This year is already jumping off to a great start. N.C. AmveTs have been granted a new career center—one of six. We will
be the first one to open in North Carolina. This will be located in Albemarle, NC. December 7th will be the ribbon cutting. This will be to train veterans for new jobs by way of education, etc. This will build up their self-esteem and put them back into society. Any veteran is allowed to come; it doesn’t matter where you are from. You can use this facility. veterans who are interested in job search and advice or training, may go on line www.amvets.org or call 1-877-726-8387.
By this term’s December, we want every member to sign up at least one new member. Please do more if you can. I encourage every post commander to look around your post dur-ing the next meeting. see who is missing and invite them to come back and join AmveTs.
We are trying to make a difference. Lets fill up our posts with new members and members who have dropped out. Go out to your nearest Na-tional Guard and invite them to come and join our great organization.
Be sure all post commanders get your community service reports in every month. Also make it a priority that all of your officers attend the DeC meetings. I would hate to see your posts lose your charters. I am looking forward to seeing you soon. God speed is with you, and I’ll be praying for you.
Our hearts go out to Bob Fuller’s family. He was a great leader and a very big asset to North Carolina Department of AmveTs. As a PDC, he will be greatly missed. He passed away sat-urday, October 8, 2011. Please continue to pray for his family.

We had a very productive and profitable DeC meeting in statesville. Our first endeavor
at a “Quarter Auction” went very well. We appreciate all the participation of the AmveTs. I think everyone had a fun evening and I’m looking forward to hav-ing another one in the future.
As stated in the first article, we were approached to form two new Auxiliaries. I am happy to report that we did install an Auxiliary at Albemarle Post #910. We are very happy to have them on board and look forward to working with them. We are still in the process of checking into forming the second Auxiliary. Hopefully this will happen in the near future.
I’m looking forward to the next DeC meeting in Clemmons at which time we will be holding our annual Reverse Draw-ing. We always have a great turn-out for this and look forward to it again this year. Information will be sent to you as soon as all details are finalized.

Alyce answered the call to come to Fayetteville and help with ex-treme makeover on the Jubilee House.

There is no way we can ever properly thank members of the Us military for all that they have done. They are certainly not paid enough for their work and their great sacrifice. Iraq and Af-
ghanistan have been particularly tough and stressful for members of the military, their families and loved ones.
We have found over 200 stores and services doing their part to make life easier by offering discounts to active, reserve, and retired mem-bers of the Us military and their immediate family members. Please help spread the word via Facebook, Twitter and email to those you know in the military about this resource. If you have additional sug-gestions please comment below and they’ll be added on an ongoing basis. For veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan, please check out IAvA. members there are offered vouchers to many retail stores, such as JC Penney.
Two important caveats. First, some stores offer discounts only at the owner’s discretion and other discounts vary by state. second, many stores that give a military discount don’t advertise it. It is always worth asking a store whether they have one or not and to have your military ID on you.

Abacus Corporation was recently awarded the employer of the Year award from American veterans for its efforts in Henderson. Abacus has shown advancement and commitment in quality employment in North Carolina.
Local staffing Coordinator Jack Groves has been with Abacus since 2009 and has worked extensively with the employment security Commission to mine and place quality employees for their clients.
Regional vice-president Bill Lund and vice-president of Business Develop-ment michele massaro have been instrumental in creating the effective set up and support of Abacus’ efforts in this area.
Three employers throughout the United states are chosen each year for this coveted award.
Among the three given this year, two of the recipients were employers from North Carolina.

stanly County has been selected as one of six national sites to receive an Am-veTs Career Center grant. The “Center” will be the first, of what is hoped to be many, in North Carolina. In Ohio, where the program originated, there are
currently 61 centers.It will be headquartered on the main campus of Pfeiffer University in misenheimer,
North Carolina. The “Center” is a coalition of Albemarle AmveTs Post 910, Bank of stanly, Pfei-
ffer University, and the stanly County Chamber of Commerce to fill resource gaps by complimenting, enhancing, and supporting the county’s employment security Com-mission, veterans services Office, and other organizations. mike miller, president of Pfeiffer University, exclaimed “Pfeiffer University is proud to be associated with our stanly County AmveTs Career Center, and we look forward to working with our partners in making a difference for our veterans as they pursue employment and career opportunities.” Bill Lawhon, senior vice President for the Bank of stanly, echoed these same sentiments when he said, “We’re indeed fortunate to have stanly County as the site for the first North Carolina AmveTs Career Center. I can’t think of a better way for us to support our friends and neighbors who have sacrificed to protect our freedom.”

