newsletter for youth work

Hello!
Happy New Year to you all. I hope this newsletter finds well, particularly
after the extremely busy Christmas period.
Last term was an incredibly busy, and exciting term. As in previous
years the big highlight of the term was Hill End—more in that inside.
There was also a gig jointly organised with the Parish church, just the
start of an increase in ecumenical events—again more inside.
I also had 2 weeks paternity leave following the birth of Thomas who
arrived the Monday after Hill End finished, talk about well timed! A big
thank you to all those who covered the work during my time off.
Read on, and as always, let me know what you think!

SPRING TERM 2012
Hill End 2011
Last Term
A little bit on some of the more memorable events of last term:
Hill End—whilst Hill End this year was a slightly quieter affair that
doesn’t mean that we had no less fun! We spent the weekend
exploring the cross and it’s impact on our lives with fantastic talks,
group Bible studies & theological workshops. There was the usual
elements of fun with a Saturday fun-day complete with 60ft
inflatable assault course! The weekend was a great success &
thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Sounds of Salvation—through working with the Parish church
we organised a concert for the young people of Buckingham.
Sounds of Salvation are a Christian Ska band who have played at
the likes of Greenbelt and have a very unique sound. The gig was
a great success—if want you want to check the band out, you can
find them on Facebook.
Assemblies & RLS CU—schools work was a real blessing this
term. We gave assemblies to every year at the Royal Latin
(except upper sixth due to Remembrance Day) and the topics
they gave us were fantastic opportunities to share our faith, and
according to inside sources, very well received. Myself & Dave
Criddle from the Parish also took on responsibility for supporting
the CU. We are working with them to make them more integral,
visible and attractive to the school.

COMING UP...
Here is an overview of what is
coming up this term at Well
Street:
2nd Sunday This term well_street@six will be
joining with the Parish church
every 2nd Sunday of the month
(from February). Myself & Dave
Criddle thought this would be a
really good opportunity to do
some joint youth work. So, every
2nd Sunday we will be having a
joint event involving games,
food, discussion and more. More
details to follow soon.
Trip Out At the end of the term, near the
start of the Easter hols we will be
doing a trip out. Currently
gathering ideas from the youth
so more details to follow soon.
Hill End changes Unfortunately Hill End have
changed the way they charge
groups. As a result it is looking
increasing difficult to stay there
without raising our costs
exorbitantly. As a result we are in
the process of looking at new
venues, and also possibly
moving the date to early July—
this would open it up more to the
Year 7’s and also enable those
in upper sixth to help out as
leaders. We would appreciate your
views & thoughts on this. RLS CU Event We’re trying to open up CU to a
wider range of people in the RLS.
There are quite a few Christians in
the school who do not attend for
many reasons. We will be holding a
‘grill a Christian’ event towards the
end of term which we hope will raise
the profile of the CU and gain
interest and support from other
Christians in the school.
What are we learning? A brief paragraph on what groups are studying this term:
React are getting to know some of
the characters in the Bible.
Chill’n’Chat and React are both
exploring the fruits of the spirit. The
aim is to do more than just read, but
also act and get creative with what
we are studying.
Proteens are spending the term
studying the Lord’s prayer line by
line.
Housegroups are mostly exploring
topics with the aid of the book of
Proverbs. The older girls house
group are also running a prayer
evening.

Calendar Dates It can be tricky to try to keep track
of all the dates. To make life easier
there is a calendar on the website
which has all the youth events on.
