This workshop will cover basic concepts of reporting procedures in the child care

setting.

3 - Working with Mixed Ages (CU) 6-9pm Ste. 129 $25 N. Massey - This

workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and address the challenges of

working with mixed age groups of children. Strategies for meeting and under-

standing the needs of all individuals in the group will be offered.

10 -Admin. #3 Enrollment & Marketing (P) 6-9pm Ste. 112 $20 D. Martin This

workshop will cover basic concepts of enrollment and marketing in the child care

setting.

10– Anger Management (P) 6-9pm Ste. 129 $25 K. Thomas-This workshop is de-

signed to help participants determine what triggers anger and develop strategies

to keep those triggers from tipping us over the edge. This session will focus on the

communication process as a whole and how positive communication can be used in

managing anger.

11 - Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) Domain Training: Scientific

Thinking (Part I) (CD, CU, P, CO, SN) 6:15-9:15pm Wards Chapel Preschool $40

J.Lentz - Scientific thinking can be defined as learning how to learn. Caregivers

can show children how to learn and study the world around them. It can be used to

study anything from a leaf to the entire universe. This domain includes concepts in

physical, life and earth science. *Must take 4/6 & 4/18

12-Admin. #4 Materials & Equipment (CD,CU) 6-9pm Ste. 112 $20 D. Martin

This workshop will cover basic concepts of materials and equipment in the child

care setting.

12-Stuck Inside (CU) 6-9 pm Ste. 129 $25 B. Strama - This course is designed

to help participants to understand the importance of physical movement for young

children, to learn and share ideas for physical activities that can be done indoors

with little mess and to keep control of children during physical games and activities

inside.

14 - Pre-Service Mod #1-From Baby Steps to Bigger Steps: What Makes a

Child Grow (CD) 9am-1pm Ste 112 $35 K. Salako- Covers basic child development

concepts including stages of child growth and development, overview of the leading

child theorists and of learning differences. Register for all 6 modules at once and pay only $180 for the entire series.

14 - Pre-Service Mod #2-Planning for Success: Creating Opportunities to Grow

and Learn (CU) 1:30-5:30pm Ste 112 $35 K. Salako- This workshop will give partic-

ipants a better understanding of components of a family child care curriculum, how

to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum and how to plan and design a

family child care program.

14- Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-3pm Ste. 129 $30 D.

Martin - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR

regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care pro-

grams. Participants will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their

child care program; gain an understanding of disasters that are most likely to

occur in Maryland and know why child care programs should prepare for emergen-

cies and disasters. This workshop meets the 6-hour COMAR requirement effec-

tive July 1, 2010, for centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

of Child Care approved Medication Administration Training teaches all aspects

of giving medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This includes

liquids, pills, capsules, topicals, epi-pens and also general information on inhalers.

You will even learn how to properly wash your hands. *Please bring a lunch. *LIMIT 10* 17- Basic Sign Language (SN) 6:30-9:30pm Ste.112 $25 L. Harris - This workshop will help individuals in the use of basic sign language for immediate communication and/or the preparation for teaching children.

17– Creative Circle Time Activities (CU) 6-9pmSte. 129 $25 E.Chapman-

Ready to have some fun? Join us for circle time! This is a special time in every

program when you gather around with your children and share stories, songs,

games, finger plays and whatever fun activity that comes to mind.

ing mandates for suspected child abuse or neglect will also be discussed.

19 - Working with Difficult Parents (CO) 6-9pm Windsor Park

Children’s School $25 D.Martin - Every caregiver has to deal with a difficult

parent from time to time. Strategies will be shared to help manage parents who

are defensive, angry, bullying, blaming, complaining, or disagreeable.

(SN) 1:30-5:30pm Ste.129 $35 J. Chambers - This class will include basic infor-

mation surrounding inclusive child care settings, ADA requirements in health,

behavioral and developmental issues and concerns.

23– Playground Safety (HSN) 6:15-9:15pm Ste.129 $25 K.Thomas - Learn the

basics of creating and maintaining a safe playground/outdoor learning area for

young children in child care. Training is based on The Maryland State Depart-

ment of Education’s Playground and Wtare Safety Guidelines document from the

Division of Early Childhood Development/Office of Child Care.

24 - Moving from Here to There: Managing Transitions (CU) 6-9pm Ste.112

$25 J.Lentz - Wouldn’t it be nice if transitions could be mastered by a simple

wave of the wand? Come learn some new tricks and strategies for creating

smooth transitions in your program.

