THE ZETA RHOLLOUT…W I TH A S IGMA NUANCE
The BeefRoast Is Dead. Long Live the BeefRoast!
While lengthier than usual, this Rhollout focuses on three simple topics: the “new” BeefRoast; ways to donate your time and/or treasure to
help both the active and alumni chapters; and a look back at some throwback issues of the Rhollout as we celebrate the fortieth (yes, 40th!)
anniversary of the very first Rhollout. Throughout this issue we touch on a number of ways to get involved and reconnect with other
Brothers, so please enjoy this issue and consider participating in one (or many) of these ways to get involved.
Fraternally,
Tom Keebler (F80), Editor
President’s Message
“You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” - Bob Dylan
Brothers,
As discussed after our BeefRoast XXXVIII and in the fall edition of The Rhollout, change is coming to our annual BeefRoast reunion. Thanks
to all the brothers who responded to our online survey. Your responses were critical in helping your Board and Officers reach the
conclusion to take the BeefRoast XXXIX show on the road to Camp Kweebec. Thanks especially to Board members Mike Caputo and Pat
Higgins and Events Officer Gerry Timothy for identifying this option and organizing the effort this off-campus venue will entail. Elsewhere
in this edition, they will tell you more about how this site will allow us to restore most of the features we enjoyed at BeefRoast over the
years. They ask for your help in making this event a success. Come join us. Call and invite a brother you haven’t seen in a while. Bring
your family. Let’s all do our part to continue this “Tradition Like No Other”.
This July the terms of office of all current Board members and Officers will end. Thanks to all of the Brothers who have contributed to the
leadership and ongoing development of our Association over the past two years. Though some are willing to serve in their office again, we
need some new representation every two years to keep our association vital. To that end, I take this opportunity to inform you that I do not
intend to seek re-election to the office of President. It has been my honor to serve in this capacity during the past four years. I am grateful
for the trust that you placed in me. I will remain active in my support of our association and its next President in an informal capacity of
immediate past President. See more information on the board structure and offices later in this edition. Please - step up, step forward and
respond to this call to serve your Brothers.
We are proud to have the best fraternity on campus and the best fraternity alumni association at Villanova. We can be proud of our
accomplishments, and be excited about the future of our association, especially in light of the current success of the Kappa Zeta chapter.
Most of all, we can be proud of our special bonds of brotherhood and to be members of The Legion of Honor.
In Truth, Love and Honor,
John Thacker

From the Active Chapter
Brothers,
My name is Joshua Beltran and I am the Lieutenant Commander of the Kappa Zeta Sigma Nu Chapter. I am also an Executive Director
of NOVAdance. NOVAdance is a yearlong fundraising campaign that concludes in the spring with a dance marathon. It raises money
for the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, which benefits children afflicted with pediatric cancer. Last year we created the event
and worked closely with the B+ Foundation to raise over $66,000 and had over 300 attendees come to the event. This year, we plan
to exceed those numbers. I am reaching out to you to let you know that you can help!
Last year, Sigma Nu spearheaded the founding of NOVAdance. Through hard work, dedication, and determination, we were able to
make the event a huge success. This organization has become close to the hearts of our chapter, with a large majority of members
being involved. We work hard to organize fundraisers, raise money, and host events for the kids fighting cancer to attend. Our goal
this year is to raise as much money as possible. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Fraternally,
Joshua Beltran, NOVAdance Executive Director, [email protected]
(Note: The NOVAdance takes place on MARCH 21st so please send in your donation now!)
From the Alumni Social Chairman All,
The calendar has rolled to March so I know it's time for Keebler to ask me repeatedly for the spring social announcements for the
Rhollout, so I figured that I would try to actually get my stuff to him on time this quarter. Also since it’s March, it is time to start
thinking of the Big East and NCAA Tournaments, especially since during our last conference call Tony Coyer reminded the Board at
least five times that 2015 is the 30th anniversary of the magical 1985 championship run, and we all hope for repeat this year by a
very strong Nova team.
As for basketball season, I apologize that we weren't able to organize an active/alumni tailgate for a Wells Fargo game, but
unfortunately the schedules for active and alumni attendance at games didn't quite line up this year. We will definitely try to pull off
a tailgate event again in the future. In the meantime, please let others know if anyone of us are heading out to a bar to watch a
game, so others can join in as Tourney season approaches.
As for moving further into the spring beyond B-Ball, I am excited to repeat the announcement from my previous email for BeefRoast
XXXIX to be held at Camp Kweebec on Memorial Day weekend. As of the time this article, the Board is still working on the fina l
details for the contract with the site, so unfortunately the pricing options are still pending. We will share that information as soon as
we have it, and we expect that brothers will have at least two months to register and pay prior to the event. As for additional
information, I've asked Tom to repeat some of the information from my first email about the camp below, as well as embed the
PowerPoint presentation with the photos of the site for those who may have missed it.
I am truly excited for the opportunity for this new BeefRoast location and return to our traditional two day event. I will miss having
BeefRoast on campus, but I think the format and the two days that we have gotten to spend together every spring in the past is
more important to the strength of our fraternity than holding the event on campus every year. I am looking forward to having our
BeefRoast in our format with time to enjoy our Brothers instead of being on someone else's time table for our event since it has felt
to me that we have been cramming all of BeefRoast into an afternoon on campus rather than enjoying an event that truly sets our
group apart from others on campus. I hope many others will share this point of view and the BeefRoast will continue to grow into an
event that helps us tie younger actives and alumni together for many years to come.

