The2017UPBBudgetwasapprovedbytheBoardandwillbesubmittedtothecongregationforapprovalattherescheduledAnnualMeetingonMarch12.
• ApprovedTerryDrownandNancySnyderasBoardmembersforthe2018NominatingCommittee.
• TheBoardconductedtheAnnualPastorEvaluationinDecember.
• TheBoardbeganreadinganddiscussingSailboatChurchbyJoanS.Gray.
• TheBoardcontinuestoworkonandfinalizeaPersonnelPolicyManualforthechurch.

ThewintersessionofSEEDSusedLuketolearnmoreaboutJesus.TherewerediscussionsonwhatitwasliketoliveandgrowupduringJesus’time;howdifficultitmighthavebeenforthefishermentoleaveeverythingandfollowJesus;andhowwearecalledtowelcomeandhelpothersasweshareGod’slove.Craftsincludedbuilding
blocksoffaith,aboatwiththetwelvedisciples,welcomeposters,prayingthroughcolorsbanner,andacrossshowingthelifeofJesus.Makingourowndessertswasespeciallyfun!

ART&MUSICCAMP–2017Savethedate!TheUnitedParishofBowiewillholditsseventhannualArt&MusicCamp-July24-28,2017from9:00amtonoon.ThethemethisyearisMakerFunFactory:CreatedbyGod–BuiltforaPurpose.Thedailythemes–GodMadeyou,Godisforyou,Godisalwayswithyou,Godwillalwaysloveyou,andGodmadeyouforareason–willbereinforcedasourcampersrotatethroughthedifferentstationsofart,music,

MissionandServiceCommitteeWarmNightsWarmNightsatVillageBaptistwilltakeplaceonMarch18that6pm.Thecongregationwillhelpserveandalsoprovidebeefstew,salad,breadordesserttofamiliesthatareintheP.G.County’sHypothermiaProgram.
BowieFoodPantrySuperBowlContestwasahugesuccesswithPatriotsfansbringingin61cansandFalconsfansbringingin59.PastorChrisandhiswife,Heather,matchedthewinningcount.Atotalof181cansweretakentotheBowieFoodPantryforawelcomeddonation.
PleaseremembertobringinriceforthericeshelfaswecontinuetosupportBowieFoodPantrymonthly.
FamilyCrisisCenterHomeCookedMealsThethirdSundayofeachmonththecongregationcontinuestoprovidehomecookedmealstotheFamilyCrisisCenter,asafehomeforvictimsofabuse.Theshelterdirectorismostthankfulforoureffortsanddeliciousmeals.Itisverymuchappreciatedalsobythesinglemothersandtheirchildren.
EasterBasketsWewillagainbetakingthemtotheFamilyCrisisCenterforthechildrentoenjoy.Pleasebringingoodiesi.e.,pencils,games,smallballs,crayons,smallcoloringbooks,etc.TheywillbedeliveredonApril16th.