Participants will gain an understanding of asthma and allergies, common

symptoms and treatment goals associated with the care of children with

asthma and asthma in child care.

25- Get Credentialed...Get a Check! It’s That Easy! (P) 6-9pm Ste. 112

$25 K.Knox - This class provides information on the Maryland Child Care

Credential that recognizes child care providers who go beyond the require-

ments of State licensing and registration regulations. Come learn about the

6 levels and how to get a bonus for each!

26 – Dealing with Dracula in Child Care (CD) 6-9pm Ste 112 $25 B. Strama -

Biting can be one of the most challenging behaviors caregivers face. Work-

ing together, parents and educators can identify reasons for a child's biting

and respond accordingly. We will discuss strategies to teach children age-

appropriate ways to control themselves and take the proper measures to

prevent further incidents

26 - Avoiding Burnout (P) 6:30-9:30pm Ste. 129 $25 A.Arujo - Working with

young children can be a challenge. Have you ever felt like you’ve had enough

of the day to day stress that can weigh you down in child care? You’re not

alone; there are many people who feel the same way. There is help! In this

training, we will learn strategies for avoiding burnout in childcare and share

steps to being stress free.

28 – Pre-Service Mod #5 Keeping It Real! Professional Practices for a

Successful Program (P) 9am-1pm Suite 112 $35 D. Martin - This workshop

will give providers the opportunity to explore and understand the importance

of specific concepts and practices that may lay foundation for a successful

program including supervision, marketing, abuse and neglect, contracts,

appropriate guidance policies and procedures, record keeping and handbooks.

28 – Pre-Service Mod #6 Planting the Seed-Developing Connections with

the World Around Us (CO) 1:30-5:30pm Ste. 112 $35 D. Martin - This

workshop will provide an overview and focus of the importance of developing

and maintaining relationships with children’s families and the larger communi-

ty.

28- First Aid 8:30am-12:30pm Ste. 129 $30 Paramedical Personnel- This is

a nationally recognized program that meets the OSHA standard for first aid

training. Workshop includes: Good Samaritan, emergency response, triage,

patient exam, BSI, bleeding, shock, burns, strains, sprains, fractures, splint-

ing, spinal injury, medical emergency, asthma, diabetic, seizure, allergic

reaction, stroke, poisoning, plants, bites, stings, heat, cold, and specific body

injuries. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certification for First Aid

expires in two years.

28- CPR 1-5pm Ste. 129 $30 Paramedical Personnel- The American Heart

Association Pediatric CPR program which includes Child CPR, Infant CPR,

Child Choking, Infant Choking. This program also deals with safety issues like

home, car, and playground. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certifica-

tion for CPR expires in two years.

insure effective communication in childcare and preschool

settings. Participants will learn communication techniques

for relationship building with families, participate in inter-

active activities and practice writing and speaking purpose-

Each has a unique style of showing feelings and of respond-

ing to the world. This workshop will enable providers to

understand the temeperament traits and styles of infants

and toddlers, examine the influences of differences on

relationships, and explore strategies to support the tem-

peramental styles of each child in care.

2- Pre-Service Mod #1-From Baby Steps to Bigger Steps: What Makes a

Child Grow (CD) 9am-1pm Ste 112 $35 K. Salako- Covers basic child development

concepts including stages of child growth and development, overview of the leading

child theorists and of learning differences. Register for all 6 modules at once and pay only $180 for the entire series.

2 - Pre-Service Mod #2-Planning for Success: Creating Opportunities to Grow

and Learn (CU) 1:30-5:30pm Ste 112 $35 K. Salako- This workshop will give partic-

ipants a better understanding of components of a family child care curriculum,

how to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum and how to plan and design

a family child care program.

2- Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-3pm Ste. 129 $30 D.

Martin - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR

regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care pro-

grams. Participants will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their

child care program; gain an understanding of disasters that are most likely to

occur in Maryland and know why child care programs should prepare for emergen-

cies and disasters. This workshop meets the 6-hour COMAR requirement effec-

tive July 1, 2010, for centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

4- Administrative Course #2 Curriculum (CD, CU) 6:30-9:30 pm Ste. 112 $20

D. Brinkmeier- Meets OCC pre-service and continued training requirements for

Directors of child care centers, effective July 1, 2008. This workshop will cover

basic concepts of curriculum planning in the child care setting.