Last may, the Chamber of Commerce received an e-mail from, elsie Knoots, executive secretary for the AmveTs Department of North Carolina, announcing the grant. Tom Ramseur, asked Charles Cosgrove, the Chamber’s veterans services Representative, to inquire into the eligibility of the Chamber’s veterans Outreach Program for the endowment. It qualified. mr. Cosgrove moved forward with the grant ap-plication culminating with a memorandum of Understanding between AmveTs National Headquarters and Pfeiffer Uni-versity this past August.
AmveTs Career Centers were conceived nearly a decade ago in Ohio to fill resource gaps in helping veterans remain competitive in the job market. The concept came from the marine Corps fireman brigades of the Korean Conflict. These units were shifted from place to place to seal openings created by the enemy.
When Activision’s Call of Duty endowment, heard of Ohio’s successes they selected AmveTs National for a $100,000 grant to establish six new magnet Centers across the United states. North Carolina’s first “Center” will be at the state’s Piedmont crossroad on the main campus of Pfeiffer University. During his address at the annual state conference in salisbury, on Oc-tober 8th, the state Department Commander, Lacy shepherd, told the membership “I was elated to hear that North Carolina was selected as a grant recipient and particularly pleased to hear that Pfeiffer University would spearhead our state’s career centers.”
The “Centers” come in all sizes and shapes that offer free internet access, online courses, through mindLeaders, Inc., writing skill development, and networking based on individual needs and the economic environment. This ties in well with stanly County Chamber of Commerce veterans Outreach Pro-gram mission to broaden communication, enhance network-ing, build consensus, and establish partnerships among indi-viduals, agencies, and organizations that support those that are and have served in our military. It also parallels the mission and goals of Pfeiffer University. Creating a win/win situation for all concerned.

The Memorial
The vietnam veterans memorial stands as a symbol of America’s honor and rec-ognition of the men and women who served and sacrificed their lives in the vietnam War. Inscribed on the black granite walls are the names of more than
58,000 men and women who gave their lives or remain missing. Yet the memorial itself is dedicated to honor the “courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty and country” of all who answered the call to serve during the longest war in U.s. history.
The vietnam veteran’s memorial Fund, Inc. is the 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 1980 to fund and build the vietnam veterans memorial in Washington, D.C. Incorporated on April 27, 1979 by a group of veterans led by Jan C. scruggs, who was wounded and decorated for service in vietnam, the organiza-tion sought a tangible symbol of recognition from the American people for those who served in the war.
By separating the issue of individuals serving in the military during the vietnam era and U.s. policy carried out there, vvmF hoped to begin a process of national reconciliation. Two members of the U.s. senate, Charles mathias (R-md.) and John Warner (R-va.), took the lead in Congress to enact legislation providing three acres in the northwest corner of the National mall as a site for the memorial. It was dedicated on Nov. 13, 1982.
The Wallsince its dedication, The Wall has transcended the vi-
sion of its founders to become much more than just another memorial in a city filled with memorials.

ABOUT VVMFestablished in 1979, the vietnam veterans memorial Fund is dedicated to
preserving the legacy of the vietnam veterans memorial in Washington, D.C., promoting healing and educating about the impact of the vietnam War. Autho-
rized by Congress, its most recent initiative is building the education Center at The Wall, an underground fa-cility near the memorial that will help visitors discover the stories of those named on The Wall and celebrate the values embodied by all service members who served
in all of America’s wars. Other memorial Fund initiatives include educational programs for stu-dents and teachers, a traveling Wall replica that honors our nation’s veterans and six events held each year at The Wall to honor and remember those we lost during the vietnam War. In 1982 the American people helped The vietnam veterans memorial fund complete an impossible mission to heal a nation and bring comfort and solace to a generation of veterans. Today the vietnam veterans memorial Fund is working to complete this mission by building The education Center - and once again we need your help.
The Wall is a revered monument built for the survivors, families, and for a conflicted nation. The education Center is being built to educate our children and grandchildren about the viet-nam War. It will bring The Wall to life for all future generations - telling the story of the viet-nam War by telling the personal stories of those whose names appear in it.

Family Night
Every July our Post hosts Family Night instead of our regular meeting. These two enterprising your ladies, Savannah Jones and Morgan Ridenhour set up a Lemonade Stand to help raise money for the Auxiliary project “School Supplies”. The girls raised $58.