See you at BeefRoast!
From the Alumni Social Chairman (cont’d)
As for staying connected with campus, the Board recognized the strong sentiment among many to keep our reunion on a campus, but
unfortunately we were forced with a little bit of an "either or" decision since Villanova informed us that campus would be closed
Memorial Day weekend. As a result, however, the Board is currently working the Villanova Alumni Office to add a private Sigma
Nu/Zeta Rho happy hour event on the Friday night of Reunion weekend this year on June 5th. Additional details will be available on
this event once they have been confirmed.
That is enough announcing for this update. For summer planning, I would like to try for a Brotherhood night out at the Phillies as I
attempted last year. Since the Survey Monkey tool worked well for the BeefRoast survey, I may try to use it again to get consensus on
a date for the June to August time frame and be a little bit better organized so stay tuned.
As always, please feel free to contact me directly with any questions, comments, suggestions, or volunteering to help. Email is
[email protected] and phone is 215-840-6680.
Yours with liberty and fraternity for all,
Gerry "Hey Tits" Timothy, KZ164

Director and Officer Election Coming this July!
The Sigma Nu/Zeta Rho Alumni Association will hold its biennial election of all officers and directors by online electronic ballot this July.
Please consider running for one of the positions.
There are six elected directors: One representing the 1960s era (founding) brothers, one representing each of the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s,
2000s, and 2010s eras. There are seven elected officers: the President (Worthy Commander) who is also a Director, the Secretary (Worthy
Recorder), Treasurer (Worthy Treasurer), Communications officer (Worthy Reporter), Events officer, Historian and KZ Liaison officer.
As you’ve already read, John Thacker will not be standing for reelection as President (though he will be available to assist his successor as
immediate past President). Don’t be shy! Nominations will be accepted for all positions. Multiple candidate ballots are a s ign of a vibrant
association.
To nominate a brother for any position, or to throw your own hat in the ring, send an email with the name of the brother and the position
to PJ Ryan at [email protected]. If nominating a Brother, include his email so that his acceptance can be confirmed. If you are
unsure of the responsibilities of any position, email PJ or John Thacker at [email protected] for more information.
The ballot will be transmitted via email notice to all registered members by July 1st. The ballot will remain open the entire month of July,
with ballots tabulated and new directors and officers announced on July 31st. New directors and officers will immediately assume their
positions effective August 1st.