5- Read With Me (CU) 6-9pm Ste 112 $25 E. Chapman - There are many every-

day activities that can help you foster a child's literacy development. Literacy

involves listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The excitement of learning

to read and write should be as rewarding as a child’s first words and steps.

5 - 9 Hour Communication Series—Part 3 (P,CO) 6-9pm Ste.129 $0 J.Lentz -

Continuation of 5/22 & 5/29. Work toward speaking and writing clearly to insure

effective communication in childcare and preschool settings. Participants will

learn communication techniques for relationship building with families, participate

in interactive activities and practice writing and speaking purposefully with co-

workers, families, children and the public. *Must have attended 5/22 & 5/29 to

register.

6 - Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) Domain Training: Personal and Social

Development (Part 1) (CD, CU, P, CO, SN) 6:15-9:15pm Wards Chapel Preschool $40 J.Lentz - This

domain will identify factors that influence personal and social development in children. It explores

how a child interacts with the world and how personal and social interactions evolve through the

relationships established with their parents and caregivers.

workshop will cover basic concepts of enrollment and marketing in the child care setting.

7 – Understanding and Caring for Premature Infants (CD,SN) 6-9pm Ste 112 $25 B. Strama -

Learn to understand what classifies an infant as premature, as well as the health concerns associ-

ated with prematurity. Tips and techniques to help care for preemies are included as well. Inter-

mediate Level

7 - Conflict Resolution (P) 6-9pm Ste 129 $25 K. Thomas - Conflict is a normal part of children's

lives. However, when conflict is poorly managed it has a negative impact on children's relation-

ships, on their self-esteem and on their learning. This workshop provides strategies to use for

teaching children problem solving skills.

9 - Infant/Toddler SEFEL Pt.2 (CD,CU,CO) 9am-3pm Ste.112 $0 D.Ponn - This module is a

continuation of Part 1 and addresses strategies for developing routines and environments to

support infants and toddlers social emotional development *Must be taken with 5/19 & 6/16 for

Specific focus of this class is centered upon components of emergency preparedness, menu

9 - Pre-Service Mod #4 Making It Work for All-Exploring Special Needs (SN) 1:30-

5:30pm Ste. 129 $35 J. Chambers - This class will include basic information surrounding inclu-

sive child care settings, ADA requirements in health, behavioral and developmental issues and

concerns.

11 -Admin. #4 Materials & Equipment (CD,CU) 6:30-9:30pm Ste. 112 $20

D. Brinkemeier This workshop will cover basic concepts of materials and equipment in the child

care setting.

11 - Ants in Their Pants! (CU) 6-9pm Ste.129 $25 J.Lentz - Sunup to sundown, “extra-busy”

children have an endless supply of energy and remain on the move throughout the day. This

workshop offers tried and true techniques to help you provide the best support to active

learners.

12 - Potty Training Made Easy (CD) 6-9pm Ste. 112 $25 N. Massey - This class will teach

practical tips for dealing with the challenges of potty training. We will share strategies parents

and daycare providers need to make the transition from diapers to the toilet as easy and stress-

free as possible.

12 - Avoiding Burnout (P) 6:30-9:30pm Ste 129 $25 N.Massey - Working with young children

can be a challenge. Have you ever felt like you’ve had enough of the day to day stress that can

weigh you down in child care? You’re not alone; there are many people who feel the same way.

There is help! In this training, we will learn strategies for avoiding burnout in childcare and

share steps to being stress free.

13 - Administrative Course #5 Environments (CD,CU)

6:30-9:30pm Ste. 112 $20 D. Brinkemeier - This workshop will cover basic concepts of environ-

ments in the child care setting.

13 - “I Don’t Feel So Good!” - Common Childhood Illnesses (HSN) 6:30-9:30pm Ste. 129 $25

K. Trafton - The purpose of the class is to instruct childcare providers in recognizing the signs

of simple childhood illnesses and appropriate interventions. It will also aid in the education of

parents regarding the rules of the day care facility.

14 - MSDE Accreditation Orientation (P) 10am-12pm Ste.129 $10 - Are you a center director

interested in going through the MSDE accreditation process? Join us for an Orientation to

Accreditation. MSDE Accreditation is a voluntary, year long process of quality improvement and

documentation completed by child care centers in Maryland. Participants will receive a 2-hour certificate following the session. 14 - Preschool Discipline (CD) 6-9pm Ste.129 $25 B.Strama - It is always difficult to deal with a

child that is misbehaving, but some are more challenging than others. In this session, strategies

will be offered to deal with challenging behaviors.

behaviors most often serve to express some feeling, need, or meaning that they are unable to

communicate in a more appropriate manner. This suggests the need for identifying the meaning

and the skills that the child needs to communicate that meaning more effectively. This module

focuses on effective strategies for observing children and identifying the meaning of their

behavior as a means of identifying strategies to develop appropriate response plans. *Must be

understanding of the abilities, cultures, generations and differences of others helps to

develop effective working relationships. This class will focus on ways to integrate elements

that focus on educating staff and children about diversity.

