Each of these children was honored as an Any Baby Can “Doll” — a designation that brought attention to the courage and will of the children and their families, and to the plight of all children who face distressing, often life- threatening challenges. After creating life-like dolls for 25 years … we’re now celebrating our honorees in a new way. This year, at our Adopt a “Doll” Luncheon on Wednesday, May 21, we will present limited- edition, signed prints of an original painting by renowned artist Stuart A. Seal to all who “adopt” our 2014 Doll, Rosie. Stuart has captured Rosie’s unquenchable spunk, charm and miraculous life in a beauti- ful pastel portrait. Prints measuring 9” x 12” in an archival mat and exquisite frame will be our gift to all who “adopt” Rosie. Stuart said, “When people see Rosie’s portrait, I want them to connect with her the way all do who are lucky enough to meet her.” Many of our friends and supporters display the beautiful, original dolls that were created in the image of the children we have honored annually. Now they will have a beautiful portrait to hang in a place of honor. It is a joy to present these children to you and to feel the love in your hearts when you respond with your gifts to help Any Baby Can lessen the burden for families affected by a child’s chronic illness, disability or develop- mental delay. Thank you to all who have made the Doll events possible. Thank you for making the dolls, sewing their clothes, volunteering on the luncheon committees, offering the venue, preparing the luncheons, purchasing tickets and sponsoring the event. You are our community partners and we love you, each and every one. We hope you’ll join us this year to celebrate Rosie, a medical miracle who was born prematurely at just 1 lb, 4 oz. Come meet this bubbly, bright, feminine little darling who is the light of her parents’ eyes. ! Leslie Bohl, News4 WOAI anchor and Rosie, our Adopt a Doll, are a mutual admiration society.

Angels Indeed

Over the past 25 years, our Adopt a Doll Luncheon has celebrated 25 very special children who were enduring arduous physical and mental debilitation, multiple surgeries, rare congenital disorders and other heart-wrenching health challenges.

This year, at our Adopt a “Doll” Luncheon on Wednesday, May 21, we will present limited-edition, signed prints of an original painting by renowned artist Stuart A. Seal to all who “adopt” our 2014 Doll, Rosie.

Stuart has captured Rosie’s unquenchable spunk, charm and miraculous life in a beauti-ful pastel portrait. Prints measuring 9” x 12” in an archival mat and exquisite frame will be our gift to all who “adopt” Rosie. Stuart said,

“When people see Rosie’s portrait, I want them to connect with her the way all do who are lucky enough to meet her.”

Many of our friends and supporters display the beautiful, original dolls that were created in the image of the children we have honored annually. Now they will have a beautiful portrait to hang in a place of honor.

It is a joy to present these children to you and to feel the love in your hearts when you respond with your gifts to help Any Baby Can lessen the burden for families affected by a child’s chronic illness, disability or develop-mental delay.

Thank you to all who have made the Doll events possible. Thank you for making the dolls, sewing their clothes, volunteering on the luncheon committees, offering the venue, preparing the luncheons,

purchasing tickets and sponsoring the event. You are our community partners and we love you, each and every one.

We hope you’ll join us this year to celebrate Rosie, a medical miracle who was born prematurely at just 1 lb, 4 oz. Come meet this bubbly, bright, feminine little darling who is the light of her parents’ eyes.

On May 6, from midnight to midnight, Any Baby Can is one of hundreds of local nonprofits who will benefit from The Big Give S.A. — a 24-hour online giving event that invites donors to invest strategically in San Antonio nonprofits, drive our community forward through collective impact and leverage giving with matching funds and prize incentives. We’re excited to be a part of this community-wide event and we encourage everyone who loves us to log on with your phone, tablet or computer to www.thebiggivesa.org and go to Any Baby Can. Minimum donation is $10 and with your help, this could be a very big day for the children and families we serve!.

We’d like to clone Jim Hughes. He’s got a super big heart, generous spirit and he loves giving money to non-profits that touch his soul. Lucky for us, he loves Any Baby Can. We’re connected in a way because the company Jim owns, Ageless Living Home Health, serves many of the children we serve. They go into children’s homes, childcare settings … wherever a child in need happens to be … and provide speech, occupational and physical therapies and behavioral health services to children with special needs. Jim carefully selected the 50 employees who work for him, seeking like-minded folks who believe in giving and service.

Jim and Ageless Living Home Health help Any Baby Can in many ways and we are ever so grateful. Their generous monetary gifts help our children. Their sponsorship of a documentary celebrating the 10th Annual Walk for Autism will long be used to educate, elevate and celebrate families facing autism. And their volunteer efforts infuse us with their happy mojo. “My company is a for-profit business but my concern is not making money to keep — it is making money to give away. I believe in helping others, in pay-ing it forward,” Jim says.

… can find comfort in community. Any Baby Can hosts a Grandparent Support Group on second Tuesdays at 6 p.m. with a light meal, conversation and healing. Participants have lost a beloved grandchild and this is a safe place to share their stories, give and receive comfort and honor the child they mourn. In releasing their emotions, they embark on a path of healing that also extends to their grieving families. If you are a grandparent who has suffered a devastating loss, call Katherine Ratcliff at 210-227-0170 for more information. “These are phenomenal individuals who’ve made a remarkable first step toward healing by coming to our group. They do not judge each other; they simply support with love and kindness, with the help of a wonderful facilitator,” Katherine says.”

The good guys at Alamo Kiwanis presented Kay Maynard with a $20,000 check to Any Baby Can. We love these generous folks, left to right, Paul Darr, Martin Tomerlin and Tom Baldwin, club president.

Close to 100 human angels graced our annual Angel Society Breakfast in March, raising a record sum to support our mission. A match from the Carl C. Anderson & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation leveraged our Angels’ dollars. Donations of delicious breakfast fare by Whataburger and Corner Bakery further enhanced the success of this delightful morning. Hugs and thanks all around! Special thanks to our “Super” Angels — those who contribute $1,000 or more annually.

In 2013, Any Baby Can served over 10,000 individuals — bringing hope, comfort, guidance and material assistance to families with children who have special needs. BIG DATES, MUCHO FUN! AN OFFICIAL

FIESTA EVENT!When 10,000 folks gather at the AT&T Center on Saturday, April 12 sporting shorts, t-shirts and hats, they’ll be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Any Baby Can Walk for Autism. In one decade, we’ve raised awareness through education, helped heal pain, opened hearts and connected people in meaningful ways.

The Walk was the brainchild of three moms who have children with autism — Frances Ramirez, Elisa Luna and Elizabeth Garcia. Frances, who has been with Any Baby Can for 27 years, is now the Autism Services Program Specialist and she is delightfully mind-boggled by the Walk’s growth and success.

“That first year, I didn’t think anyone would show up, but we had 250 people and three agencies with information booths. This year, we expect 10,000 walkers/runners, a Star Wars presence, over 100 vendors, live bands, cheerleaders, dancing and … for the first time, we’re an official Fiesta® event!” Frances says. And be sure to watch the new documentary honoring the 10th Annual Walk for Autism, sponsored by our friends at Ageless Living Home Health.

Inclusion in the Fiesta® slate will further increase awareness of autism and the myriad of services Any Baby Can brings to children and their families in the San Antonio area. Autism affects approximately 1 in 50 children born each year.

Family and corporate teams and individuals of all ages will be on hand to make this anniversary celebration a spectacular Fiesta® athletic event and feel-good cause. You can register online at www.anybabycansa.org. Team members and captains pay $15 per person and individuals and late registrations pay $20. The fun starts at 8 a.m. and wraps up at noon.