Ludwig Scholarship Update
The Sigma Nu/Zeta Rho Alumni Association is the proud sponsor of the Oliver Ludwig Sciences at Villanova Scholarship. This
scholarship remains unique at Villanova, as it is Villanova’s only fraternity alumni association-sponsored endowed scholarship.
During Villanova’s fiscal year 2014, the fund received over $11,000 in donations, principally from members of our association. A t
May 31, 2014, the fund had a total endowed value of $183,508. At this level, the fund will award a $9,000 annual scholarship to a
student majoring in the sciences in Villanova’s College of Arts & Sciences.
Please continue your generous support of this scholarship, in perpetual gratitude and admiration for our dearly departed Doc. And
please enjoy this letter of thanks from Megan Hazel, this year’s recipient

Kappa Zeta Scholarship Update
The Sigma Nu/Zeta Rho Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee in December 2014 awarded this year's scholarship to two very
deserving brothers. Michael Muni (below left) is a senior and was the Lieutenant Commander. Aditya (Adi) Alphonso (below right) is a
junior, who was the risk management chair and recently elected the Chaplain. Both brothers are very active in the Chapter and very
dedicated to the Chapter. As a result of their outstanding accomplishments and personal interviews, Brother Muni received a $1,000
award and Brother Alphonso a $1,700 award. The award was based upon academic standing, fraternal involvement, university
involvement, personal interview and written application. Both Michael and Adi demonstrated excellent qualities that define a Brother
of Sigma Nu.
The alumni association has been disbursing similar scholarship awards since spring of 1987 and plans to award the next scholarship
for the fall of 2015. To help the actives with recruiting during the Spring Rush, we had a half page advertisement congratulating
Michael and Adi for receiving the award published in the Villanovan's first issue for the spring semester.
The committee appreciates any donations previously given by all fraternity brothers. If any brother would like to contribute to the
fund, please forward your donation to the Sigma Nu National Headquarters and specifically designate the funds to the Kappa Zeta
Chapter. The scholarship fund is held in a separate account at Sigma Nu National Headquarters for only our chapter and is tax
deductible.
National's requirement is to disburse no more than 5% of the total amount being held in our scholarship account, so the more you
give allows us to increase the disbursement funds for future active brothers. Especially with the active fraternity growing in very large
numbers, an increased contribution would help allow additional active brothers to receive the scholarship reward in the future.
Current members in the scholarship committee are Ray Custer, Tom Keebler, Pat Higgins, Anthony Albanese and Chairman Michael
Simone. For any additional information about the scholarships, please contact Michael Simone at [email protected].

Chapter Advisor Mike Winters sends along: “Recently a new challenge has come out similar to the Ice Bucket Challenge called the “Egg
Crack Challenge”. This challenge was started by Villanova University students. If you watch the video in the link below, you will see a
large group of guys doing the challenge at night: they are our SPRING 2014 CANDIDATE CLASS whose video made it onto the local
news! See the video here: http://www.myfoxphilly.com/clip/11185400/egg-crack-challenge-started-by-villanova-students
John Thacker writes: “Last November Kyle Foley, another friend and I ran in the
inaugural Across the Bay 10-K race in Maryland. The race started on the Annapolis
side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and ended on Maryland’s eastern shore on Kent
Island. Most of the race was across the nearly 5 mile span of the bridge. Great views,
loads of fun and no injuries! Looking ahead to this May, Kimberly and I will be back
to VU for our son, Noah’s, graduation. Another four years that just flew by, but at
least the tuition checks are behind us. Rhollout readers may recognize the name
Noah Thacker as a frequent contributor to articles on VUHoops.com. Go Cats!”