19 - We're All Different! Learning to Teach Through Multiple Intelligences (CD) 6-9pm

Ste 129 $25 B. Strama - Knowing a child’s learning style will help you better plan for their

day. In this class we will look at learning styles and multiple intelligences. Ways to consider

and incorporate different learning styles including music, cooperative learning, art activities,

role play, multimedia, field trips, inner reflection and much more will be shared.

Beginnings is a resource tool developed by MSDE that is intended for use by anyone who

lives or works with infants or young children. We are pleased to offer this training to help

caregivers become familiar with the document and become proficient in its use. The Guide-

lines can be used as a reference guide, or as a resource for planning daily or weekly activi-

ties. Keep in mind that not all children develop at the same rate, so the age ranges should be

used as suggestions. Providers can and should plan activities that meet the needs of each

Workshop Registration Information Workshops are approved for training credit by the MSDE Office of Child Care Credentialing Branch

Registrations. ALL workshop participants must pre-register; meaning, participants must register AND PAY for workshops in advance. Registration is accepted by phone, mail, or in

person. The training line for phone-in registration is operational from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Visa or Mastercard required for all registrations done by phone. Mail

registration form to Child Care Links, Inc., 1101 North Point Boulevard, Suite 112, Baltimore, MD 21224 Attn: Registration Office. Child Care Links does not accept personal checks A

confirmation receipt will be mailed within 1-2 business days from the date of registration, except in the situation that registration is received less than 3 days prior to your scheduled

workshop.

Fees paid are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you miss a workshop, credit or transfer to another workshop may be given if Child Care Links is notified prior to the workshop. If after

hours, please leave a message on CCL’s answering service. No credit or refunds are issued for “no shows”. Call 410-288-5942 with any questions or concerns about our refund or credit

policies. Any credits issued are good for one year from date of issue.

Late arrivals. Workshops begin at the stated time. Our instructors reserve the right to refuse admittance to any workshop for any participant arriving 15 minutes or more past the

start of the workshop. Credit or transfer will be issued at the discretion of Child Care Links staff for any participant turned away from training for lateness.

Cancellation and change policy. Child Care Links reserves the right to change the location, class size, or trainer for any class as deemed necessary. Child Care Links also may need to

occasionally cancel a workshop due to a lack of enrollment; in this event, a CCL staff member will contact you at the phone number or address you provided upon registration. If we need

to cancel a workshop and you do not wish to be transferred to another training, you will be issued credit good for one year or refunded fees paid for the canceled workshop. If you are

phoning in your registration please verify that we have the correct contact information, including more than one telephone number where you can be reached.

Rude and/or disrespectful behavior during workshops will not be tolerated. Please remember to exercise good judgment and respect for both the trainer and other participants in

your session. It is okay to disagree with facts or opinions presented by the trainer or other participants but please remember to remain professional. Should you violate this policy, the

instructor may ask you to leave the workshop and you will not be re-admitted, nor will you receive a refund for the class.

Certificates. Core of Knowledge certificates will be issued at the conclusion of the training session for all participants who successfully complete all requirements set forth for the

course. There will be a $5 charge for replacement training certificates .

Child care is not provided during workshops. Workshops provided by Child Care Links are intended for adults only. Please make other arrangements for care of your children during

workshop hours.

Workshop locations. The majority of workshops are held at the CCL main office, 1101 North Point Boulevard, Suites 112 & 129. Should your workshop be held at an off-site location,

you will be notified upon or at registration of the address and directions.

Inclement Weather Policy. Please note that the training department of Child Care Links follows the Baltimore County Public School Systems inclement weather policy for closings and

delayed openings. If you are scheduled for a workshop and Baltimore County schools close for inclement weather, our workshop will be canceled. During the weekend our workshops will

be canceled if Baltimore County goes into Phase One of their snow emergency plan. If, for any reason, this changes, a CCL staff member will contact you. Attempts will be made to

reschedule any canceled workshop.