(and friend) at the race after-party.
Paul Casazza tells us: “I bumped into Bob ‘The Magician’ McEntee on Valentine’s Day. Bob was the featured entertainment for the
veterans that live at the Northport VA complex on Long Island. I was there with my American Legion Post. Bob did a great job
brightening the day of the veterans with his humor and magic!...Paul “Fudge” Forget lets us know that he recently started dialysis
treatment. Our best wishes go out to him…Will Bridges brings us up to date with, “Bought a Condo in Virginia Beach in May 2013. Got
Married to Brittany Ann Schuldt on 28 December 2013. Adopted two puppies and I am about to go to Department Head School in
Newport, RI at the end of the summer in 2015. I'll be on a ship for the next 3 years. I had the pleasure of spending New Years with
Matt Bean and Mike Moffit in Philadelphia at the Hyatt…Tom Luciano lets us know that “I am currently a law man (Law Secretary) for
two judges in the New York State Unified Court System. One judge is a New York State Supreme Court Justice and the other is a Family
Court Judge. It is a lot of work especially when we are on trial as I have to write the decision, but overall a rewarding post. I have a
seventeen year old son who is a junior at Chaminade High School. He is a big Wildcat fan and may attend Villanova in the fall of 2016?
My wife, Beth, has not killed me yet, so at least I’ve got that going for me. As ever, Tom Luciano”…Zenon Markewycz tells us: “After 7
years at Skyline Steel I finally called it quits. I am started a new job as a Geotechnical Engineer at Mueser Rutledge Consulting
Engineers in NYC in September.”
Lou Mongello passes along on a both personal and professional fronts, “Hey Brothers! Here is an update on what I've been up to lately:
Lou Mongello is a widely recognized Walt Disney World author, expert, host, podcaster, speaker and entrepreneur. He is the
host/producer of WDW Radio (http://WDWRadio.com), which has been named Best Travel Podcast for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010,
2011, 2012 and 2013, the author of the Walt Disney World Trivia Books, "102 Ways to Save Money For and At Walt Disney World," and
the author/narrator of Audio Tours of Walt Disney World. Lou is the founder of the Dream Team Project
(http://DreamTeamProject.org), which sends children with life-threatening illnesses to Disney World. Lou also makes regular TV
appearances and is a featured speaker who shares the magic of Disney and/or the power of social media. Lou was a successful lawyer
and owner of an IT consulting company in New Jersey, before leaving them behind to pursue his passion and share it with others. He is
now an internationally-recognized expert on Disney, and is a featured speaker who shares with businesses, associations and schools
the magic of Disney and/or the power of new and social media, podcasting, entrepreneurship, and building your business and
brand. Lou also shares some “Disney magic” into schools by bringing Disney into the classroom with engaging, thought-provoking,
and entertaining assembly programs. Lou is also a youth motivational speaker who presents on a variety of topics designed show
students how to create an exciting future by following their dreams and passions. He has appeared on dozens of international radio
and TV interviews as a Disney expert. He has written for and been quoted in numerous books, magazines and newspapers. For more information, visit http://LouMongello.com “

The Rhollout's 40th Anniversary
Back on May 9, 1975, the inaugural issue of The Zeta Rhollout was mailed to about 100 Brothers via the miracle of the mimeograph
machine (purple ink and all). As Corresponding Secretary and initial Editor of this publication, I had no idea how much a mainstay of
fraternal communication it would become. Its appearance took quantum leaps with the advent of word processing and laser printers,
and in recent years, the Adobe / .pdf file. Its content, as always, remains informative and entertaining.
Back in the day, my immediate successors as Corresponding Secretary for Zeta Rho were Steve Gibbons (S75), and Bill Hull (S76), who
pumped life into many early issues of the Rhollout as its de facto Editors In Chief. Thereafter, from 1979 onward, no one officer
appeared to be "in charge", but among the countless contributors, as usual, the real "glue" to it all remained Doc Ludwig (S75) who
personally compiled, printed, and mailed everything (as official Chem Dept. business) since October, 1982. He even coined a new
name, The ZETA RHOllout...with a SIGMA NUance for the May / Beef Roast mailing in 1983. For Doc's final issue, June 2010, he leads
in with a timely reflection on 34 years of BeefRoasts past, and the pseudo 35th held a couple weeks earlier (see re-print elsewhere in
this issue).
Finally, I want to extend a big "atta-boy" shout out to Tom Keebler (F80) for the tremendous job he has done as Editor and Publisher
of the Rhollout since Doc's untimely passing in July 2010. Tom has expanded the content to include many more photos and colorful
graphics to go along with the usual articles and updates from Brothers everywhere. Please continue to give him your support and
cooperation in his important service to us all.
Whether going postal or via email, I am very proud to see The ZETA RHOllout...with a SIGMA NUance move ahead into
its 5th decade. I hope you'll enjoy the following vintage excerpts from the archives...
Fraternally,
Tony Coyer, ZP/S74 SN/S84 (KZ64)
